The Turnaround jazz trio and quartet is a live band that plays jazz standards, bebop, ballads and bossa nova. We also play bluesy, soulful, Latin and Brazilian jazz, and can mix and match to suit the event.

The band features piano, upright bass and jazz drums, as well as additional vocals, saxophone and/​or jazz guitar. We pride ourselves on our performance and professionalism. We have our own sound system and carry full liability insurance. Excellent references are available on request.

The Turnaround performs for weddings, gala fundraisers and special events in the greater bay area and wine country at venues such as San Francisco City Hall’s South Light Court, the SF Symphony Gala at Macy’s Union Square, the Westin St. Francis, the Trocadero Clubhouse at Stern Grove, the CA Academy of Sciences, the Claremont Resort in Berkeley, the Ritz Carleton in Half Moon Bay, The the Château de Vie Winery, Calistoga Ranch Spa and Resort, and the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, among many other venues.

History

Established in 2005.

The Turnaround began peforming in 2005, and finished recording an eponymous cd in 2007, which is available at cdbaby​.com.

the Turnaround is lead by Alexey Berlind, an accomplished drummer, percussionist, bandleader and teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area whose styles include jazz, Afro-​Cuban folkloric music, salsa, rock and funk. He has performed at the San Jose Jazz Festival and The North Beach Jazz Festival, on Princess Cruise ships in the Caribbean and Mexico, at the Berkeley World Festival, at the American Music Hall and at countless clubs, weddings and private events around the wine country and the greater Bay Area.
