Came back again. Experience was just as pleasant, Akane was just as professional, atmosphere is just as nice as the first time I came, if not better. Always looking forward to my haircut session now.
Came by couple times with no appointment and sometimes when it’s not busy they’ll sit you right away but if they’re busy the wait could get long, so recommend making a reservation ahead of time.

Lucy was very sweet and did a great job on my hair. I am very happy with her service and the place was very trendy with nice music playing in the background. I would recommend this place!

My wife and I both came here for service. I had a shampoo and haircut and my wife a hair coloring and trim. I was simply blown away by the quality of service we received. Lucy, the stylist who worked with both of us, spent over an hour on each of us, carefully and meticulously styling our hair. I have never encountered such dedicated and tireless service before and the results were spectacular. My wife’s hair is colored and styled perfectly and my trim is spot on. I simply cannot recommend this venue highly enough. Thank you Lucy and the KC team!

So I know some people have had bad experiences before but maaan I am SOOO happy! I got Akane, she’s so sweet, keeps a convo and she did exactly what I asked of her. Definitely coming back! Thank you !

Wow, I never had such service. I got a Groupon deal back in February and waited 2 months to get my straightening service for $ 59. I was so excited because it was right before my birthday and I read such amazing reviews.
I got to the salon and there was only 1 stylist and no customers… ok
I explained him exactly what we’re my concerns were (my ends) and that I had about 6 inch of new growth .
For my surprise he only left the treatment for 2 min before washing off, mind you everywhere else I did it they left it on for like 30 min.
At the end, one of the sides was so damaged, it was curly and fried! And he said, sorry this is not straight. WHAT???
So I left with exactly what I was afraid of ends, about 3 inches were fried. and my hair just didn’t feel like it did after other treatments I did.
After 2 weeks, my wavy hair went completely back to wavy and my ends were still fried, I had to cut it off.
I guess you get what you pay for.
Never ever will I go back to this salon, even if they paid me to do it. It took me months to get my hair to an ok condition to get the treatment done right.

I was displeased at the result of my straightening service ! Stay away from Michael the stylist. He was inexperienced and graduated from college and decided that hairstyling was a side career. I have a lot of thick coarse hair and felt dumb after spending the money at KC Salon on a half ass job !
He kept trying to avoid telling me the managers name (first said no one here), I said there has to be someone in charge. How can that be? If the State. board of Cosmetology walks in someone must be designated in charge according to the laws. Very evasive about information, rolled his eyes look the whole time.
I am not Asian, maybe they give u better service based on your race. No one asked if I would like something to drink, etc. Normally in a private salon, the stylists are asked to go above and beyond for the client but here nothing at all .
You get what u pay for in KC Salon’s case !

I was a groupon customer. Service was ok. Nothing particularly good or bad. I had the Japanese straightening many times in the past, so I am confident to say I have lots of experience. The entire time I stayed at KC salon was 2 hours. In my past experience Japanese straightening takes at least 4 hours to do a good job. The fact that I was out the door in 2 hours was a red flag. So needless to say, my hair was wavy after 2 weeks. Disappointed.

I want to write about my whole experience. If you don’t feel like reading the whole thing, the main idea is:
–I had virgin hair
–I got the Japanese straightening/​haircut groupon
–I am happy with my results
–Akane was awesome.
Before this appointment, I had another one that I made very far in advance (2 weeks or so), but it was cancelled the day before. Which was a bummer because I specifically made it before my vacation so I wouldn’t have to waste time doing my hair, but whatever. What can you do?(The stylist was Gabriel) I can’t hold it against them because things happen and what can you do about it?(It was Gabriel) No hard feelings (Gabriel).
This time, I called and got the soonest appointment I could, which ended up being the next day at 10am. I got there early and no one was there but Akane. I waited around for a while and she said she had a cancellation so she could take me.(which was amazing because where was my stylist?) She asked me some questions and warned me the process would take 3 – 4 hours, which I thought was nice.
She was nice, attentive, and gentle; and didn’t seem mad at all that I had so much hair. Other employees helped out with the chemical application and drying, which was not a problem because I have a lot of hair. They were all really nice and seemed skilled, so I feel like all the stylists there must be good.(Now that Daniel’s gone) She gave me a good cut, lightening the load of my hair.(Thank goodness) I actually finished sooner than I thought I would.
She asked me not to wash my hair for 48 – 60 hours, which I was surprisingly able to do. Sleeping was scary, I slept on my back with my hair split in the back and down my shoulders. It was manageable, but really, 2 days of bad sleep was worth it. The hardest part was not pushing my hair behind my ears! When I finally washed, I used Loreál’s new hydrating shampoo and conditioner. The results were exactly what I wanted. It dries straight, but can still hold a curl or wave when I want it to. What I really needed was hair that smooths after washing, and there’s no better feeling than not having to incorporate an hour before leaving time because you have to iron your hair.

