The Plant Cafe Organic

I like The Plant — it is healthy and fresh but I always am hungry after an hour (kinda like eating dim sum). Prices are decent for the area ($ 11 – 15 for a meal) and they are efficient but overall I usually only go here when a friend wants it.

Pretty lame experience. Ordered the grapefruit and avocado salad and had like a quarter of an avocado and 3 small grapefruit slices and just greens. Thats. it.
But at least I payed $ 13 for the privilege of getting basically nothing but greens. Do not eat here, I paid a lot, and got a little. Is that what you want?

Plant, I’m so mad at you. First you increased the price of my veggie burger and then when i bit into the burger the bun was hard and stale, and it tasted as if the burger was sitting there for awhile. An over 14 dollar burger should not taste like that. Totally not worth it, i’m never coming back.

Way too hectic during lunch! I love the Plant on the Embarcadero, but the experience in this dark, crowded FiDi location is just not appealing. They need a better system for people waiting for their food, and people waiting for a table, because it just gets ridiculously cramped with people standing all over the place… waiting for something.
Food-​wise, the Plant can be either great or just mediocre. Stick with their Plant burger if you want something filling, flavorful, and unique. The salads are pretty uninteresting, and the ginger quinoa bowl is overpriced for what you get (quinoa & veggies).
With the abundance of healthy lunch spots popping up in SF, the Plant isn’t quite as alluring as it used to be. The Embarcadero location is much more of an «experience».

The Plant Café has a variety of great healthy options that would entice even non-​vegetarians.
I ordered their Dino Kale salad (dino kale, arugula, red quinoa, cherry tomatoes, avocados, almonds and lemon cumin vinaigrette) to go, since this place is always packed during the work week lunch rush.
I loved the combination of ingredients; the dino kale was incredibly fresh and tender. Compared to other lunch places downtown, the prices here are quite high but the food definitely did not disappoint.

For our weekly catered work lunch, my office ordered from The Plant Café on Friday, January 8^th. It arrived around 12 noon.
*Cobb: romaine, cherry tomatoes, avocado, roasted chicken, turkey bacon, hard boiled egg, Point Reyes blue cheese, fresh herbs, champagne vinaigrette ($ 12.75)
We normally place our orders on Tuesday or Wednesday for a Friday lunch, so I normally get a salad cuz I’m feeling the healthier lunches early in the week. I was a little bummed by this as by Friday, I wanted something greasy and comforting. I found myself wishing I ordered the burger.
I was pleasantly surprised. The salad was delicious! I was starving and this completely hit the spot. (I almost forgot I wanted a burger.) The dressing was nice and light and no one ingredient overpowered the other. It was a good blend of flavors. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The blue cheese creamy. I loved the turkey bacon as it added a nice salty element without feeling too heavy. The only thing I didn’t care for was the hard boiled egg, but that’s because I don’t like them.
Great lunch option. If we ever order from them again though, I’m gonna go for the burger!

This is the stingiest Plant Café I’ve ever been to. I ordered my usual Dino Kale salad to go ($ 13 with no added toppings or protein), and when I opened the box later I was SHOCKED to see that the salad barely covered the bottom of the box. It didn’t even fill ¼ of the box. I could barely see the quinoa, there was barely any kale, and I only got about ¼ cup of avocado, and it had dark brown spots all over all of it. Yet, they gave me 1 extra container of dressing without me asking for it…2 containers of dressings for a tiny salad is not useful at all, you should really replace that dressing with more SALAD instead. I wish I took a picture but I was too annoyed to think about it. Never coming to this location again.

Pretty sad about how things are trending here. Everything I order gets removed from the menu or doubled in price. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is just a shame of a dish. I was expecting it to at least look like chicken, not mcchicken, especially for the price.
Love the Chromatic coffee but where did the bagels go? There is better salad all around the area. It’s just disappointing.

Let’s start with the meat (See what I did there?!) of things. If three stars is average, this was a two-​star experience.
I was a strict vegetarian for a decade. Albeit, I was a bad one, as I love fleshy goodness. My wife is still mostly vegetarian, with a slight pescatarian flair. As such, we’ve had a LOT of vegetarian food. Even though I eat meat, I still loves me a good veggie burger. I think well-​prepared food is always a joy, regardless of whether it walked or was planted. So when we saw they had their own in-​house veggie patty, we both happily went for it. She also ordered a freshly-​made juice.
For the price we paid, it was a disappointing experience. The «burger» patties were an interesting recipe. The beets were a nice touch, and it made the patties bright red which was aesthetically neat. The problem with the patties was the consistency and lack of apparent binders. They were little better then putting mashed potatoes on a bun. They just wouldn’t hold together as we ate them. If they could firm up the patties and give them the consistency of actual burgers, that would bump up the stars. Also, serving the juice over ice would have helped. We juice at home, so we know what parsley and kale juice taste like, and we think they taste better not at room temperature.
There was also my dessert. I picked up some jasmine rice with coconut milk and mango in their refrigeration case. Being from Seattle, I’ve had a LOT of Southeast Asian and Filipino food, and this dessert is (theoretically) among my favorites. This one was not my favorite. Firstly, I was perplexed at their choice of jasmine rice instead of a sweeter, more glutinous varietal. That made it a little grainy. The mango was also under ripe, and the refrigeration process dried everything out further. Having the ability to pour a little sweetened coconut milk over the top right before I ate it would have helped that a tad to bring everything back together (Hint, hint).
It wasn’t all bad. Their house-​made pickles were stellar. The side mixed-​green salad was a nice touch. They even had my favorite brand of kombucha. In truth, if my wife and I were in a pinch, and we wanted a healthy meal, we would probably go back, but they need to do some work to make some of the food more exciting.
That all being said, I’mma go eat a pig now. All of it.

