Alex Gutter Service

I’ve used Alex Gutter twice now, and both experiences were excellent (spring 2015 and January 2016). They quoted me a price for the work, showed up when scheduled, completed the work very well and promptly, and charged the quoted price. Their work is beautifully done — I don’t anticipate needing to replace or repair the downspouts they installed for many years.

DON’T USE ALEX GUTTER!!! Customer service was the worst ever. Response time took weeks, did not show up as scheduled. Would not recommend to anyone.
UPDATE: THIS IS NOT A FALSE REVIEW! I wrote what happened and everything I said occurred. His denial rather than accepting his poor service is another reason not to use Alex gutter.

I would like to reissue my review since me previous Unilocal review. Alex company at first had not come to do the promised work bt afterwards putting my review he contacted my and was able to make it out here in a day after being told he’s booked through the new year. Great work as well service. Understandable that there may have been some miscommunication but overall great work and customer service. If any gutter problems in the future I will most definitely go back to then and recommend them to other clients!

We called Alex gutter to come out and he took forever to contact us, then when I explained the job to him, he gave me a quote. and a schedule to install. I asked that he come out to the job-​site and he declined. When he came out to look, he said he could not do the work it was too small of a job. It took him 3 weeks to respond. I will not recommend these folks for gutter or any work. Too slow to respond and change in scope, they leave and wont do the job.

Just had my gutters repaired by Alex. The work was excellent and the price was reasonable. He and his crew arrived when they said they would, and were in and out quickly. I’m very pleased with the work.

I’m giving 3-​stars for now. But we’ll see when the next rain comes.
I had an appointment at 9AM. And with a newborn, scheduling is critical. This 2-​man crew showed up at 10AM. So right off the bat I was disappointed. I clarified with him what I wanted done. Since they were late, my wife had to leave and I was caring for my newborn. I didn’t supervise or watch what they did.
As far as I know, they went on the roof. they scraped the gutter clean. Then took the hose up to the roof. they came back, packed up their stuff and left. I didn’t get any information about what they did or if my gutter was dirty or if the spout was now draining. I have no idea what they did or if they did anything. I don’t know if they actually fixed the problem.
They did email the invoice and communicated with me that the gutter was quite filled with dirt and that the drain spouts were clear. it doesn’t explain the lateness and the lack of info from the onsite team. It prevents a 5-​star performance.

I’m revising my review of the Alex Gutter service. After having a difficult time with installation of gutters for our house, Alex and his crew came back to address the problem areas with the old installation. The new fix seems solid and professional. We haven’t had the rains to fully test the new gutters but so far so good. Thanks Alex!

Fast scheduling.

Alex Jr. is very professional and easy to work with. Originally I thought the gutter has to be replaced completely. He inspected the gutter carefully and suggested to do a repair instead, which saved me lots of money. The job was done nicely in a timely manner. Alex Gutter is a very trustworthy company I would highly recommend.

Alex jr came to my house to fix a sagging gutter. He came on time, he charged me what he quoted on the phone and did a great job.

This company goes highly recommended by me! I sent an online email request on Wed morning for an estimate. All I needed done was to get my downspouts replaced on my house but I wanted the custom made box downspouts rather than those ugly corrugated ones. They responded immediately via email with a quote for what I needed done. I also had them install rain gutters on my tuff shed. They came out to get the job done the very next day. They installed all the downspouts and the rain gutters on my shed. The price was right and the best part was I didn’t have to be home. I left the side gate open and they went out while I was at work. When I got home I checked everything out and it was completely done to my satisfaction. They clean up after themselves very well too. No job is too small for them. I contacted other local rain gutter companies asking for the same work to be done and either they wouldn’t do it because the job was too small or they never returned my call or email requests for estimates. Their loss! I will definitely use them again in the future for any rain gutter needs and I will recommend them to anyone who needs rain gutter work done on their homes. When I initially contacted AGS, Alex Jr. gave me an ‘attractive $ quote’ over the phone, so I scheduled an on-​site estimate (9÷19÷13) with him to make sure we were ‘on the same page’. Our on-​site meeting went well, so I signed the bid/​contract and scheduled the job for two weeks out. I was home that day (10÷4÷13), and about 9am, two workers arrived to do my job. This is when ‘The Circus’ started… From removing my old gutters with a trenching pic saying «I got it», and DAMAGING my (tongue-​and-​groove) eaves, to jamming their gutter extruding machine (and having to leave to get more stock/​material to finish my job WHICH DID NOT MATCH), to leaving greasy/​smudge-​mark/​hand prints on my white rafter tails, to doing a DISMAL clean up job (various metal pieces, screws, and damaged eave splinter pieces about the yard) — and I brought some of this to the workers attention — I still compiled a ’15 item punch list’ titled «Alex’s Gutter Clowns». I called Alex Jr. the next day and told him there were a few items we needed to discuss, and we set another on-​site appointment. He met me on-​site (10÷9÷13) and he was EMBARRASSED at the workmanship! He agreed that «this job needed to be completely redone AFTER the eave damaged had been corrected». He referred me to a contractor, who I met on-​site (10÷18÷13), felt comfortable with, and scheduled the repairs to be done with. Alex Jr. came out the following day (10÷26÷13) with Alex Sr. to redo my job, and THEY did a good job.
I was on-​site a total of FIVE times to assure my job was done properly (when it should have been only two times?), and in the end I was not offered any ‘compensation or invoice discount’. I’m sure that due to the (initial) ‘Gutter Clowns’, AGS unfortunately ‘lost money on this job’, and their feeling was that ‘the job was completed and they should be paid for it in full’ — irrespective of my (or their) time. Understanding that, I wrote them a check for the full amount of the job, re-​emphasized that I wish none of this fiasco had ever taken place, thanked them for finally installing the gutters correctly, and agreed that I would write them a Unilocal review.
My new gutters do look great, but based on my experience, I would ONLY use AGS, if Alex Sr. was going to be ‘hands on’ with your job.

