This is year #2 of the SFSPCA’s free dog costume parade open to all whose owners are nuts enough to waltz down the runway with their pup dressed as a piñata, 70’s Elvis, Dim Sum. a unicorn, and more. There’s a lot of sponsored booths, mostly there to give all those dogs and their owners a place and reason to congregate until the big runway show. Then it’s just pure fun as each dog(all breeds welcome) and owner is announced by a spirited, quick-witted emcee as they make their runway debut. I didn’t go there to learn a thing but in fact, did learn a few: * Chihuahuas don’t take fondly to wearing hats; * Bulldogs appear to pay no mind to ridiculous costumery; and * Pugs dressed as donkeys and Chihuahuas dressed as wooly rams make me smile. Ocho the Wonder Dog declares this a five-star event and is busy pondering the landscape of her mind to come up with a creative costume for next year’s event.
