I have seen this joint too many times, especially I am a big fan of Yung Ho across the street (in the same complex). Just that never felt that compelling moment to step inside.
Yesterday, we were early for Lu Din Gee (next door), so we stepped in.
This grocery store prides itself on Shanghainese food, tidbits and such but out of all the stuff they have on the shelves, maybe 50% are actually from Shanghai. They have a selection of frozen dumplings, zong zhi (Chinese sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves).
We bought a drink, two zong zhi and a chili crisp broadbean tidbits filled with MSG. yum!
UPDATE:
The zong zhi are REALLY good. Not that salty and the pork has a little jello fats attached to maintain the moisture inside the sticky rice.

Very small store featuring goods from Shanghai. I went in to check out what they had on offer and found some lovely items which I miss eating from my childhood. However, I debated whether I should buy some of the imported stuff since I was wary of the stuff from China.
The man spoke to me in my dialect, asking me if I was looking for something in particular. I was a bit shocked since usually, people speak Mandarin to you and I was speaking in English to hubby so I was impressed that he knew I was Shanghainese. We ended up buying some Chinese tamales. I wanted to buy the homemade frozen wontons, but we weren’t going home right away and I didn’t want them to thaw out and go bad in this 108 degree weather.
Will report back as to how those tamales taste once we’ve eaten them.
