Specialties
Flamenco dance classes for beginning through advanced levels.
We offer technique and choreography classes, as well as specialized classes as: castanet technique, bulerias, Sevillanas, footwork technique, mantone and fan technique.
Mostly adult classes, but young dancers, 8 years and up are welcome in all classes.

Beginning through advanced students are encouraged to perform in our yearly Flamenco Academy Student Performance Concert. [end of summer]
Advanced students are encouraged to join our Performance Group with numerous opportunities to perform throughout the year.
History
Established in 1991.
Virginia Iglesias’ passion for flamenco is palpable… in performance as well as in her roles as master teacher and company director. A powerful and dynamic performer, Ms. Iglesias is dedicated to sharing her passion with audiences, community and students. Her commitment to preserving, promoting and teaching traditional flamenco art is paralleled with creating and developing new and original ideas in her own innovative style, while maintaining consistently high artistic standards.
Ms. Iglesias received her training at Madrid’s renowned flamenco academy, «Amor De Dios» and began her professional dance career in Madrid, performing in Spanish dance companies and touring internationally. Since returning to the United States in 1991, she founded The Flamenco Academy of Dance in San Francisco.
Ms. Iglesias is a motivating and inspiring teacher, committed to making learning both enjoyable and challenging for all levels of dancers.

Directing and choreographing for her own performing company since 1991, Virginia Iglesias Flamenco Dance Company continues to inspire audiences with artistic excellence and an exceptional commitment to both traditional and modern influences in flamenco music and dance. Collaborating with world class musicians under the direction of composer and musical director Jorge Liceaga, this company demonstrates imagination, musically fusing flamenco with diverse cultures including Indian, Cuban and Middle Eastern music.
Receiving recognition for high artistic standards, creativity and innovation, her choreographies have been commissioned by the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program for the operas Carmen [1997] and La Traviata [1998], San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, Chinese Performing Artists of America, Raices de Mexico, and Tahoe Tallac Association’s Summer Arts and Music Festival.
