The Wine House

this is one of the best wine shops in the country. careful well thought out selections, access to futures, super knowledgeable staff with great palates, David is particularly great and has a better palate than Robert Parker (who use to be great some time ago). Recently i purchased a mixed case of outstanding Italian wines for the great price of less than $ 150 and drank well above their price points. there are deals to be had on many wines that are flying under the radar of the mass media but for those who listen to shops like the wine house you will be able to have access to these great «undiscovered» wines. it is a shame that the outdated alcohol regulations won’t allow them to have a tasting room.

The selection here is amazingly well-​curated, including lots of appellations and producers you won’t find anywhere else — reflecting the fact that they direct import much of their selection. If you are a fan of regional Old World wines with an incredible price-​to-​value, then this is the place for you. I am always finding something interesting and awesome here.
While they cover every price range, their monthly Dirty Dozen represents incredible value — 12 hand-​picked bottles for under $ 10 a bottle, with great tasting notes and food pairing recos. It is a perfect and low-​risk way to explore.
Peter, Tom, Anya, & team’s expertise is on full display in the store and via their awesome & informative e-​newsletter.
And did I mention that they are huge Sauternes enthusiasts? Bonus.

The Wine House is simply the best at what they do. Whether buying wine online or in person, the Wine House always comes through.
I love their Dirty Dozen promotion and newsletter deals.
They always have the premier French wines, particularly Bordeaux and Burgundy. The selection of California Cabernet and Pinots is also extensive.
The new Dogpatch/​Mission Bay location is clutch. Right on 3^rd/​21^st — across from the Warriors new stadium!

I love the wine house. They have a great selection of wonderful wines from France, Italy, Argentina and California. I always get great recommendations for food parings, which is very helpful since I don’t know much about that subject. Great prices and deals. There is no downside to this place.

I am crazy in love with this wine shop but my mom is an even bigger fan. She pre-​orders and picks up a dirty dozen straight from the airport when she comes to visit! That is dedication. I highly recommend them — everything they sell is top notch and the service is great. A lovely local business.

This is such a neat little wine store in the Portrero area. This was completely on a whim that we stopped in. Great prices, and a group of people ready to help at the drop of a hat.
I would say stop in and say hi, because you might just get a personal wine consultant the staff is so nice.

I just stumbled across this place today, after going to the Potrero Whole Foods (it’s just a block away) and as a highly functioning wino who loves a bargain, I was delighted to discover wines from all over the world, in the $ 10 range. The salesteam of three were all very friendly and knowledgable. The selection was overwhelming, and I went home with four different bottles for under $ 60 total bill, which was a very fair price for the quality of wines I chose. Check out this hidden gem!

Two words: Dirty Dozen. We happen to like things that start with «dirty,» but besides that, its a genius way to get to try new wine every month. A mixed case of wine, pre-​screened by the best in the business, for $ 119 including tax! It comes with a print out of their description of each wine and what it would go well with – we consult this little bible every night and are almost never let down.
I’m not just using them for their Dirty Dozen, however – I often go in to ask what I should bring home to go with bacon-​wrapped scallops or thai chicken or rosemary salmon or whatever crazy concoction I am all excited about making for dinner that night or to bring to a party and they always hook me up with something just right.
We are lucky enough to live mere blocks away from this wine temple, but my aunt and uncle even drive from Oakland for the deals and selection here!

If you want to shop at a real wine shop in San Francisco where real people know a whole lot about wine, mostly French including Champanges, some beautiful Burgundies, but also ports and more, then you should shop here. This wine store is a wine lover’s delight. Knowledgeable staff, friendly service, and great deals every time! The Dirty Dozen is a great introduction to good wines at a low entry price! Go there and prove me wrong!

HUGE selection, lot’s of imports and a very knowledgable friendly staff. Definitely a destination for the wine snob.

After two years of driving past their signs on 16^th and 17^th I wandered in here for some last minute holiday gifts. What a fantastic place! It’s set up like a warehouse, but with descriptions of each wine, everything organized by grape and country of origin and many knowledgeable sales people on hand to help you choose, it feels more like a luxe experience albeit with bargain prices. They had bottles priced from $ 4 to $ 100+, certainly not everything on the market but plenty to keep me intrigued for some years to come. I look forward to going back again soon!