1^st impression is very crucial! I just came in today with my son, but no one notice us, every body seems very busy! Not even look at us, after we stand still a couple minutes I decided to walk out. You just loosing a customer!

I came here for the $ 65 one color process groupon offered online. When I called, they asked me not to purchase the groupon and instead they’d give me the same deal in the salon (to avoid giving groupon a percentage.) When I got there, the small salon had a very unpleasant smell. I showed them what I’d like, he said it would be the $ 85 valued groupon.
I then sat down with a male hair stylist that did not speak English well at all and had even a harder time understanding what I was asking for.
I showed my stylist the picture of what I’d like and tried to explain to him that I wanted my roots a solid color. What I asked for was a dark root ombré.
He proceeded to dye my roots darker, wash it out, THEN bleach the majority of my hair, washed, cut, and did a bad job of curling it. When he showed me the results, I had only looked at the exterior look of my hair, and I liked it.
When I proceeded to check out, my total was about $ 127, keep in mind this is $ 47 more than discussed when I got there. He had asked me if I wanted to add toner because it would look better but failed to mention the price addition. I generously gave him a $ 15 tip and left.
Once I got into the car and had good lighting I checked out my hair really well. I looked beneath the first layer of my hair to see that I had PINK hair. (I had requested dark roots that blend into a blond color as in the pictures below) I knew that the stylist probably wouldn’t get it perfect but this was ridiculous. I didn’t want to go back inside to discuss this with the stylist because he would not understand me and I’m fairly young so I felt they might take advantage of my age and ignorance so I let my mother call. I am upset because I was spoiling myself before my birthday that’s in few days and I’m left with unevenly dyed, pink hair.
At this point I was on my way home on an empty tank after paying far more than I had expected. I have an appointment for a fix by another stylist at the same salon to avoid a dispute, I will keep this post updated.

After reading some earlier reviews, I noticed there was a trend going on with Daniel doing the hair straightening. I am also a Groupon customer ($ 79, straightening and haircut). I made an appointment a month early for May 24^th at 2PM. The day before, I was called and asked whether I wanted to move it early due to some canceling. Sure, 11AM would do.
Arriving, an Asian lady (Jessica) took my Groupon number and looked at my hair. I haven’t dyed it in over a year, but the ends were dead. Started with a hair wash and I believe she cut off 2 or 2.5 inches first.
As that was going on, I received a text from Daniel who was supposed to do my hair straightening saying that he was not feeling well and he’d have to reschedule me. What? I was already there under another stylist and replied back that another stylist is doing it for me.
As for Jessica, I thought she was a great stylist! Many other girls did not like Daniel and I think they would appreciate a review of another stylist.
*Pointers*
*She was very gentle with my hair during the entire process.
*My haircut was very simple (long layers) and just as I wanted.
*Straightening was a success. First timer!
*Small talk was fun.
*Gave me a cup of water when I was coughing a little bit.

