The place is definitely not very clean, but the food is pretty decent. They have a lot of items that’s not available in your run of the mill taqueria. I had the banana leaf tamale and the noodle soup. The tamale wasn’t good, it was too dry and bland. The soup was really good, though. Great flavor and the meat was tender and the veggies soft but not too mushy. It’s a bit on the fatty side, but super filling and feels so homey.

Close to almost 100% Yucatan style with some variations didn’t go heavy on the black beans in Panuchos turkey was tasty with the escabeche(purple onions) they put chile jalapeño but mother who is from Yucatan never put chile except for the habanero there was plenty of that in a jar. No wifi, no cards, no fried plantains another day I will have to try more items on their menu

Delicious. Family-owned Mexican restaurant. The Real Deal. This is a legit place to get inexpensive and delicious foods from Yucatan. The service is fast and so friendly, it will make you smile. The empanadas were huge and had a variety of toppings to choose from. We had a hungry crew and ended up ordering so much food from the menu that we didn’t have enough room on the table for everything. I had a tamale with chicken and cheese and it was incredible. The red sauce on top of it added an extra layer of divine comfort to the dish. I also ordered the pork chop, which had a delicious rub on it that weirdly enough reminded me of German wiener schnitzel. You made the right decision if you order a horchata to wash down the flavor. It cooled the spice while adding a good refreshing break from the delicious foods. This place doesn’t have a scene or amazing ambiance. But if food is queen then you will not be disappointed.

Zero stars. The BF and I were in the mood for hole in the wall mexican, somewhere we hadn’t been in the mission. Went to oaxaquena and they were randomly closed. So we walked into Yucatasia hoping to find some divey cheap deliciousness, and it literally smelled like we had walked into a port-o-potty on a humid day, mixed with dishwasher smell. Absolutely horrid. I have NOIDEA how people were sitting in there eating. Maybe there was a sewage leak on the block and that’s why oaxaquena was closed? If I were a restaurant owner, I’d rather close down my restaurant for the day and fix the Poop Particulates in the air, rather than have 1st time customers come in and have their nostrils assaulted with such putrid, fecal stenches. NEVERAGAIN. Don’t do it, who knows what else is going on there. Off day or not, it was the the grossest«restaurant» I’ve ever experienced.

Okay so I’ll admit this place doesn’t look the cleaniest but the food is pretty good and the price is great! I don’t know how authentic this place is for Latin American food given I grew up eating Chinese food but its definitely not a panda express. I got a beef tongue taco and a salbute de cochinita. The beef tongue taco was really good. I’ve never had beef tongue melt in my mouth before but this was cooked really well. Plus the homemade flour tortilla was so soft and delicious. The salbute de cochinita was something I’ve never had before but basically the shell of the taco is a little thicker and deep fried/fried. It was good! My friend ordered the torta poc chuc which is Banh mi bread with Latin American food in it. I had a bite and it was pretty delicious. My friend said he liked it. The bill for all our food came out to $ 12. Cash only.

This is seriously the most underrated Taqueria in the mission. Their pok chuc tacos are incredible and are made with handmade tortillas. Their food is fresh delicious and cheap. Anytime you’re in the mood for tacos, give this place a try. It’s a great little hole in the wall.

I drive for 1 hour to eat cochinita pibil, as I had read excellent reviews. Here the cochinita pibil is the worst I’ve ever had, tasteless and greasy. Who never in his life has eaten cochinita pibil please dont think cochinita pibil sucks like in this place.

Yeah this place was kinda gross. I didn’t have a horrible experience but the food wasn’t very palatable. The place isn’t very clean either. Although cheap, I don’t know if a lot of people would find this place any better than I did. I was hoping for a hole in the wall experience given that I’ve tried almost everything on mission. And the consequences of trying holes in the wall are such.

