Eye Care Optometry Of San Gabriel

My review is based upon MY experience today.
I have been looking for a new optometrist for a couple years now. I normally go to Linden’s Opt in Pasadena. Although I like the variety of lenses/​frames that they carry, I find myself being rushed or not fully examined properly for how packed it gets there. Sometimes it even takes an hour in the waiting room before seeing a doctor.
Well, I asked a couple of friends of mine if they knew of good eye doctors and one told me about this location. I seen the reviews on Unilocal and figured I should give it a try.
I came in and was automatically greeted politely and right away. While waiting on the optometrist, a lady went and approached me to see if I would like to see frames in the mean time. Which by the way she was very helpful and nice.
Once I saw Dr. Chang, he gave a warm welcome and right away was asking what’s wrong and examining my eyes. Explained everything in detailed and if I needed help in the future with an eye problem I have, To go ahead and visit him right away. I never once felt rushed, was always asked if I had more questions. I was helped from the moment I walked in to the moment I cashed out.
I got to say I was very pleased and impressed with the whole experienced. Will definitely continue to come here.

Arrived 15 minutes before the store opened/​my appointment and yet they were already opened for business. The receptionist immediately greeted me, began checking me in, and verifed my insurance in no-​time (insurance verification process was easy peasy). About 5 minutes in, Dr. Chang was ready to see me. The doc was professional, patient, and personable. I was then sent to select a frame and to get fitted. The frame specialist was insightful and patient with my particulars (didn’t get her name but kudos to her). Went in expecting another whatever experience at the optometrist but walked out satisfied with the doc, the receptionist, and the frame specialist. A very atypical visit to the optometrist needless to say. Overall, a very positive experience.

Love this place! Everyone is so amazing; they took the time to help me find the best glasses for me which meant trying on over a dozen pairs (I even had a peanut gallery with everyone’s input because I’m horrible at decisions). Will definitely come back for all eye related needs!

So, I had gotten an eye exam at another optometrist the day before visiting Eye Care Optometry of San Gabriel. I came here to get my prescription filled because the other place was a tad bit too expensive. I came on a Friday morning and was promptly helped (there was no other customers, but still). I was asked what kind of frame I would like and was given quite a decent selection to choose from.
After picking out a frame that I liked, the gentleman that was helping me, ran me through my prescription and the different options available for the lenses. Next, I was fitted for the frames and I was asked to put a deposit on my glasses. He said that he would have my glasses ready in about a week.
I arrived at about 11 AM and was out of the office within half an hour.
Today, I received a phone call from the office notifying me that my glasses are ready for pickup. I was pretty surprised as I was quoted for a wait time of 1 week. So, I went to pick up my glasses just now and they’re pretty much perfect.
Overall, the customer service here was excellent. You get a decent selection of frames to choose from (Don’t forget to check-​in on Unilocal to get 30% off frames). Definitely check this place out if you’re in the market for a new set of eyeglasses.

I highly recommend Dr. Chang’s office. I’ve been coming here for the last 3 years and have always received the best service from him and his team. No matter how busy, everyone is so welcoming, personable, patient (I think I tried at least 20 different frames lol) & efficient. On top of that my glasses are always ready before the estimated date. I have moved to Fontana a year ago but I still come back to do business here. Thank you Eye Care Optometry of San Gabriel!

This review is from a 1^st-​time, cash-​paying customer looking for contact lenses.
My eyes are terrible to fit for contact lenses: I have bad astigmatism, moderate (to severe) dry eye, and a history of giant papillary conjunctivitis to previous contacts. Thus, for the past couple years, I have mostly been wearing glasses. Deciding I’d see if there have any improvements in daily contact lens products for the dry eye wearer, I scheduled an appointment at Eye Care Optometry after shopping around for a couple places.
Prices: $ 95 for regular OR $ 110 for toric/​astigmatism contact lens fitting exams. Calling around a few places, the price of the exam for this place is pretty standard-​low compared to other businesses in the area.
Parking: Easy private lot or street parking
The Office: Clean, well lit, display cases organized, frames presented well and not cluttered.
The Office Staff: Pleasant and kind. I have usually only seen 1 person at the front, on occasion 2. If there are many customers at a time, that 1 person has to handle both intake as well as questions about trying on frames/​item sales. Keep this in mind as you may need to be patient before being helped.
The Doctor: Dr. William Chang, a graduate of Penn College of Optometry, is tall, impeccably dressed, and has an air of efficient professionalism that is refreshing. He did a very thorough refraction to get the absolute best prescription for me. He had me try a couple different brands, the best one being Dailies Aquacomfort Plus + Toric. He was honest about his own contact lens use and discussed options/​habits of contact lens wear. He scheduled me for 2 total follow-​ups after the initial visit before settling on the final prescription for me. He has excellent people skills and I was not in any time put in a high-​pressure sales situation.
Bottom line: Recommend this place if you are looking for a new optometrist

