I absolutely love this salon. I’ve been a client of Jeannette’s since October 2011 and my hair is extremely healthy as a result. The staff is professional and timely. Also, if something isn’t satisfactory, they do what they can to correct the issue. The atmosphere and service is consistent and they do not overbook or have you waiting for hours.
Simply put, this is an awesome place of business.

Do not go to this salon. It took my a while to write to get to a point where I could even write this. I went in January 2013 because I had just moved here and my natural friends raved about it. Ok experience. Got my natural hair straightened. All good. Went back in March… turned out ok… wash my hair a week later and it is bone straight! HEAT DAMAGE. she decided to use an old school flat iron. 3 years of growing out my natural hair gone to waste! I might as well have permed it, it was so bad. I wasn’t going to write this review until a friend just went recently and had the same experience. Maybe this place is good for twist outs etc but don’t go here to get your hair straightened.

There is no need for me to write a long drawn out review for this salon. What you need to know is that Jeannette and Mandy are great! I went in for a trim and education and got both plus introduced to new products which leave my hair feeling great. I would highly recommend trying out Jeannette, I am so glad I did.

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed my experience at this salon! I walked in and my hair was INSTANTLY started. I was able to go during my lunch break and I’ve NEVER been able to do this before as the person doing my hair will typically begin my hair two to three hours after I’ve arrived for my appointment. I received a wash, deep condition, clip and flat iron and it was wonderful! I received a nice massage during my deep conditioning and the products used were light and great for my hair. The professionalism was OUTSTANDING and greatly appreciated. I usually am not able to keep a press and flat iron longer than a day but my hair is still rocking after three days! If you desire quality service then this is the place to go. Not to mention the wonderful spirit Jeanette has! I am sooooooooo happy that I have a great place to go to get my hair done! You should def try this place because it is EVERYTHING! MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT TODAYYYYYY!!!

Jeannette is the best! I am very picky about my hair curly/​wavy hair. I avoid silicones and sulfates, which this salon totally respected. I was Even happier when I realized they only use organic products. Jeannette took the time to hear my current hair regimen and what I wanted done. She offered great advice even though it contradicted what I was doing to my hair at the moment and was very nice about it, not condescending at all. My hair looks better after her suggestions btw. After that, her assistant gave me a very relaxing hair wash. Then Jeannette went straight to work. My hair turned out just like I wanted it. I have perfect layers with nice body too. Plus the price is a complete bargain! I highly recommend!

The experience was very professional. Jeanette was a sweetheart as was her assistant. I got a color, cut, an was able to buy my wraps can’t wait for the next appointment. Thank you Jeannette.

Earlier in the year, I scheduled a consultation here for the big chop. I had been transitioning my hair for seven months or so and figured it was time. I made an appointment and went in to speak with Jeanette. Consultations are great for several reasons: you get to meet the stylist, see the salon, ask questions… it just really puts your mind at ease if it goes well. I told her my main concern was that I wanted mire natural products used on my hair, and that I was looking for someone was really experienced with natural hair. After just talking to Jeanette, not only did I learn a lot about my own hair, I got a really good feeling and scheduled and appointment for early January. As time went by, I began to grow a bit anxious and ended up going in yesterday.
The salon is upstairs on the second floor of the building, crossfit is downstairs. It’s really nice, I think her assistant said it used to be an art gallery… any who, I went in and Jeanette’s assistant got me set up in a chair. They were quite busy, but I was occupied with the yummy chocolates in the jar. Her assistant kinda did the groundwork (wash, comb out, leave-​in conditioner), and then Jeanette took over. She talked me through every step. I can’t tell you how happy I am with my hair now I love how it turned out! Finally, somewhere LOCAL where the folks know what they’re doing! Scheduled for a trim in two months. :)

I have been going to Jeanette since 2001, when I had seriously damaged hair that I cut myself. She was mortified when she saw my hair. She worked miracles and my hair is lustrous, thick and well below my shoulders in length. .. And no chemicals! This past week, I was was in Hawaii on vacation, in and out of the pool, and my hair survived! If I ever leave the Bay Area, I’m going to have to budget coming back for Jeanette to «do» my hair!

This place is amazing. Clean, beautiful and relaxing. You definitely get the spa ambiance whether getting a massage or getting your hair styled. I’ll definitely be going back. Thanks Jeannette and Ayesha for a great experience!

Recommend, Recommend, Recommend. I have been going to Jeannette, the owner/​main stylist for over 8+ years now. I have long hair and previously relaxed it since I was a teenager. I never knew you could have healthy non chemically treated hair, that looked good until coming here. I must say, I was proven wrong, and have since referred a number of consistent clients here. This is HARE CARE, not Hair Stare, even though you get that too! The shop is clean, employees here are classy and respectful of your time, and you get great conversation as a bonus. The services aren’t CHEAP — but then you get what you pay for. Many clients understand this and stay on the books for repeat appointments (every 2 – 3 weeks) due to the high demand.
There is also a new stylist in the shop, Mandie. She is a miracle worker when it comes to braids, cornrows, and weaves!