Always a great place to get some healthy, organic food, plug in for some work with 5 tables having AC outlets, and free wifi. Their mini peanut butter choco cupcakes, fresh juices & smoothies and fish tacos ate my favorite.

I legit order from Plant Organic every single day for my work, and I have been an avid promoter of Plant. However, the past month has probably been the skimpiest service we have received.
This was my bacon and egg sandwich.
$ 7 for a sandwich that looks like this is just embarrassing.

It’s always difficult to find a good fish taco that isn’t deep fried and negates the whole idea of eating heathy. The Fish Taco Plate, pan seared fish (spice rubbed), black beans, cabbage slaw, radish, mango avocado salsa, chipotle crema, corn tortillas has the right combination and very tasty.
We also tried the Thai Green Curry (sautéed seasonal vegetables, coconut milk, lemon– grass, Kaffir lime, basil, mint, served over jasmine rice), not a bad interpretation of Thai food.

I’ll always remember my first visit to a plant café a few years ago. A group of friends and I ordered a burger but when it arrived, we were left wondering where the beef was? Of course, it was a vegetarian burger and we didn’t read the menu thoroughly enough to know this.
The plant is great place to eat if you don’t want to compromise your healthy diet and satisfy your taste buds. They have many different juice and smoothie choices and all relatively healthy choices. What I love about The Plant is that they are all organic and this is a huge plus in my book. After all, I want to live a long time for my family but I also want to eat well!
This location is very close to my part time gig which is fabulous because if I don’t bring my lunch, I can always stop by and will be able to pick up a healthy dish.
I’ve also stopped by for their breakfast choices and they have great, hearty dishes. I’ve tried their breakfast burritos as well as their egg breakfast dish and they’re all relatively good. It is a bit on the pricier side, but you, my friend are definitely worth it. I love their kale banana smoothies as well so if you’re looking to get your greens in, definitely try this out.
I’m usually pretty strapped for time during lunch so I just order online instead of having to wait in line during their lunch rush. It’s pricey but so worth it.

The Plant is one of the healthiest options in the Financial District that offers more than just salads. That’s probably why it fills up so quickly — I recommend going early or ordering online to go. I personally love the Plant burger even if it means being made fun of by coworkers for eating a burger made of nuts and beets. :) I’ve grown to love it more than regular beef burgers, believe it or not.
I would give this spot 5 stars except many of their items are pricey for lunch. Their Dino Kale salad for instance is tasty but $ 13+ and not that filling on its own…

Three friends made a plan to meet at this place for lunch. All coming from different points in the Financial District, this seemed like the perfect meeting place. All the appropriate things were checked online, location, hours, menu. Plans were made. At the appointed time though, none of us could find this restaurant. Is it at the California address or has it moved? We looked up the street, down the street, around the corner, asked people, checked online again and eventually gave up and went to New Tree. Very disappointing.

Food is amazing, lovely location and awesome service! A must when you’re in San Francisco!

And the Raw Lemon Cheesecake is out of this world!

Hit this place up before the lunch hour hits, unless you have an hour and a day to wait in line because it goes out the door. It’s that good!
I ordered the grapefruit + avocado salad with roasted chicken on the side. I consumed all the grapefruit before I ate that salad because it had an extra tartiness to it. I enjoyed the rest of my delicious arugula salad. MMMmm. Just when I thought I ate a lot halfway through, the second wind of hunger wafted through and I gorged the whole thing! I was pleasant.
My sister ordered the beet veggie burger and she too was very happy with her ordered. Also for all the coffee lovers out there, they serve Blue Bottle coffee. I had my nice glass of NOLA café to wash down my salad.
I’ll definitely be back for a fresh bite!!!

I have a confession to make: If I checked-​in every time I come here, it might start to get a little embarrassing.
The Plant menu features smoothies, juices, and a veggie burger in addition to the typical salads and sandwiches. I quickly found my go-​to salad here and I haven’t strayed much since. The ingredients are fresh and organic and you can clearly tell by the taste. If you’re craving a sandwich and love pesto, try the Roasted Chicken Pesto made with focaccia bread.
The space is airy and inviting and it’s easy to grab a table if you avoid peak lunch hours. While you may be paying a little bit more than other restaurants, you’re getting the healthiest — and tastiest — of ingredients.

This place is organic alright!
I hard ordered the Dino Kale salad and was super excited for it. It looked SO delicious. I took a bite and noticed the most colorful bug ever in my salad.
I promptly returned the salad, and the manager was extremely understanding which I appreciated. I know they’re very organic, but after seeing that bug, there was no way I could eat another salad for the day. I got refunded and got a smoothie instead which was quite delicious! Also had kale, and maybe that bug, but at least I couldn’t see him.
Maybe I’ll muster up the courage to return and get a salad. If anything I’ll for sure be getting more smoothies!

The was the very first Plant Café that I ever visited. My main reason for visiting was my curiosity to try their famous Plant Burger. I was a bit skeptical because it’s a veggie burger, but I’ve heard so many good things about it, even from the meat-​eaters.
According to their menu, the burger is made in-​house from lentils, mushrooms, beets, cashews, and bulgur wheat, and comes complete with tomato, grilled onions, lettuce, and vegan aioli atop a sourdough bun.

Now that is one weird looking burger. What’s funny about it is how they managed to capture the look of how a medium rare burger looks like inside. As weird as it looked and sounded, it was really good! It was very filling as well for a veggie burger. This definitely isn’t that frozen potato soy hockey puck that you get at the grocery store. The patty was very flavorful and I really enjoyed every bite!
I haven’t visited this location since then because of other Plant locations that are more convenient for me to get to. But I know if I’m ever back to the FiDi for lunch midweek, I know I can look to this location for a healthy and hearty meal.