Dr. Chang and his staff are amazing!
I came in for an eye glasses and contacts exam. Dr. Chang gave me a 2 week sample of regular month contacts and a week supply of daily contacts to try out before I made my decision about which contacts I wanted. Everyone here was so helpful.
I’m the type of person that needs nurturing and care from my doctors and I’m so satisfied with coming here! :)

Best optometry office I’ve been to. Staff and Dr. are very nice, efficient, and helpful. The receptionist was super helpful and honest when helping me pick out glasses. I love the pair she helped me pick out. Love their glasses selection. Dr. was great. I will definitely be back for future vision exams.

My last visit to the optometrist was a full eight years ago after getting Lasik done, so I was truthfully lost and confused on where to get my eye examined since I’ve noticed that my vision has started to blur and fatigue after a long day at work, boy am I glad that Unilocal has done a great job again by referring me to Dr. Chang and his staff… I mean the guy has over 130 Unilocal reviews and is still able to maintain a 5 star rating, that’s pretty impressive based on my Unilocaling experiences.
Dr. Chang tested my eyes using 3 different machines, one for focus, second for eye pressure (darn…I hated the puff of air since I was kid and I still hate it), and third was a new machine that takes X-​rays of your eyes, no dilation needed unless the result are abnormal (score!).
Afterwards, Dr. Chang asked me to read the alphabet chart using different lenses, so it turns out my near-​sightedness has returned, henced the blurriness… which is normal after 5 – 7 years after Laser eye surgery… oh well…
Overall I found the process efficient and professional. Dr. Chang is very knowledgable and thorough. His staff is friendly and helpful. There is also a good selection of frames to pick from brand names to alternative brands, depending on your budget. Highly recommended place to get your glasses or contacts and of course your eyes examined!

I am literally sitting in my car, right outside the office writing this review. I came to this location (Thanks Unilocal!) after having a falling out with my regular optometrist with little expectations.
Basic eye exam right? What could really go wrong?
Well, Dr. Chang and his staff are AMAZING! I was immediately greeted by Jeanette, as soon as I walked in the door. She gave me my intake paperwork which was then processed by Michelle. Finally Dr. Chang (total hottie btw!!) calls me in and since I have my 7 year old with me, Dr. is ok with him coming into the exam room with me (major plus!). He was very accommodating and such a peoples person. Very good vibes all around. So, my exam concludes (bummer, since the conversation was great!) and I am then taken care of by Billy. Billy thoroughly explained what is covered by my insurance and what I would be paying out of pocket. He then showed me a couple of frames but I ultimately went with the one I first picked out. He was great! I am extremely satisfied with the way the staff treated me. Not once did I feel rushed or pressured into going for the higher priced frames/​lenses as I did at my previous optometrist office. If you’re a first timer looking for an eye doctor or maybe making the switch to a new one, I highly recommend Dr. Chang. He’s so awesome that I will willingly make the drive from LA to SGV just for his service.

Dr Chang and Staff were super! From setting the appt to the actual checkup, they were professional and courteous. I highly recommend everybody to check them out. Won’t be disappointed. I brought my wife and 2 kids to get a checkup. He was very great with our kids. They were very nervous before the exam but Dr Chang was very good with them and made them comfortable. They also gave us an awesome deal for our glasses.

Called in for an appointment for new glasses and contact lenses they gave us the best deal the possibly could and had really good recommendations on what was best for us not trying to sell us anything more than that would totally reccomend this place to everyone!

I’ve been coming here for about a year now and it’s the best optometry I’ve ever been to! Great selection of frames, helpful staff, and a very efficient + accommodating Dr. Chang.