As a long time customer of Jeanette’s its nice that others have discovered what I already know. When you make an appointment with Jeanette, you wont wait 2 – 3 for hours to be seen. (Black women know what I mean). She is professional, runs a classy establishment and as others have said, knows hair! I have gone through many iterations with my hair and Jeanette has been honest with me each time I wanted to try something, especially if it wasn’t going to work for my hair type. I don’t know if her prices are more than other salons, with her expertise, but I think its worth it. Ladies, you know there are few things worse than a bad hair cut and/​or style. You wont have that with her. I highly recommend checking her out, even if that means appointments will be harder to get. 8)

BEST hair cut in a long time. Jeannette took the time to talk about what I wanted, what I liked and didn’t like about my hair, then spent an hour carefully cutting. She was professional, open, and engaging and the salon atmosphere was soothing. She was also frank about what could work with my hair (play up the curls) and what couldn’t (growing it long, too thin). I often leave a salon wanting to go home and wash my hair and style it myself, but Jeannette included me in the blow-​dry, asking again what I liked and didn’t. I left wishing I had a dinner date with my husband to show of her work. I’ll be back.

BEST salon I have EVER been to! If you are wearing your hair natural, this is the place to go! I have been going to Jeanette for over a year and I have been wearing my hair natural for 13 years, she is the ONLY beautician who has kept my hair healthy. The products that she uses are AMAZING! The salon is very professional, the staff are also very professional. They specialize in ALL types of hair. I highly recommend this salon and ALL of their services. You will NOT leave disappointed!

Love Jeannette who is super classy, creative and professional. Not only is she a hairstylist she is also a hair educator. My hair has never been as healthy and this long in my life. The ambience of the salon is relaxing. Ever so worth it.

I went to Ayesha for a massage. I usually get deep tissue because I’m always so tense. I told her I’ve got the tightest traps… on the computer all day. She did an awesome job on my traps, neck, triceps and forearms (hard to find therapists who massage arms effectively).
The place has an interesting setup (lobby downstairs, rooms upstairs, cool art for sell hung throughout), but is right on The Alameda, so there is traffic noise. The music helped a bit, but you can still here noise outdoors.
Good spa– try it.

I was recommended to this salon by a co-​worker. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They primarily do natural hair and I was looking for a salon that would give me an alternative to a relaxer to keep my hair straight. I explained my concerns to Ayisha and we scheduled a consultation. She took the time to listen and recommended the best course of action. I scheduled an appointment and got a GORGEOUS haircut and my hair has never looked better. They only use and also sell the Eufora line which is all natural so you know your hair will be happy!

Loves the owner, Jennette! She does a great job with natural hair! She cares about hair care, but her styles can be a bit pricey… $ 70+ for a wash and press.

Great place to get your hair treated and styled. Very knowledgeable staff of stylist. My girl has been going since they were over off of Stevens Creek under «the hair scene». They listen and will work with you to reach your styling goals. Glad they are still around.

This weekend I went to Ayjeré Salon @ 1345 The Alameda in downtown San Jose. They are remodeling the salon and will be starting the full service aspect of the business some time this year. They will be including massage, nails, and the rest that you might expect in a full service salon. They use both the upstairs and downstairs of the building they are in, so this place is pretty big. They also cater to many different types of hair including people with naturally straight hair; as well as different hair treatments (perms, relaxers, and of course naturals). It also happens to be one of two places in San Jose that Kinky/​Curly products can be purchased, the other being Whole Foods. Needless to say I was impressed when first stepping in the door of this salon; there was interesting art on the wall from a local artist, and the color palette of the walls gives the entire salon a very relaxed feeling. I love to see black owned businesses expand in such a way. I think this salon has a great momentum and I am sure they will keep it up.
Marcella was the stylist that I saw that day. She was very receptive to using the protein mix (egg, mayo, EVOO) that I made at home that day. It was my first time using it on my hair and I wanted to be able to use the dryers they had available. Never again will I sit under a dryer with egg in my hair. I wasn’t under the dryer long but they still scrambled pretty quickly. Marcella was able to gently comb out the few scrambled pieces that had settled amongst my curls. She also trimmed my hair without needing to straighten my hair, which was something that I was adamant about. Since earlier this year someone convinced me that I had to straighten my hair in order to cut it; and after she straightened my hair the stylist at another salon (that I won’t name here) said that she didn’t want to cut my hair because it was too damaged and that it would take off all my length. In the end this stylist clipped off one or two tiny pieces and called my hair finished, so in the end I still had damaged ends and my straight hair barely lasted a week.
Marcella from Ayjeré Salon was much more skilled. She took the time to give my hair the proper trimming that it needed without hacking everything off. The fact that she did it while my hair was in its natural state kinda blew me away. My previous experience wasn’t the first time I had heard that it NEEDS to be straight in order to cut. In the end my is hair super soft; it was unbelievable to me after months with dry dead ends. She finished my hair off with perfect twists that I untwisted just this very morning. My hair is just how I like it; soft with hold and very shiny! (that’s probably the protein treatment).
TL;DR This is a great place to go! Relaxing atmosphere and very professional stylists and friendly clientele. I will definitely go here again and hope they get full service aspect of this place up and running soon. If you are in the San Jose area or ever will be. It’s a great place to experience!

Ayjere Salon is an amazing salon that keeps their customers happy and their hair very healthy! I have known the staff at Ayjere for a long time now and everyone is very nice, welcoming, professional, and are all well-​trained hair dressers.
Marcella is the main hairdresser that I have and I truly do love and appreciate what she does for my hair. With the busy schedule that I have, she has kept and maintained my hair very healthy. She’s always giving me new ideas for hairstyles and advice for ways on how to care for my hair. All the ladies at Ayjere are truly a blessing and I honestly don’t know what I would do without them! :)
