Viange

I’ve been to Viange since I came from Japan two years ago. I specifically go to see Aki who has been great in styling my hair and giving me nice and useful advice on my hair style. I’d highly recommend you see him at Viange!

This review is for my stylist Jay. So I hadn’t had my hair cut since so I decided to call him and ask if he would cut my hair. Like all stylist he wasn’t very different from them, but since it’s been ages since we’ve talked so we pretty much just talked as he was giving me the hair cut.

Aki gave me the best haircut of my life and that is no exaggeration. I had no idea what I wanted and was able to pick out a style to compliment my taste and figure… I can’t believe how much volume my previously limp lifeless hair now has!
Aki definitely knows what he’s doing and I highly recommend asking him for his suggestions on what looks best. I’ve tried this at other salons and never had such an amazing result. He’s also incredibly charming, friendly and puts you right at ease. So glad to have found this place– will be back! I would also like to mention that Aki fit me in for an appointment when the salon was basically closed and provided me more than enough time to make sure my hair looked fabulous despite me being the last and only person there.

I looked high and low after moving to San Francisco for a good salon. The search is over and I’m happy to have a stylist like Aki in the city.

Kaori has been my hair stylist for years, since she was in Japan Town. I always recommend her to friends. All of my friends are super happy with their results.
She always discusses with you before she picks up her scissors. She wouldn’t say yes or agree with you if she thinks it would be bad for your hair. Once my friend wanted to have her hair cut really short after a couple years with long hair. Kaori said it would be better to have it cut in the middle instead of all short like my friend expected.
After discussion, she always makes sure what you want before her first cut. Even with the first cut (small amount of hair), she would check with you again: is this okay?
She pays attention to her customers hair condition and gives good advice/​suggestions on how to take care of/​maintain your hair. She definitely pays attention to details and is a perfectionist. I don’t have to worry how to take care of my hair or how to maintain the style, it grows back with a nice and subtle style.
I had her dye my hair a couple times. She texted me after to check up on it, and she even redid it once to adjust it for me. She’s the only one I trust to do my hair now and I always get great compliments.

This review is for my stylist Kaori. This is my first time coming to this salon, and I got my hair cut and colored. The location is convenient and the space is big and peaceful.
The Pros:
The thing about Kaori that sets her apart from all the expensive and highly Unilocal rated salons I’ve checked out in SF is that she really takes her time and is extremely meticulous. She sat down with me to go over the exact color and cut I’m looking for. We flipped through magazines together until she understands exactly what I want — cut, color, and the style of bangs. She first lightened my hair, then cut it, then toned it, then cut it a tiny bit again to make sure everything is even. The entire process took a little over 3 hours, because she is so careful, so detail oriented, and a perfectionist. I’ve been to 4 – 5 Unilocal star salons and the entire process took 1.5 hours tops. They don’t make you feel like a valued guest and their rushed pace can make their work sloppy. With Kaori, she really makes sure she’s doing an excellent job and you can tell she takes her job very seriously.
The haircut is $ 85 and the overall color is $ 160. The color is VERY expensive for just an overall color. I wouldn’t go back because of their coloring prices.
The Cons:
Even though my haircut looked great after much styling, Kaori had cut my hair way too short; much shorter than what we had discussed and agreed upon. I know this runs counter to what I had written above (about Kaori being very detail oriented and discussing the style, cut, and color thoroughly before beginning her work), but the hair length is the one part she really messed up on, big time. Prior to the cut, she had told me specifically that she would be taking off 2 inches. She had said this twice. It looks like she took off about 4 inches. I didn’t want short hair at all, and I didn’t think it was necessary to emphasize to her that I wanted to keep my hair long, when we had already agreed on cutting 2 inches. She took a snip that was 4 inches before I could say anything, so it was too late. This is very bad on her. It is as all that meticulous consultation was in vain; ironic.
As the cut has grown out (and also with less styling), it also looks very simple and not stylish. I don’t know how to describe it, other than that it looks very basic, almost like a cut from Super Cuts. The bangs are short and blunt, and don’t ‘blended in’ with the rest of the hair. The long layers also too blunt.
To me, the cons outweigh the pros. No matter how careful and meticulous she is, it’s not worth a poor and way-​too-​short haircut. The hair coloring was okay/​mediocre, but nothing exceptional (and certainly not worth the outrageous price).

