Yosh Olfactory Sense

Yosh made a custom perfume for my wedding, and it was the single-​most special part of getting ready for the big day! She also created a custom fragrance for my maids and the other important women in my life that I gave out as gifts. Each one of the girls has become a big Yosh fan!
I can’t think of a more creative, kind, and brilliant woman to work with on such a special project for yourself or those you care about!

If you ever have a chance to meet her, I think you’d agree that Yosh is a lovely lady inside and out… sweet, generous, funny, well-​traveled and just beautiful. But that’s not enough for me to unconditionally love her perfumes…
Until of course you sniff and wear any one of her alchemical juices. They are amazing, sophisticated and wondrous… Sombre Negra takes me back to my youth and every one of her creations is a time machine of olfaction, memory and imagination.
Yosh is a stellar and pioneering artisanal perfumer. Her liquid magic puts to shame the great majority of the overpriced, corporate-​branded, unsubtle and chintzily-​formulated stuff you can bankrupt yourself on when in fancy dept. stores.
Do yourself a favor and get to know her gorgeous fragrances before she is bought out by Chanel or L’Oreal!

I met Yosh Han at the International Chocolate Salon at Fort Mason a few weeks ago and have been lusting after one of her lovely perfume oils ever since. Because she didn’t have anything available for sale at the time, I left so unsatisfied. It didn’t help that the friend I had with me loved it on my skin and kept asking to take another whiff.
When I first sniffed around, I came across U4EAHH!, a sweet fruity summery scent. I immediately liked it. Then I sniffed the next fragrance down the line… Sottile, a simple yet beautiful floral. I debated between the two for a while. It was like trying to decide between bottled cheerfulness and bottled gracefulness. I leaned toward the graceful Sottile. Yosh agreed based on the aura she saw around me. Interesting. I wanted to know more.
So, I made an appointment to see Yosh for a personal consultation at Barney’s New York in Union Square during a special appearance she was making. Along with only a handful of specialty online fragrance retailers, Barney’s is one of the only places that carries Yosh Han’s perfumes.
When I met Yosh for the second time, she acknowledged that I looked very familiar to her though she could not recall where we had met even after I reminded her. During my appointment, she did an aura reading (very similar to a psychic reading) with her eyes closed as we sat face-​to-​face. Surprisingly, she could see my personality and my life circumstances with great clarity.
When that part of our appointment was complete, we got down to fragrances. I knew what I had come for, but I wanted to see if she would suggest the same one she did when we met that day at the Chocolate Salon. She picked out three; the first was Sottile, the second was U4EAHH! and the third was Ginger Ciao. Interesting. She said Sottile was good for me because I think so much. It also has something to do with the chakra with which it resonates.
I was also able to get my friend squeezed in for an appointment right after my own. After her aura reading she was recommended U4EAHH! first (which, I think, is a perfect fit for her sweet, vibrant personality), and White Flowers second (which has the same floral notes as the fragrances she typically chooses for herself). The sample of U4EAHH! she had on her wrist evolved into something more mature and elegant than any of us expected. Yosh described it as a caramel note. Whatever it is, I’m jealous.
I can’t really complain though, because Sottile smells just as lovely on me in a very different way. I actually feel a little special having something personally chosen for me by a well known perfumer. I even have the signed box to prove it!

Yosh is an amazing person and her fragrances are as wonderful and transcendent as she is. If you ever get to meet her I guarantee you will leave the experience a changed person.
My personal favorite scent is U4EAHH! It is absolutely euphoric and everytime I wear it I feel a sense of happiness come over me. One day I will make an appointment and have a fragrance custom made for me… one day…

i will leave seriously leave the house without underwear on before i leave the house without perfume on. take a visit to france, they are way obsessed as well– it’s so fucking romantic i can barely stand it. i discovered yosh about three years ago when i tried «sotille» with it’s ladylike notes of tea rose and lily of the valley. i bought a bottle, wore it home and immediately my man buried his face into my neck and twirled me in a circle like something from a 50’s movie. Yosh is amazing, She is nothing short of a scent genius. Her gift of how to realize a concept in the form of a smell, is incredible. Forget commercial perfumes, everyone deserves at least one bottle of this liquid treasure. Artists like Yosh are a rare find, and her perfumes are transcendental. Whatever you taste, she will be able to match you with just the right scent. You need not fly to Paris and get major attitude from some snooty perfumer when you can get something truly enchanting right here in your own back yard. Once you smell her perfumes, you will wonder how you ever lived life without it?

I wanted to treat myself to a special gift so when I saw an article about Yosh in a magazine, I thought this would be the perfect thing! Unfortunately, Yosh’s customization is way out of my price range, however, she graciously spent a lot of time talking to me about her sessions and even recommended a list of other perfumers in my price range to contact. I ended up picking up her Sweet Suite kit which I love! Looking forward to the day when I can splurge on a personalized session with Yosh!

So, I’ve been asked this one before — what do I get someone who has everything? Well, if they have everything then the one thing they probably don’t have is something that hasn’t been created before — their own perfume. And that’s when I tell them about Yosh.
Personally, I’ve gone through my — what’s my perfume? — stage. And I still have more than enough bottles of perfume to prove it. But someone gave me Yosh’s Luxury Elements collection and told me about her service of creating your own fragrance — which I personally am still dreaming of doing someday. So, I tell people about her, hoping that they will do it, and so that I, happily, can watch them go through the process. And, hopefully, they will let me give my opinion so that when someone asks them what they are wearing, I can say, — yes, I told them that lovely fragrant footnote was a good idea, wasn’t it? Sigh.

Yosh hosted a women’s mentoring event for my law firm last night and it was fabulous! There was sparkling wine, a chocolate truffle tasting, and best of all, she walked us through a sampling of all six of her Luxury Elements perfume collection. It was like a workout for our noses! Warning: once meeting Yosh and hearing her talk about her custom made perfumes, you will begin longing for the day when you’re ready to spend the $ 500 to get your own (and dreaming about what you’ll name it).

Yosh is a fragrance goddess. And though she’s been getting plenty of national press, we’ve got the woman herself right here in San Francisco. Her Luxury Elements collection is a wardrobe of amazing scents — which she presents in a flight, like a flight of wine — genius! I have delicous Ginger Ciao, which if I recall correctly, is kind of like the Pinot Noir of perfume. Rumor has it she’ll also present a flight of wines AND a flight of chocolates with her flight of fragrances — making it a sensory extravaganza!
