This review is for Mr. Wu just recently, I was in need of a License before my permit expired I called him after seeing so many great reviews about him on Unilocal.I took a chance and scheduled sessions with him right away around the end of January. I must say it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The money I spent was all worth it. I contacted Mr. Wu and scheduled two sessions with him (2hours each) and used his car for the test (and he even gave me an hour of practice before the test) I passed! Just yesterday I passed. My appointment was at 8:00 AM and he picked me up at 6:45! 15mins earlier because he knew I needed more practice. He is really passionate on what he does. It’s not all about the money with Mr. Wu. he even recommended me to another instructor that would be less expensive when he felt I needed more practice. (college student on a tight budget) But I refused and found a way to come up with some money, and scheduled another session with him, prior to my test. He teaches really good and communicates very effectively, where it’s not so difficult to understand. And needless to say delivers high quality service! I ended up passing with him. I still can’t believe I got my license! He has really been a blessing to me and many others! He is a really good communicator, professional and sharp. He even contacted me after I got my License to remind me to keep the documentation until my license comes in the mail. He is very on top of it and I could tell he cares about his students and makes a lot of effort to get you to pass. I been through many driving instructors and I must say he is the best in the bay area! I wish I have met Mr. Wu earlier and I would be an even better driver then I am now. He confidently said to me «90% of my students pass» I’m glad he was telling the truth. I was one of them! Mr. Wu is the best. If you want to get your license. Look no further! Thank You again Mr. WU! Mr. Yu is really good, experienced, professional teacher. I was really impressed on how he was teaching me and I still remember all his advices. At some point I was sure that I’m not going to pass a driven test from the first attempt as I never drove a car before, but he proved that it’s possible. I passed on the first driven test!
I don’t know why some people putting one start in the review it make no sense to me. In my life I saw bad teachers but Mr. Yu definitely is not one of them. He is a brilliant person.
I’m not going to put a lot of comments here as people already did that. Don’t wait, just call his number right now ;-)

Mr Yu was amazing! I had a look on Unilocal for driving schools and found him based on his massive number of 5 star reviews. I gave him a call to talk about it and he let me know his prices but told me to keep looking — he encouraged me to shop around further to make sure I’m getting a good deal. «With Mr Yu, everyone passes first time!» he said. So, sure enough, I looked around and he was right — he had a good price, and obviously seemed to get results, so I called him back and set up our first lesson!
Mr Yu walked me through everything I’d need to know to pass the test. We drove around, he’d give me tips on how to improve, and calmly and patiently taught me how to drive. He’s also got a great sense of humor, so he’s constantly lightening the mood with jokes and stories.
I did 2 two-​hour lessons with him before scheduling the test. On the morning of the test, we drove around for another hour to get comfortable, then we went to the DMV and took the test using his car. «With Mr Yu, everyone passes first time!». He was right! It was a piece of cake.
I couldn’t be happier with my experience. From that first call to having my driving license was about 2 or 3 weeks, and I’ve now been driving all over California on road trips and errands. I’d recommend him to anyone.

Mr. Yu is a fantastic teacher and very professional. He is by far the best driving teacher I’ve had.

I normally do not do Unilocal rating but I think I must do on this one.
I was looking for a driving school and the best way was to use the internet. After narrowing my choices to a selected few, I was contemplating whether I should go for Mr Yu (Winsen Driving school) or the other two (I can’t remember whats the other two).
My biggest problem was when I saw a –ve rating at Unilocal of Mr Yu mentioning about him being unorganized and incomplete in his teaching. Anyway, I went with my gut feelings that 99% of very good rating should triumph over a ONE single not so favorable rating.
Being a negative person as I am, I took my lessons with Yu with this –ve rating ever consciously behind my mind. I was surprised and whatever doubt i had was immediately removed by how Mr Yu approach his driving lessons. He is extremely detailed, meticulous and organized. He gave me a lot of «not in the books» good driving habit and tips. These and his very patient nature made me very comfortable and relax in my driving.
Overall, I would highly rate Mr Yu for his honesty too. He actually advised me that I am ready and should actually go for my driving test even thou I had two remaining lessons with him. Well, that’s what I did and Praise God! I passed my test last week.