I have been to Viange a few times, and Ahi and Kaori have been great in styling my hair and giving me helpful suggestions. It’s a pricy place, but the results are outstanding.

I recommend Jay, he is amazing hairstylist. I had an idea about my new look, but he made something more better, which perfectly fits to my face, style. He’s professional in colours, haircuts, and everything that you can imagine. He’s the funniest hairdresser i’ve ever met by the way. Thank you Jay!

This review is specifically for Ms Kaori. She’s been my stylist from her JTown days. I’m elated that she’s back in SF. She works 2 days a week at Viange SF, and other days in Saratoga. I never have problem booking with her.
Kaori is so into details and such a perfectionist, I can only trust her with my straighter than _​_​_​Asian mane. She never rush and there’s just a sense of zen and confidence about her that makes you feel refreshed afterwards. Kaori has worked on both my mid length to now pixie cuts. Our next project is some challenging dye…
If you’re looking for a relaxing and professional experience go see Kaori.

I’ve just been at Viange SF for the first time and it’s pretty nice salon, actually pretty relaxing atmosphere for a salon. I specifically went to see Kaori who I just followed from her previous Japan town location. I known her for 4 –5 years now. It took me five years to find somebody so good, eager for challenges, absolute perfectionist and true artist. Oh, yeah and amazing person on top of that.
I was sick and tired of all SF salons who would not ever listen to how and what I wanted but creating something way different than what I was telling them. So I went for something way different and decided to go with a Japanese salon. And that’s how I met Kaori, who actually listens to you.
Extremely talented and on top of things, there’s no way you are not going to be happy with her haircut. Even though she is Japanese she actually enjoys diversity in hair and styles. And that love for her job makes her that much more outstanding and better than the rest of them. I’m very picky when it comes to hair and if she makes me consistently happy after every haircut then I can say with confidence you are going to be happy too;)

Made an appointment online early the day before. It put me with Damian for a woman’s haircut. Saw that a Unilocaler had a bad experience with him and was a little hesitant but the salon itself had good reviews so I kept the appointment. Received an email to confirm and I did. Fought the holiday crowds to get to the salon 15 minutes early. Check in and told to take a seat in the back and wait for Damian. At 13 minutes past my appointment time, I notice the salon has cleared out. I go back up to the front desk and am told Damian has left – for the day. I ask for an explanation and they don’t have one. She said he must have seen he had an appointment as I made it yesterday and we both know Damian just flaked. She tried to get another stylist to help me as she knows this is a huge f*ck up on their part due to an unprofessional stylist. They seemed busy and annoyed to be asked though and couldn’t or wouldn’t help me. Then she offered to give me a haircut herself next week but I am out of town and had had it with this salon at this point. This has never happened to me at any other salon EVER! I should have listened to my instinct and never booked with this salon and Damian should be fired.
What makes this worse was this haircut was a treat to myself after five of the most emotionally and mentally grueling months of my life. I was so looking forward to having something nice and and that was ruined.

I was introduced to Balayage highlights by Ada when I originally planned to get Ombré, and I’m very happy with the outcome. Ada is my go to stylist, she’s very talented and caring. On another occasion I got a Brazilian Blowout and trim. Ada did a amazing job conquering my once thick and curly hair! I can now say I truly love my hair and it looks and feels incredibly healthy.