Time: 2:17pm/66°F partly sunny Purpose: Leaving work early for the second day in a row. Friend in east bay ask if I can stop by 4505 Meat for Steph Curry sausages. Gladly oblige and stumbled upon Yucatasia on the way. Feeling a craving for Yucatan bites. Why not? Ambiance: Small less than average size place with 40 seats. Candy red walls with matching chairs/tables in a dimly lit place, feels weird. Anymore red you might as well get ready for Valentine’s day. Really cramp as tables/chairs are so close next to each other you’ll end up bumping your neighbors chair. Not ideal for large groups. Décor are so forgettable you’ll think this place was in alleyway. Only bright light comes from TV, 4ft tube lights and cold beverage fridge. Didn’t even see a counter. In short, a place to come by yourself for a quick bite, but don’t mind the lackluster ambiance. Nothing worth taking up space on phone to snap pictures of. Staff: Short Hispanic lady with rows of silver teeth. Looks piss off when I walk in. I sat there while she pass by with menu on hand for table next to me. Raise my hand with finger pointed downwards like right here, me too. She came over drops menu at eye level high with gush of air flowing towards me. Not good impression. Cleanliness: Grade D, place is not a good example how a business should be run. Unopen case beverages stack in front on walkway. Must walk zigzagging getting to makeshift counter. The chairs had oil markings as I sense place wasn’t up to par. I did a wipe down and found oil stains. Uncovered condiments of sauce is unacceptable, even in third world countries. One sneeze or someone with bad intentions will make others health in jeopardy. Eats/Drinks: #19 torta poc chuc $ 6. Listed made with grilled pork. I tasted something else mixed in. Some pieces of meat were tough and some needed seasonings. The bread is what made me cringed. Nothing special about it, basically a baguette made for banh mi use here. It was untoasted with soft lining and chewy. They have four ovens from previous pizza business. Could’ve just pop in oven and toast it. Fixings were OK for the most part, but BREAD needs to go. Afterwards thinking I just pay $ 6 for a banh mi only made with a twist here? Not a good bargain here. Menu show posted prices over the years each cross out with increase. Be warn!!! Products/Services: Poc chuc, padado frito, chocolomo, puchero, escabeche, carnitas, pollo horneado, tacos, tortas, tamales, panucho, salbute, empanadas, assorted cold/hot drinks, sides. Main Features: Tortas and salbute touts their best items here. Punch Lines: Close-together table, harried staff, lackluster ambiance, plain décor, zippy service, snooty service, off putting, nothing out of the ordinary, shoe box size place, a twist on traditional favorites, attitude at the door, sleeper, quite bland, not as great, go elsewhere, street parking, Muni bus, minutes to Bart. Tradeoffs: Despite Yuca as the first half of business name. Don’t let it fool you, its not what it sounds like. You’re getting food with a twist of Vietnamese/Mexican. Final Thoughts: I personally don’t like being rush here. Seems like a place understaff that wants to make as much profit as possible regardless of what it takes. Come if you want a bite without breaking your budget and close to what street vendors serves. Other than that go elsewhere for tortas made with the right kind of bread. Here’s a suggestion for the next place, if there should be one. Name it Mexasia this way people will get the idea. Don’t name it one way then offer food in another.

All I got to say is I’m impressed and happy to find a restaurant thats authentic food from Yucatan. Ordered 2 panuchos with carne asada that were beyond delicious and a carnitas torta that was one of my top favorite tortas I’ve ever eaten in the city. Definitely coming here again! And you won’t find any places with authentic taste at the lowest price possible.

SOGOODMUSTTRYPANUCHOS dare say it better than tacos. Also if you order the cheese empanada it’s basically the Yucatanian version of pizza so… take that as you will. :) :) :) YEEEEEE.

I was worried about the hygiene of the place due to some other reviews but as soon as I tried the food all my caution went out the window. The food was great and VERY authentic(I lived in Mexico several years and grew up eating Yucatecan food). I can’t wait to try some of the other SF restaurants that offer Yucantecan food but for the price and deliciousness factor I definitely see myself going back to Yucatasia! I tried the empanadas, cochinita pibil, and tamales – they were great!