I saw a sign advertising a wine place while walking around my neighborhood months ago, and promptly forgot it. But then, a few months later, I saw the sign again and since I had time to kill, decided to actually walk to the store.
Unlike most stores that sell wine around these parts, there are very few Californian wines (or US wines in general) in this store. The specialty is french wines, something I am somewhat familiar with but by no means anywhere near an expert in. Luckily for me, they do know what they are doing there, and seem to be quite good at providing the right information for the customer at hand:
Recently I had a wine tasting of US Varietals compared to their corresponding French Regional wines. I was assigned the Burgundy, so I asked about a good one that wasn’t too expensive, and I ended up with a very nice bottle which was incredibly well priced.
A couple of weeks later, I went back in to look at something else, and while I was walking around, I overheard a guy ask about wines to drink 10 years out. He received a much longer and complex answer than I received (although the same bottle that I purchased was mentioned).
Anyway my point is, if you are interested in French wines, this is a good place to go!

They have a GIGANTIC selection of French wines organized by region. The rest of the space is filled with Californian, German, Spanish, Italian, Aussie/​NZ, etc of pretty variable quantities.
Lots of cool stuff about this place. You can buy bulk – I think we might have looked here for our wedding wine if we had known about it a couple years ago. As their supplies run low, they discount individual bottles. They also sell a monthly «Dirty Dozen» wine sampler for about $ 100)that would be cool if we could drink that much wine. They have a email and print newsletter that describes their new stock. Besides the inexpensive stuff, they certainly have their share of higher-​end wine that I’m frankly too intimidated by to ever buy. Friendly and helpful staff.
It’s worth just stopping by to look. It’s remarkable how pretty the wine looks, just displayed in their wooden crates.

It is with great apprehension that I write this review — as a woman should always keep some thing secret: her age (late twenties, early thirties?), where she scored her designer dress (Chanel, on sale), and suppliers of good, inexpensive wine. But, for the sake of YOU not drinking that $ 2 Charles Shaw SWILL… here you go.
I appreciate a good selection of French anything — pastries, cheeses, restaurants, films, fashion houses… so walking into Wine House was the equivalent of walking into Alla Prima and being surrounded by Aubade (fancy Frawnch underthings!) at 50% off retail. French wine for days — and there are some really great finds at under $ 20.
Don’t worry, they have stuff for you collectors out there as well… but seriously, I bought 5 bottles of wine for under $ 70, including a bottle of Cremant d’Alsace Brut (that would be «bubbly» to you non-​wine nerds). Some of their sales are kind of unbelievable too.

Okay, sooo maybe I didn’t actually go there, since those Capital One miles don’t seem to take you as far as you’d hope, but I did go on a whirlwind and educational adventure at the Wine House on Saturday.
We were supposed to go to Napa this weekend and after other plans got in the way, the plan for wineage was sadly postponed. So we decided to at least get some sort of wine fill in and head here. As we were driving up, I was debating whether or not my friend might actually be a serial killer since it seemed like he was taking me to an abandoned lot or something, but then yay, he’s not a serial killer and actually just a wino in the know! Phew.
When we walked in, I instantly liked it. It’s a huge warehouse with wine, I mean, what the hell else does one need to put a smile on your face. Oh? What’s that? You need case discounts? They’ve got em! Oh and you need a guy named Peter to take you through the place and teach you more about wine in 13 minutes than you would learn after reading Wine Spectator for 3 years straight? You’re in luck, cuz he’s there as well.
I got turned onto about $ 200 worth of wine on Saturday and while that may sound like a lot, when you break it down, I only paid about $ 11-​$ 14 a bottle and that my friends, is an awesome score! So now I get to spend the next few months trying wines I’ve never even heard of before and most certainly can’t pronounce. but I know they will be «leathery,» «dense,» «stemmy,» and definitely NOT «fruit forward.»
Can’t wait!

Amazing selection of French wines, especially Rhone and country
French wines. Good selection of Burgundy and Bordeaux, particularly from lesser known/​regarded producers.
I love to stop by the Wine House and load up on great Cotes du Rhone’s. I usually pick up a few gems in addition to the everyday drinkables.
In addition to the huge selection from the Rhone (a little Brunel heavy) check out their Chablis from the likes of Pommier, and rustic Burgundies from Naddef and others

I was on a search for a specific Gigondas wine that I had to replaced asap! I went to three other wine stores and could not find the specific wine I was looking for. I drove around the city for hours looking for a wine that nobody carried anymore. I was disappointed, sad and worried, but Wine House Limited changed everything… well, not everything, but made things a little better.
The store did not have the same Gigondas wine I wanted, but they did have in-​stock a «better» one which I ended up buying — a little more expensive, but I’m sure totally worth it. I also bought a couple of other wines for only $ 11 each.
Wide selection of wine, great/​reasonable prices and very nice people. I especially like that you can order on-​line and have it delivered or if it’s easier for you, pick up your order at the store.
I would totally be back here again. I think I will order some wine on-​line and pick it up this weekend at Wine House :-)!