I hate writing negative reviews, but with all the other reviews praising this place, I feel obligated to share my lackluster experience at Viange.
I scheduled an appointment over the phone and was thrilled that they are open past five so I could walk here after work. However, when I showed up, they had no record of my appointment. The two stylists who were there that late kind of went back and forth over who would cut my hair, and I ended up with Anastasia. I explained to Anastasia that I was redeeming a Gilt City deal, and she couldn’t remember what the deal included. I had to pull it up as she was shampooing my hair to check if a deep conditioning treatment was part of the deal. It wasn’t. I almost expected her to throw it in after the scheduling debacle, but she didn’t.
Anastasia was really sweet while she cut my hair and she seemed to take a lot of time while styling it. I left feeling pretty good about myself. However, the next morning I noticed that she completely missed a section of my hair. There was a chunk of hair a good 2+ inches longer than the rest! I don’t know how she missed it after what seemed like a very thorough blow out. (See the salon photos for my picture.)
At this point, I could’ve just grabbed some scissors and made it even myself, but I wanted to go back just to show them what happened to my hair and see how they’d handle the situation. I walked back as soon as they opened and pointed out the flaw. I was placed in a chair and Anastasia walked out to greet me. I showed her the long strand and she says, «Oh looks like WE missed that yesterday!» No, YOU missed it. After she trimmed that piece, she combed out my hair and *I* found another long chunk of hair that needed to be evened out. I regret pointing it out to her and I should have waited to see if she’d notice it.
Once the haircut was over, I thought my hair looked pretty good, but for a place that charges about $ 80 a cut, I expected much, much better. I shouldn’t have been passed off to whatever stylist felt like staying late just because they screwed up in scheduling the appointment, and I definitely shouldn’t have to come back a second time to get my haircut fixed. If it wasn’t already obvious, I won’t be back.

I got my balayage highlights done by beautiful Melissa. The result is just WOW! I love love love it!
Then she gave me an amazing «Victoria’s Secret» blow-​dry! Melissa is super friendly and she knows what she is doing. She listened to me and asked questions to make the right decisions.
After a little talk, she just knew how I wanted my hair to look. It was an amazing experience bc my hair looks really natural with these beach like highlights. I highly recommend Melissa to anyone. Definitely worths it.

Viange is conveniently located near Union Sq down a well-​lit, shallow alley.
It’s a nice lofty space and the receptionist bring you a nice selection of tea, coffee, water upon arrival.
Noël brings a silent intensity to his hair styling /​cutting and uses his master skills to tailor amazing light voluminous haircuts for you.
If you’re looking for a chatty stylist, Noël’s not the man. If you’re looking for a great cut tailored for you, he’s amazing. Happy to have finally found a stylist I love after leaving Hayanto Salon in NYC!

Went here for first time, small alley way. Beautiful place, next to an awesome restaurant and nice shops. My appointment with Ada. She trimmed my hair and I got a balayage ombré. Soft hands and she takes her time and she gives you what you want. She gave me mimosa yum! Make appointments with Ada.

I went into Viange for the first time on Valentine’s Day to treat myself to a Brazilian Blowout. I made an appointment with Anastasia and was greeted with a fresh chocolate covered strawberry. The space is beautiful and has a great vibe.
Anastasia did an amazing job on my Brazilian Blowout — my hair was not too flat and I love it! Justin ended up washing and drying my hair afterward and it looked fantastic!
I walked out of the salon, feeling and looking great and had several people commenting on how beautiful my hair was!
Both Anastasia and Justin are fantastic! I highly recommend them and I will most certainly be back!

Salon Viange is a hidden gem! The name says it all… Beautiful angel! You will definitely feel like one once you come here. The space is relaxing and modern. Staff is amazing, kind and helpful!

Aki is amazing! Ive been to Aki for more than 2 years. It is so easy to set my hair every morning after the hair cut, which is exactly what Aki does in his salon.
I usually give a few requests and he makes suggestions and then makes the exact right style that I want, Aki knows what style fits each guest, and he makes it, and he has tons of ideas to make ladies beautiful! Of course, Aki is talented and his technique is perfect!

This has got to be the best hair cut. Aki really cares about the way hair looks on people. In fact, he asked me to stand up so that he could cut my hair to see the way the hair fits my body! That was definitely a first. At the end of the cut, my hair looked so healthy and it fit not only my face, but my body frame. He also showed me some really neat styling tricks.
The first thing I did when I left the salon was call my boyfriend and tell him that this is probably the best hair cut I’ve ever received. Definitely coming back here!
