was passing through chinatown and needed some draino for the bathroom so i popped in here after reading favorable reviews on Unilocal.they only had 2 types – both off-​brands. both bottles, at 1 QT, were $ 5.99. i grabbed one and walked to the counter, only to have it leak on my hands. the lady at the counter said: it’s the way you’re holding it! Don’t hold it like that.
um, shouldn’t it be sealed so no matter if i decided to turn it upside down and do a jig, i could rest assured my fingerprints weren’t going to be burned off and i could still be identified should anything drastic happen to me down the line???
i should have left at that. i should have politely put the busted bottle down on the counter and quietly panic about the burning of my flesh as i walked out the door, my $ 5.99 securely in my wallet. but no, i thought, hey this is chinatown, it’s going to be cheaper than anywhere else, my bathtub is clogged with mounds of my shed-​ed shame and debauchery, let’s get a non-​leaking bottle from these ladies to fix that.
anyway, after i walked a little bit down pacifico st. nearby and there’s an ‘oriental market’ something or other (hate the name.) with household knick knacks that had the same bottle of off-​brand draino for $ 1.99.
you got me this time Yee Cheong and i may have left fingertips at your counter, but you won’t be getting anymore of my money!
for hardware/​household stuff, i’ll stick to the Nob Hill Hardware store where the owner is really nice and genuinely helpful, the prices are fair, and shit doesn’t burn your flesh off.

This place rocks! I initially had searched Unilocal for a place to make keys and couldn’t find a spot within walking distance of my office in North Beach. I then realized it may be smart to search for hardware and immediately found this place! It’s cheap and got great service. I definitely recommend going here! :)

very decent selection of odd and ends. i came here to buy replacement screws for my bed, and they have a lot of choices. ALSO SUPER CHEAP. i’ve also gotten keys cut here and they do it immediately on the spot, and for like. 80 cents a key. DEAL.