Before I took lessons from Mr. Law, I was so fearful of driving. I had tried another driving school for two lessons (210 mins total) but it did not help but made me less-​confident and frustrated. I told Mr. Law that I learned a little from another instructor but I wanted to start learning from zero.
From the very first time, he let me control both the wheel and the pedals; he never took control away from me even once, just helped turning the wheel and stepping the brake when I did something wrong, which was totally different from the instructor I learned before. When I got off Mr. Law’s car after the first 120 min lesson, I found I learned everything that I tried to learn but couldn’t in the 210 mins with another instructor. His extremely patient, calm, and friendly demeanor helped me overcome the fear and made me enjoy driving. His let-​the-​student-​drive-​and-​give-​instructions-​in-​the-​most-​proper-​timing style teaching helps you quickly learn and understand the rules of the road. Thanks to Mr. Law, I could feel very confident in the behind-​the-​wheel test and got my drivers license at the first attempt.
I highly recommend Mr. Jay Law and Winsen Driving School for anyone who is extremely nervous of driving or feels uncomfortable after taking other driving schools’.

Mr. Yu did the impossible, which was to teach my wife how to drive. Apparently, she had such a traumatic experience attempting to learn how to drive as a teenager that she decided to take public transportation all these years. I don’t know how she got to be 35 years old without a driver’s licence, but she managed to get her licence on the first try after a few lessons with Mr. Yu and myself.
Before her first lesson with Mr. Yu, I had a couple terrifying white-​knuckle experiences trying to teach my wife the basics of controlling a car in an empty parking lot. When Mr. Yu came by to pick her up for her first lesson, I had to warn him that she really didn’t know anything and that she’s a hazard to everyone on the streets, but much to my pleasant surprise, he had her drive across SF and back on her very first lesson. As the weeks progressed, my wife got better and better, and she was able to easily pass her driving test on the very first try.
Mr. Yu seems to be very patient and very results oriented. He did the impossible, which was to teach my wife how to drive! Highly recommended.

The enthusiastic reviews from the other Unilocalers are misleading. Compared to another instructor I took, Mr. Yu was very unorganized. He didn’t go through the pre-​test exam checklist with me at all, and never taught me the hand signals. During the drive, he just kept asking me about my job and kept putting his hands over mine on the steering wheel, which made my uncomfortable. Also he charged much more than other driving schools and never gave me a handbook to consult. If it wasn’t his proximity to where I live, I would never take a lesson from him again.

This review is long overdue. Mitchell Yu is an amazing instructor, who’s in high demand. I found Mr. Yu based on Unilocalers’ reviews and was not steered wrong (no pun intended). My daughter was very fearful, but Mr Yu put her at ease with their first two-​hour lesson. We scheduled a few more two-​hour lessons spaced out about 3 – 4 weeks apart, because he is in demand! Mr. Yu is always on-​time for lessons, communicative by phone or text, and gives you useful feedback on what driving skills to work on. My daughter said she really enjoyed learning to drive with Mr. Yu compared to practice driving with me. Why? Because a nice, calm, and patient driving instructor is always preferable over a screaming parent! :)
My daughter didn’t pass her first driving test by one point, but passed on the second attempt a couple of weeks later. Mr. Yu is also very helpful if you need to schedule a driving test appointment with the DMV. I will definitely be calling Mr. Yu in three years when my youngest daughter is old enough to get her license!

Mr. Yu is awesome! He loves his job and it’s a lot of fun to drive with him. I think you should just stop browsing Unilocal and call his number right now. :)

One word– Amazing! No matter what I write here, I will do no justice to how incredible Mr. Yu is. I’ve always been heck nervous of driving and I could never get over my road fear. But from just my first lesson with Mr. Yu, I started to overcome my road fear almost instantly with the confidence and affirmation Mr. Yu gave me. He is extremely patient with his students, takes a personal interest in helping them with their driving issues and corrects them in a calm and composed manner. His explanations on why what you did wrong was wrong helps you understand better and prevent yourself making the same mistakes again. He is also extremely friendly and personable and makes learning a fun experience.
Bottom line: If you’ve always found yourself nervous of driving and are looking for that right teacher who can help you pass your test and be a safe and cautious driver, yet be friendly and courteous along the way, look no further!
Also — I passed my test on the first try!