I went in here on my first trip to the Mission district, looking for authentic Latin American food. It’s walking distance from the BART station. I loved it! It’s a tiny local restaurant, cash only, but the food was great. The corn tamales are very different from any of the tamales I’ve had in the past though. They had more of a gelatin or pudding consistency, rather than the cornmeal consistency that I’m used to. However, this may be due to regional cuisine differences in preparing tamales. Reminded me of the delicious Latin American restaurants in my hometown in NJ. The service was also very friendly. And so cheap too! I had a big filling lunch for $ 7. I’d definitely go back.

Still bomb. $ 10 for 3 Panuchos and a Mexican Coca Cola(Medio litro). That’s how you survive in the Mission.

Food was good. Not amazing, but definitely worth coming to every so often. One of my favorite things about this is how awesome their prices are. The Inca Cola was super cheap: D. I left as a happy camper with a full stomach. You won’t be disappointed.

I must have ordered all the wrong things. The tamale tasted weird it was really soft and fluffy and I have never had an issue with foods cooked in banana leaves but this tamale tasted very verdant and tea-like. Not in a good way… I can’t remember what the chicken dish I got was called but it wasn’t good, it was bone-in chicken stewed in a thin watery broth with chunks of stewed tomatoes and onions, quite bland and really watery. I would have done better eating it with a spoon. The rice was just white rice and the beans are a thin black bean purée that could literally be called a soup and it would be an appetizing soup! But again, I needed a spoon to eat them. Lastly the tortillas had a weird flavor too, similar to the banana leaf flavor. The icing on the cake was the waitress who have awful service. Will not return.

A touch of grunge, but I’ve had consistently tasty meals here, all at a very affordable price point. You can get a whole fried fish here for $ 11. Perfect crunchy skin, soft chunks of fish, and plenty of pickled onions and sides to accompany it. Not much sauce on this, but get the chicken mole($ 9) for ample brown sauces to drown the rice and thick housemade tortillas. The carnitas($ 9) were also solid here, big chunks of oink oink with avocado slices. Never a wait, and plenty of neighborhood folks in here! Cash only.

If I tell you I couldn’t find the Asian side of things, it wouldn’t be the first time in my life that I’ve said that. Guess that’s what makes me a banana… yellow on the outside and… well, you know the rest. Anyway, I only saw the Yucatecan side as I was perusing the four-page menu. There is mention of a «deli & sandwich» on the front signage, so I assume they make banh mis somewhere back in the mystery kitchen. Since it was my first visit there, I thought I should just stick with what was in print and not go out on a high wire. Meanwhile, a young pre-adolescent girl at the next table was moaning discernibly. I was worried it was food poisoning, but it turned out she had earbuds on and was singing(sorta) to the music from her laptop. It was close to 8PM when I got there, and it looked like they were getting ready to close shop but not quite. I first ordered the $ 10 Poc Chuc thinking this may be the house specialty, but the waitress came back from the kitchen and told me they were out. I then tried to order the $ 8.50 Chuleta de Puerca(Pork Chop) and again she came back, apologized profusely as she said they were out of that, too. OK then, how about the $ 8 Carnitas? At last, something they were willing to make. The modest plate came out, and there was a mound of fried pork, some lettuce covered with avocado slices and a fresh tomato sauce. Black beans were served in a bowl, and the warm flour tortillas were wrapped in a red towel on another plate(see photo). She asked me if I wanted rice to which I affirmed yes, that would be nice. Now the Asian side kicked in since it wasn’t the orange Mexican kind I was expecting but the white kind scooped in a bowl. It reminded me of the kind of street food you could get from a cart at a festival in Mérida. Not a bad thing especially since the tortillas tasted homemade. It’s no dining destination — but it’ll do in a pinch. FOOD — 3 stars… street cart-level food… OK but… AMBIANCE — 2 stars… not the cleanest-looking place but they appear to try SERVICE — 3.5 stars… friendly though a tad paranoid when they saw me taking photos TOTAL — 3 stars… not a standout in the Mission but decent enough for a fast meal