KERATIN STRAIGHTENING DID NOT WORK!
Service:
–Easy appointment scheduling… they said they are always free
–Daniel in San Gabriel location did my hair:
—Suggested not to do the Japanese Hair Straightening due to my past ombré (bleached hair) and instead suggestion the Keratin Straightening (or else the bleach and the Japanese chemical straightening will break my hair)
—Did it work? NOPE. Followed all instructions (no washing for 3 days, straighten, non-​sulfite shampoo and conditioning)
—Keratin straightening: WORST PAIN EVER. I have done Japanese straightening and all the bleach, treatments and etc before and yes I know hair pain but Daniel was NOT GENTLE AT ALL. OMG I jerked in and out and he was like «STAY STILL». THE HELL YOU ARE BURNING MY SCALP AND EAR. I understand the process is to blow dry and straighten the treatment off your hair but the iron and blowdryer burned so bad, I asked him not to go to close to my ear but I ended up getting a slight BURN on my EAR. I told him that was the worst PAIN ever. And he justify he NEEDED TO. I think you were just in a hurry for your next customer…
–WORST PART EVER: he looked for the «keratin straightening iron» to use on me… this DIRTY ASS IRON… that the PLATE BROKE OFF AND FELL ON MY FACE…
1.) That iron is yes an OG iron… I had that same salon iron in freshmen year of high school 2005. He said its an «oldie but goodie»
2.) The FLAT PLATE BROKE TWICE while he was straightening my hair… FELL ON MY FACE… and then he put it back and CONTINUED to use it
3.) When I suggested the NEW SAME STRAIGHTENING IRON IN FRONT OF US… he said NO because he is suppose to use this OLDER IRON for those with the treatment hair. CHEAP NO?
–Another problem… Daniel had an assistant (young asian man) who he treated POORLY. I overheard him say to the assistant «who do you think is going to do it, you the assistant or me the person with 5 years of experience. YOU’RE MY ASSISTANT» Okay we get it boss. But you got two customers here that heard you speak pretty ugly. It makes us regret giving business to an UGLY business. Please respect your assistant too. He was so embarrassed when I went to my car it seem like he was about to shed a tear
–REFUNDED. In the end yes I did request for a refund because it didnt work. They did not want to give it to me but they did after talking to the boss. I really thank them for that but I could still not accept not letting my fellow Unilocalers get the heads up.
—They asked if I wanted to do the Japanese Straightening again… WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU DIDNT BEFORE. Oh i know because you said my hair will break off! why are you recommending it now? Because I’m complaining?
—They asked if I wanted to do another Keratin treatment. Girl you should know better that you cant do another treatment that soon. You just don’t want me to complain): but you should look out for the customer right? You were going to break off my hair –_​– after we did this entire treatment to prevent that…
Im sorry KC salon to give this bad review. I thank you for the refund but really you should have asked me about why I was complaining and please think about new management to better your customer satisfaction. That HOT PLATE IRON breaking off while on my hair, falling on my face and refusing to use a different iron was not pleasant. The burn on my ear after warning him how close that iron and blowdryer heat was to my ear wasn’t pleasant either.
My hair was just damaged, frizzy and nothing straight. Worse than my wavy hair before.
Ladies, refund the groupon. We got ripped off.

Like many others I purchased the groupon for the Japanese hair straightening. My mother also purchased the deal and I also referred a friend who got in on the deal as well. I had such a great experience at their sister salon in Pasadena, and after almost two years my hair really needed to be redone. So the story goes… first strike, trying to get an appointment, or better yet trying to get someone to even answer the phone. After finally reaching someone after three days I got an appointment for a month out. Wasn’t too thrilled about that.
Strike two, the process… I’ve had this treatment done a handful of times in my day and when done right, I’m a happy customer. This time was really different. Arrived at my 10am appt and it was just me and my stylist. I think his name may have been Daniel. He started right away which was great but the process was a bit off. He looked at my hair and didn’t say much. I actually did the talking. I explained that I had the treatment done before but it had been close to two years ago. He didn’t do any type of strand testing or even asked if I had dyed my hair.
Long story short, the end result was not what not what I had experienced in the past. The very last step they have always flat ironed my hair. He didn’t not and it was actually a little damp when I walked out. My hair usually dries straight without frizzy, but not this time around. Oddly enough, my mom who had the same person had the same result. And it was her very first time doing the treatment. The friend I referred luckily had a very good outcome but also had a different stylist. Her hair process was very different than mine and my mothers. She even said they gave her a punch card with the grantee price touch ups. We didn’t get that.
Looks like this particular stylist needs to have some extra training or stop being lazy and proceed with ALL the correct steps. And the kicker was without even saying who this particular stylist was, my friend went and she mentioned how there was a male stylist there who was working on a lady who also had a different (no so good) outcome. Beware of who your booked with!

Thanks Daniel for murdering my hair. I will never go to a salon again. Traumatized. Everyday will be a nightmare until my hair starts to grow back into some kind of normality.
Unilocal won’t let me say so little so let’s go into detail.
I got there about 15 minutes late because I had remembered this place being next to Half&Half but was now across the street. No big deal because my «stylist» was finishing up with his client. He introduced himself and had me wait while he cleaned up after his previous client. I was there for a Japanese permanent straightening and haircut deal for $ 79. He had a hard time finding the broom to sweep up and he was asking the other «stylists» but no one responded to him. There was a lack of unison within the salon and that should have been my first clue. Eventually he found the broom that was right next to one of the other «stylists» who I guess didn’t understand English because he didn’t say anything. We got started and he asked me about my hair. I explained I flat iron my hair every day so I know (and apologized for) the damage. He cut my ends so he wouldn’t have to use more product on my hair which was fine. He said we had to wash my hair even though I had just washed my hair in the morning. It was more like just wetting my hair than washing but no big deal. He started combing my hair pretty roughly but I figured it was because of the damage I did to my hair. He began the process and applied the product to my hair. There was such a strong smell from the product and not much ventilation in the salon so it wasn’t pleasant. He also applied the product in a sloppy manner (for my liking) which bothered me but if I could do it my way, I would do it myself. The product had to set for about 30 minutes although he came back in 10 because I had colored my hair recently, and he said my hair’s elasticity was weak. When he washed my hair, I felt like I was on a water ride. Water splashed all over my face, his hand would rub against my eye and makeup and it all felt very amateur. When he started to blow dry my hair, he started with a small section but right after went onto huge sections where he had to play tug-​o-​war with my hair. I had NEVER had someone handle my hair and head the way he did. I question whether or not he realized I wasn’t one of those fake heads. He burned my right ear at least 3 times with the blow dryer. I would pull away or jerk my head when it got too hot and I would see a smirk on his face. When he plugged in the flat iron, I was terrified (he almost skipped this whole step because he forgot). He dropped his equipment and tools but would just pick them up and keep working on me with them (which is just gross). My haircut was more like a hack job. It is very choppy and he thinned the crap out of it. I am seriously contemplating shaving my head. Thanks again Daniel for the worst experience of my life!