Mr Yu is as good as it gets when it comes to driving instructors. I passed my behind-​the-​wheel test on my first attempt. I took one lesson with Mr Yu, but mostly because I knew how to drive already, and wanted some formal instruction before taking the test.
He will make sure you drive the full two hours, and keep giving you all the tips and tricks required to pass the test.
He’s very patient and easy to talk to — doesn’t stress you out, doesn’t cut corners, and personally works very hard to make sure that you’re all set for the test. His car is very comfortable, and he doesn’t just teach you for the test — he makes sure that you’ll be a good driver wherever you go. He didn’t pressure me into taking more classes either.
I’d recommend Mr Yu’s services to everybody who wants to pass the test on their first try! (who doesn’t)

With much thanks to Mr Yu, I passed my driving test this morning in Daly City. I had failed the DMV behind-​the-​wheel driving test once and decided to contact Mr Yu after reading the Unilocal reviews. Indeed, Mr Yu is a great and highly experienced driving instructor. He gives pertinent tips and advice while you are driving and tries his best to make sure that you understand and remember his helpful tips. Mr Yu is a busy man and I am glad that I could take lessons with him. The few hours of driving lessons that I took with him were highly productive and he managed to impart a lot on me within the limited time. Most importantly, Mr Yu is a really personable, supportive and encouraging instructor who gave me confidence in my driving ability.

I had zero driving experience and zero confidence before taking Mr. Yu’s lessons. Mr Yu is very nice, patient, and professional. He teaches driving skills in a way that improves your confidence. After the first lesson, I felt I’m no longer terrified of driving.
His instructions are easy to follow. And he focuses on developing a safe driving habit. His rates are fairly reasonable. He offers pick-​up at your house. You get to drive for two full hours each lesson.
I highly recommend Mr. Yu for anybody who’s terrified of driving and wants to overcome their fear.

I never write reviews on Unilocal.But this time I feel I must come to write for Mr. Yu, without him, my wife and me can never get a DL in such short time. and with his patient and knowledgable experience, we learn a lot not only to pass the behind wheel test but also very practicle for daily driving as well.
I am around 35 yrs old, and I almost start from zero, and my memory is not like teenager, but Mr. Yu is so patient and he keep remind me in every necessary points, so even me can remember every required actions. And safety is the most priority I learn from Mr Yu.
The only regret is I should come to Mr Yu couple years earlier.

Very happy to have chosen Winsen Driving School for my teenage son. He worked with Mr. Yu as soon as he received his driver’s permit. I noticed a big difference right after his first two hour lesson. While helping to improve my son’s confidence behind the wheel, Mr. Yu also instilled very important safety habits.
Mr. Yu makes it easy to schedule around your child’s schedule and will drive to your home. I think he charges a little extra if it’s outside a certain radius but not much. He responds very quickly to phone or text messages.
In my son’s words, he felt that Mr. Yu really prepared him for the behind the wheel test. He says that Mr. Yu’s lessons make it nearly impossible not to pass on the first try. My son also appreciated Mr. Yu’s patience and calm demeanor. It made it easy for him to learn the lessons and absorb all the information needed for the driver’s test.

I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so after learning from driving instructor, Mr. Yu.
For a bit of background, I needed to learn how to drive in a very short amount of time, as I had less than a month to take & pass the behind-​the-​wheel test before my permit expires (yes, school and procrastination habits don’t help much). I had also never driven in my life, let alone sat in the driver’s seat, so I came to Mr. Yu with absolutely no prior experience.
I contacted Mr. Yu and scheduled my first two hour lesson with him. As soon as we met in person, he brought me into his car and explained the basic features of a car, as well as how to handle them. He also went through the pre-​driving checks that the driving test proctors ask for (brake lights, windshield wipers, etc.). Shortly after, I began the actual driving. Through the course of a few lessons, I felt very prepared for the behind-​the-​wheel test.
Mr. Yu was very patient and easy to talk to; I never felt rushed or pressured to do something I wasn’t comfortable with. He teaches proper driving etiquette, and reminds you with tips that you should keep in mind while driving. His rates are very reasonable, but be sure to book a lesson ahead of time, as his schedule fills up quickly with other students.
When I was considering when to take the behind-​the-​wheel test, I realized that I needed to make an appointment on the CA DMV website. However, due to my permit expiring soon, I was not able to find an open date. Mr. Yu, on the otherhand, was able to get me an appointment time a day before my permit expired! On top of that, it was at 8:00 in the morning, the prime time for taking the driving test (less traffic, less pedestrians out, etc.).
For the big test day, Mr. Yu offered me to take the test in his car, as I was most comfortable driving with it. He came along with me to the DMV, and provided some much needed emotional support (I HAD to pass on the first attempt, or I would need to renew my permit). Nevertheless, I passed on the FIRST attempt!
My experience with Mr. Yu was a pleasant one, and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing to learn how to drive. :)
