Savitri (b. Stephanie Barnett) started her yoga asana practice at age fifteen, studying ashtanga yoga in Santa Cruz, California. She deepened her practice by residing in the Himalayas where she received her training in the ancient hatha yoga style.
She teaches both ashtanga yoga and classical Hatha yoga.
The teachings are a synthesis of the four paths and five basic points in yoga:
Four Paths:
1. Karma Yoga, The Path of Action
2. Bhakti Yoga, The Path of Devotion
3. Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga
4. Jnana Yoga, The Yoga of Knowledge
Five Points:
1. Proper Exercise (Asanas)
2. Proper Breathing (Pranayama)
3. Proper Relaxation
4. Proper Diet
5. Positive Thinking (Vedanta) and Meditation (Dhyana)