Came here through a Groupon for a Japanese hair straightening treatment. I called for an appointment and they set me up for the next day, which was great. They have two locations. One in San Gabriel and another on dtla. I went to the one in dtla because it was closer to me.
I get there, and the location being in dtla, there was not any parking near the salon. I parked about two blocks away, which charged $ 4 for 3 hours with validation (I got from starbucks)
Ok, so I finally get to the salon (I wish I had my Fitbit on, because it was a lot of walking). Mia was my hair stylist and she sat me down right away. She looked at my hair and discussed with me now the Japanese hair treatment will damage my hair since it was colored and that they did not recommend it. In fact, they said if they were to do it, It would only be half the hair, and the bottom of my hair would not be treated since it would get too damaged. So, I would need to straighten that on my own (on a daily basis). This completely defeated the purpose of this treatment.
Instead, they recommended the Brazilian blowout, which they claimed to be less damaging. With the applied groupon, I would have to pay an extra $ 100.
I went ahead and went with the Brazilian blowout because I was scared of damaging my hair and because I didn’t want to hassle with straightening it myself everyday.
After two hours of the treatment, I was finally done. I really liked the outcome and trust that they told me the truth about the better treatment. Overall, they did a great job, and I like the results. Only downfall is I couldn’t use my groupon and no good parking.

Bought the groupon deal for Japanese hair straightening and haircut. I will say they never pickup the phone because they’re all working, but they will definitely get back to you within the same day.
Setup an appointment but still waited 15 minutes which was no biggy. I was skeptical because the salon was small and I was a groupon customer, but I was pleasantly surprised as my hair turned out just the way I wanted it — straight with a subtly layered cut. The lady who did my hair was attentive the whole time and made sure I liked the outcome.

When you are that good and that busy… it’s kinda common not to respond to phones or reaching their customers if establishment cannot service their customers due to power outage. but KC in temple city is a new estanlishment that I think is still trying to find its loyal customers.
I had to come down there expecting to have my hair done, but regrettably Noone is there. there’s just one freelance guy cutting a lady’s hair and can’t really help me. the wait for my 1^st app was 1.5 hours. that’s crazy. but I thought I want to give my benefit of the doubt that they are that greatt.
well… they are okay.

by the way, my friend got her deal also on the Japanese hair straightening, but after a couple of weeks… u hmmm started to wear off. not sure about the quality that they advertised with this establishment. now I’m beginning to doubt if I shall get my hair done here.

I gave this place a shot because I got a super good deal on Groupon. It was for $ 60 to get your hair straighten. This place is super busy and you will have to call and make an appt. They are booked 2 weeks out usually.
The place is small, it has free wifi, wonderful service. It took them 3 hours to get my hair completely straighten. Very helpful and nice. I would recommend coming here. The place is a little hard to find. Its off of Las Tunas and San Gabriel right off the corner next to the car dealership.
I would come back for sure! Use Groupon!

I came here with my girl friend on Chinese New Year.
It took us almost 2 hours drive from Santa Barbara.
I got Japanese straight hair and my gal just got hair cut.
My stylist Ryo San was very friendly and professional.
I always get a compliment about my hair.
Even my 5yrs old son told me that your hair is so beautiful!

I bought a Japanese straight perm from groupon for $ 59. I was a little skeptical since the price was really cheap but I wanted to try them out. I usually get my hair straightened for around $ 250+.
The Japanese hairstylist guy who worked on my hair was absolutely amazing. He was extremely detail oriented and knew exactly what he was doing. He was so thorough that I think he got every piece of strand on my head. I’m so glad I bought it and I would definitely be back.
