From the doorman to the lady checking you in to my citizenship interviewer, it was all a very organized and efficient operation. I was most impressed with how friendly and professional everyone was.

My wife and I had a great experience here today! The staff were very friendly. There was no line and plenty of space in the waiting room (1:20 appointment time, on a Monday.) Our assigned officer was a pleasure to speak with and she made what could be an intimidating and stressful experience laid back, smooth and professional. After about 20 minutes discussing our relationship with her, she explained that my wife’s green card would arrive in the mail in a few weeks.
You’re in good hands with these folks, they don’t want to stress you out any more than you may be already; they’re just enforcing the law while trying to do it as pleasantly as possible.

At the end of August, I had my citizenship interview at USCIS in San Francisco.
I visited many government offices such as SSA, USCIS, DMV in New York and California, but I never had such a pleasant experience as this citizenship interview at USCIS. The lady who interviewed me was really nice, calm, patient and professional. I was nervous, but she made me feel more relaxed and everything went smoothly.
A few days later, I had another a nice experience when a lady from the same office called me to schedule my oath. Again, very warm, patience, giving me a lot of details, and I even was able to choose between two options.
The Oath Ceremony was small and special at the USCIS office in San Francisco (where I had the interview). I understood this is happening only a few times per year, with a special occasion usually. In this case, it was the Constitution Week. We were just 10 people receiving the oath, and the special guest was the Secretary of Homeland Security — Jeh Johnson — who’s speech I liked. Everything was pretty formal, which was expected in this case. I did enjoy the experience more than I thought, and everyone was so friendly.

Among all immigration process including H1B, Greencard and Citizenship interview, I enjoyed interview the most. Officer was friendly and processing was smooth. It was big contrast compared to border control, immigration officer at the airport and so on.
The only reason my rating is 3 is because of old bitch at the reception. I arrived early. Went through security without issue and checked in earlier than my schedule. I waited for 1 hour and I saw bunch of peoples arrived later also went in.
I returned to reception and explained that I waited too long. This chinese old woman barely speaking english asked «Did you go to bathroom? Wait in the waiting room. Officer might call you any time. Don’t go to bathroom». She didn’t even bother to look at my case.
I waited another 30 min. Then I went back to reception. Now another receptionist. I explained that I waited 1 and half hour. She said that shouldn’t happen. She looked at my case and said she will check with officer.
It turns out that old bitch put my case in wrong box. The officer assigned to my case thought I didn’t show up and she liked one less interviewee today. She apologized instead though it’s not her fault.
So if you are greeted by old chinese woman speaking broken english, and you waited long time, you might need to challenge her because she might made another mistake for your case. When I finished mine, I saw only 1 waiting in the waiting room. I wasted 2 good hours.

To become a naturalized US citizen, an applicant needs to go to an interview, which he or she needs to pass before taking the Oath.
This USCIS office is where I went to be interviewed. You have to submit to a quick security check where you are asked to take off your shoes and open your purse/​bag. It does not take long as an airport security check so it is easier to appreciate the fact that the chances of a madman going postal while I am waiting will be on the low side. (To any madmen out there, no, this is not a challenge to prove me wrong.)
The whole security check took about a minute and I was told to go to the second floor. Once I got there, I had to check in and show my appointment letter. I was then given a packet which turned out to be a bunch of application forms that you can fill out before the Oath Taking Ceremony. These are Voter Registration Form and Passport Application Form. There is also an instruction page for the Oath Taking so do look at the contents of this envelope.
The wait was faster than I was anticipating. I was called for an interview 10 minutes before my stated time and was out within 20 minutes of interview. Everybody here was pleasant and encouraging, which was great since almost everyone who had business here seemed like nervous wrecks.
If you are going to have your test and interview, do be glad if this is the office where you are asked to report. They are quick and friendly.

My husband and I found ourselves at the USCIS to petition for a green card after we married in the US. Coming to this building is a little nerve wracking, but we tried to be as relaxed as possible. Everything was very prompt and professional. Our interviewer was matter of fact, but gave us a few enough smiles to put us at ease. They said at the end they would present the case and that it was up to their supervisor, so we didn’t get an answer at the end of the interview. However, very shortly after, our immigration attorney sent us an email update that it was approved (you can check your status online and I suggest you do so!). I’ve not interacted with the government much, but this process has been rather efficient. I’ve been pleased the whole way through, so THANK YOU USCIS!

Ours was at the 2^nd floor. Interview at 2:25, went into the building at around 2:05. No line when we got there but as soon as we went in, a line formed behind us. There was no wait at the reception either. Got called in for the interview at around 2:25, give or take. Our interview was fun, light, and quick. No more than 10 minutes. We used street parking (2-​hr max) a block away and didn’t even max it out. There is valet parking in front but it was a bit expensive. More on parking in the Tips section.

Had a great experience here this morning for my interview. The people that work there are very professional and also very friendly. Everything went smoothly. Thumbs up on the tip about parking across the street.

Came here for my citizenship interview. I checked in at reception and was assigned to sit in a designated waiting area. It was a bit unnerving because it is such an important interview and you hear horror stories of being denied, my interview went well and took about 30 minutes to complete. The interviewer was courteous and professional. I was tested in civics and on my proficiency in reading and writing in English. All of which I passed with flying colors. At the end of the interview I was given an approval letter and a recommendation for an Oath ceremony. All in all a great experience for me. Just a little tip there is parking located across the street.

I didn’t know this place had a detainment centre until some I knew was being held for deportation. I just would recommend parking at Portsmouth since it is cheaper than anywhere around here. And if visiting someone here, don’t go around lunch because they will not be able to see you.