First time customer of Eye Care Optometry.
RECEPTIONISTS: The front desk team was warm and friendly. The lady in the front helped explain my VSP benefits and what would be covered under insurance. She was patient when I was browsing their wide selection of frames (they have Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Prada, D&G, and many other beautiful designer frames). She even picked out several frames for me to try on and gave her her honest option when a frame didn’t fit my face well. Every frame that she liked on me, I liked as well! She has a great eye.
DR. CHANG: So friendly and professional! I felt like he was genuinely interested in what I had to say and addressed all my questions/​concerns. After completing an eye exam, he gave me a pair of trial contacts and then continued to examine if they were right for me. We must have gone through several pairs in that first appointment alone before he sent me home with a trial pair.
A week later, I was scheduled for a follow up appointment to ensure they were working for me. Then he had me follow up TWO MORE TIMES before finalizing my prescription. Who does that? I’ve never had optometrist care about my vision and comfort as much as he has. Any little complaint or discomfort I had with my contacts, he jotted down notes and was quick to tweak my prescription until I was 100% satisfied. He never demonstrated any frustration or annoyance with the process — he was always so welcoming and happy to help me out. In the end, I ended up with contacts that I absolutely love and I CAN FINALLY SEE. Amazing service.
SUMMARY: Dr. Chang is the best optometrist I’ve ever had, and he is completely deserving of his ⁵⁄₅ star rating on Unilocal!SERIOUSLY. I cannot rave about him enough.

Finally came by to get my eyeballs checked by Dr. Chang! I made an appointment for a Saturday morning check up with Dr.Chang. So last time I got my eyes checked was 2007… I know, a long time ago. You know when you skip a couple years and then you kinda feel embarrassed when they ask, «when was the last time you had your eyes checked?» So it was easier for me to just not go at all.
But … since my husband needed new glasses I figured that I should get mine checked too. So we headed over … easy peasy …
1. Parking: easy … small little lot in the plaza and if that gets crowded then there is easy street parking nearby.
2. Filled out simple form and waited for Dr. Chang
3. Had some puffs in my eyes for pressure checking.
4. Dr. Chang then made me look at little letters and he checked out my eyeballs!
5. Then I done… super fast and super easy.
Good news is … my eyes are still good! Yeah… but he did warn me about some sun damage and how I should be careful.
Thanks a bunch to Dr. Chang! See you next year… and I promise to get my eyes checked yearly. No more 8 year wait.

This is my first time here, but I can tell Dr. Chang really cares about your eyes, and he tries to answer all of your questions and concerns. I came in to have an eye exam since I haven’t had one in 4 – 5 years and lately my prescription glasses is not working perfectly.
Staffs were friendly, quick and attentive. And I also got a 30% discount for my new glasses, which is a plus! xD

Eye can’t recommend Dr. Chang Enough! I discovered his lovely store while out and about with my lady. It had been a good decade since I had seen a optometrist so I figured I might as well give Dr. Chang a try.
He is very kind, professional, and thorough. His prices are really good and he is very knowledgeable.

Appointment was painless and hassle free — I was able to call in and got a same-​day appointment and the staff was able to quickly check my VSP (vision insurance) eligibility over the phone.
Excellent service and the staff even took the time to explain different types of VSP. Their superb service is the biggest reason why you should be coming here for an eye exam (5 BIG stars). However … as much as I hate to say this, but this place has limited frame selection comparing with Golden San Gabriel Optometric Vision Center (which has more frames to choose from, but offers terrible service). In addition, Fundus Photography service isn’t available at this moment.
Coming here is a bit like going to a tiny restaurant with 3.5-star food quality, but you get an OUTSTANDING service. If you are looking for a simple routine exam, then I strongly recommend this place. I am a fan of Eye Care Optometry Of San Gabriel and I still prefer this place over Golden San Gabriel Optometric Vision Center anytime of the day.

Dr Chang is AMAZING!!! New frames and lenses in 24 hours!
I came in to see Dr Chang after someone stepped on my glasses. I walked in the next morning to a smiling staff. After a quick checkup I went to choosing some frames.
I wanted something like my Tom Ford frames but have no brand loyalty. Billy and Dr Chang helped me see some different options in Oliver Peoples and Paul Smith. They were very patient and made lots of suggestions based on my feedback with each pair.
After about 20minutes I narrowed it down to my final decision: an acetate Paul Smith frame. Now for the good stuff!
I paid for my order and left that Wednesday morning with news that my glasses should be ready by the end of the week. It is less than 24 hours later and I have my new frames on my face as I type!
This is an amazing establishment with dedicated professionals who care about their clients! I am a returning client and will be as long as the doors open for me!

After the mishap with my other optometrist, I have been searching for a really good one. I’m picky and that’s an understatement. lol I came in today for an exam and now I can see. I was even late due to traffic and they were so understanding. He is goes above and beyond to care for his patients. I have a follow-​up next week
