Description

Specialties

I lead workshops that coax and cultivate creativity, where adults learn about Art history, technique and materials in a fun and flexible community. We play improv games, listen to music, partake in guided meditation and take yoga stretch breaks, all in a beautiful studio set in the east hills. I specialize in Drawing, Painting and 3-D Collage. I have a BA in studio Arts, a Teaching Credential and over 20 years experience. I love what I do.

History

Established in 2007.

My husband and I moved to San Jose in 2007. I was taking a Painting course at De Anza Collage and one of the older students asked if I would be interested in teaching at the Adult School in Sunnyvale. So, I started teaching advanced Watercolor and Pen and Ink Drawing classes through ACE. I had only taught Elementary and Middle school previously. It was a joy to be teaching adults and get to know about what inspired their lives and artistic leanings. During summer break I would usually hold one or two workshops from home. These became more frequent once we moved to a house with a studio space.

Meet the Business Owner

Zoya S.

Business Owner

I grew-up in Monterey, Ca. We were poor which was difficult but also a gift in some ways. As a child, I was known for my ability to draw. In 2nd grade I won a set of oil pastels in an art competition. I can still remember dancing all the way home with my rainbow in a box.

I worked my way through college as a bilingual nursery school teacher in the Mission District of San Francisco. In 1993 I graduated with Honors from CSUEB. After that I taught elementary school for eleven years.

In 1999 I started leading «Art for Personal Growth» workshops (artforpersonalgrowth.com) through organizations such as, Men and Women as Allies, Friends of CG Jung and Monterey Adult School. Presently, I paint and lead workshops in San Jose, CA. I am grateful to be facilitating connection and meaning through art.

In my own work, I indulge in the privilege and challenge of making abstract art. I consider art art making to be an exploration of psyche, and ultimately an experiment with the Divine.