Alex Jr. came out the same day I called him and did a minor repair for me where a downspout had been damaged by a car. Since he wasn’t too busy, we were able to negotiate a lower price (than their usual minimum cost). Work was done fast, on-​time and perfectly. I had called and emailed the folks at South Bay Rain Gutter before contacting Alex and South Bay Rain Gutters never bothered getting back to me (even though my vm message specifically asked them to get back to me even if the job was too small so I could call someone else!). 5 stars to Alex for responsiveness, coming out and doing the small job perfectly.

Alex Gutter provided a quality service at a reasonable price. Alex checked back first thing the following morning to make sure we were happy with the work. Alex and Alex Jr. both came by to discuss the work and made a minor adjustment to one of the downspouts to finish the job perfectly. We will definitely work with them again.

Our rental property was suffering from sagging gutters (aluminum) – we weren’t ready to replace them quite yet, though! We found Alex Gutter (a repair service, among other things), called, and our call was returned right away. We were able to schedule an appointment quickly (we had time constraints), and Alex Jr. showed up a bit before our scheduled appointment:) He got right to work and did a spectacular job! And, he left everything much cleaner than it was when he started. We would highly recommend this service! They also clean and replace gutters, so we will be calling them again in the future!

Initially Alex Jr. did not get all the communication from the receptionist and I needed them to get a job done ASAP. After talking with me, he was out there that day, got the job done the next day, and promptly sent me documentation that it was complete. I was very happy with Alex’s responsiveness. I haven’t inspected the handiwork yet so can’t comment on the skillfulness of his labor but customer service was excellent.

¹⁰⁄₂₀₀₉: The gutters filled up last year and nearly peeled off the house. My realtor keeps a list of trusted vendors and has a zero-​tolerance policy for complaints. She referred Alex’s. They got the gutters clean and reattached the 2 portions of gutter that had come loose. It would have been 5 stars except I’m still not convinced that the $ 220 I paid was reasonable. However, that’s much less than the medical bills I would have incurred for falling off roof/​30 foot ladder doing the job myself.
12÷22÷10 Update: Called around to other Unilocal gutter cleaners/​handymen. They did the same job for $ 80 that Alex’s did for $ 220.
5 stars for good work. 1 star for raping my checkbook.
5÷11÷11: Just read the owners response. Really? A warranty on gutter cleaning? Your company sent two men and a ladder out to scoop out the gutters for less than 30 minutes for $ 200 plus $ 20 to put one nail into a gutter. The company I hired a year later — also licensed & insured — sent out two laborers to do the same job for a fraction of that. You took advantage of a person who expected you to offer an honest price and, as a result are no longer being referred by my realtor nor — presumably — by Unilocal

Despite the negative first review, I would highly recommend Alex’s Gutter Service. They came out to troubleshoot the problem (rain gutter was not level and so water was leaking through a crack instead of flowing out the downspout) and gave us a quote.
I called several days later to schedule the repair — Alex sent out two guys who fixed the problem, but they arrived as I was leaving the house. When I returned, the job was completed and they were gone! I hadn’t even paid them for their services. I called Alex, Jr., to confirm what they had done and asked him if he could come by to show me that the problem was corrected. He was gracious and very responsive, came out to do a hose test and thus demonstrated the rain gutter was working just fine now.
I’m very happy with their service and attentiveness. I only wish I had called them during the last rainy season!

I would not reccomend them to anyone I know. They had to come back 4 times to get the job done and even now, I am still not sure it is right. We will see what happens when it rains. It leaked when I used the garden hose. At first they set a downspout so I could not close a gate. Then set another one so we could not open a window. The gutters were low in the middle and high at the downspouts. Parts of the gutters looked like they were pulling away from the building. The guys who were there working could not communicate in english and they came back to fix things when no one was home. One gutter actually was installed so it blocked the flow of water off the roof! I am not an expert yet these all seem to be basic things an experienced company and team would not do.
They should have installed a board behing the new gutters to give them a straight flat edge on the back side. I do not think it was that cheap either. So that was my experience. I hope others have a different experience.
