Our Opticians are very knowledgeable about lens materials and helping you select the best frame style for your individual style. They will also repair and adjust frames for your comfort.

Established in 1981.

Our practice is widely recognized in the profession and the community as an early adopter of the latest technology, introducing to San Jose the Optomap Digital Retinal Imager, 3D Eye Home Educational DVDs, Paragon Corneal Refractive Therapy Contact Lenses and now the latest in wavefront lens technology, the iZon High Definition Lens. And we promise to continue to be at the forefront of new developments that will benefit our patients.

A graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Lim opened Berryessa Optometry in 1981. He is a member of The American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and the Santa Clara County Optometric Society. Dr. Lim was a recipient of the Young Optometrist of the year award in Santa Clara County and California, as well as the Optometrist of the year in Santa Clara County. Being very involved in his profession, he has served as the Political Activities Coordinator for the Santa Clara County Optometric Society for over twenty years and is on the board of trustees of the California Optometric Political Action Committee and the California Optometric Laser Associates. He also serves as the Northern California Political Activities Coordinator for the American Optometric Association.

The staff are nice. They accomodated us even if we called the same day to have an appointment. Dr. Mac is definitely friendly and professional that my husband who haven’t had any eye consultation since birth decided to make an appointment for himself.

As a new client, I was so impressed with Berryessa Optometry’s customer service. Everyone was so kind — I don’t think I ever had a more pleasant experience at any medical-​related facility. Dr. Lim was very helpful and suggested that I switch from monthly contacts to dailies, which ended up being a really good fit for me! The best part about it was that he explained the benefits, but I did not feel at all pressured to choose them (especially since budget is a big concern for me). On top of that, they worked with my tight schedule to make sure I could return for the check up and and they split the cost between my 2 insurances with no hassle so I could get the best savings possible. I can’t really speak to the glasses selection since I was only there for contacts, but I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an optometrist in the area!

It has taken me some time to update my review… I did go back and readdress the problem. I was offered the opportunity to exchange the eyeglasses for a smaller frame (since the larger one ended up being reading vision only) and lenses. I ended up with a very expensive pair of reading glasses and a $ 12 credit. While I do appreciate the office working with me and the new glasses work well, I will view this as a lesson learned and hopefully can say no to the up sell in the future!

My problem was solved by their Office Manager. I’m still a bit upset that I was prevented from spending my FSA funds earlier in the morning when speaking to another staff member and that her demands were ridiculous.

Avoid this place. All they care is about making money and nickle and dime you to death.
It’s so hard to get anything from this place especially if you speak to this girl named Noc.
I’m just trying to pick up some contacts!!! WHY IS IT SO HARD? No other place makes it as difficult as this place.

As a new client, I had a very good experience at Berryessa Optometry. The front office staff, the doctor and the assistants where all friendly and helpful. The prices where reasonable and the wait times were very short. I would definitely recommend them.

I’ve been coming here for 3 years now and I have nothing but great things to say about this place and the staff. Dr. Mac and his team are very professional. It’s not just in and out. They really sit down to talk to you and walk you through every step of the way. Dr Mac is very clear and takes the time to get to know YOU. He’s always asking questions to ensure he is getting the full information he needs to give me the answers I need. It was through this office I found out I have an ever-​so slight astigmatism in my left eye. I was given a prescription to help as well as comfort me as I spend most of my day staring at a computer for work! Now, I don’t feel as tired as I used to.
This office is great. everyone is very patient and have been very eager to make sure I am happy, conformable and satisfied. I thank my brother for recommending this place.

My family has been going here for about 4 years now and the biggest reason that I keep bringing my family to Berryessa Optometry is BEN! He provides exceptional customer service each and every time. I always wait until he can take care of us, even though everyone there is wonderful. Ben knows my boys well and knows how to work with them (may be because he has a little boy himself). When I walk in and see his smiling face, I know I will be well taken care of. Thank you, Ben, for always taking such great care of my family. As long as you are there, I will always come back to Berryessa Optometry.

I called before making my appointment on the costs I will incur, was reassured that my insurance will cover the exam and I will pay only the co-​payment. That was not the case.
My suggestion would be to get a 110% validation on the costs you will be responsible for and CHECK what you are being charged for. The staff is friendly but it seems like they are trained to charge to as much as possible.
It was my first time here and I will not ever go back.
My old optometrist does so many different tests and dilates eyes to check for everything and I’ve only paid $ 175 out of pocket for such an extensive check up (when I didn’t have insurance) and $ 45 (when I did have insurance)
I came here when I did have insurance and I paid $ 150 minus the glasses.
I HIGHLY recommend getting your costs finalized and doing more research.

Berryessa Optometry not only exceeds expectations as an optometry; they by far have some of the best customer service in the sales/​customer service industry that I have come across. Dr. Lim and staff know what they’re doing, and have you smiling the whole way through the visit. I recently moved 92 miles away from their location, but didn’t think twice on where to schedule my annual check up. Berryessa Optometry is a breathe of fresh air that defines a diamond in the rough based on their location.

Dr. Lim is the best optometrist I’ve ever been to. He is so knowledgeable about eyes, I learned things about myself that I never knew before. I love my optometrist Dr. Mac, the staff (especially Wendy), and the professionalism of this whole office. They are modern, using email and other online tools for scheduling, reminders, etc. They are always ready for me when I arrive for my appointment, so I never have to wait more than 5 minutes for the doctor. They have a great selection of eyewear and knowledgeable technicians to help you select the right pair, compare products, etc. I’ve been going here for two years and I can’t see myself moving to another optometrist. I’ve recommended them to friends and family.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE this place. I moved down to LA and I miss them so much. Dr. Mac was funny, personable and extremely nice. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and very kind. They should all get raises! One of the male staff spent a considerable time with me choosing glasses and he was very patient. He gave me a lot of pointers and recommended a pair of glasses that I absolutely love. They have hands down the best technology and even give you a travel size contact solution after every visit. I highly recommend.

My childhood optometrist one day sold her shop and disappeared! Bounced around a while as I got lasik and was kind of lazy to get my eye exams but a friend referred me here and they’re awesome. They got a ton of sunglasses to choose from since I don’t really need glasses. They got a whole case full of Maui Jims (my favorite brand) too, probably more than sunglass hut. So you can get more than just exams here!

I brought my two children in here to look at the different glasses that were on display. My 3 year old daughter needed to use the restroom so I asked the receptionist at the desk where the restrooms are. The terrible lady sitting at the desk obviously either does not have any children of her own or had PMS that day, told me very rudely that restrooms are for customers ONLY! WTH, showed no sympathy that when a child needs to go pee it is usually an emergency when they speak up. No way I’m coming back… just hug on to your toilets and your glasses for all I care. I ended up getting my glasses at Costco, price is cheaper and quality is better. Advice: Hire front desk staff that are more friendly, they are the first to greet your customers and if they piss them off you will lose big bucks without even knowing it! Very disappointing experience!!!

First time here! Customer service is top notch! Which is a real surprise, since the location is a little «spotty.» When you walk in, staff members are not shy and as mentioned earlier, customer service Is «top notch.» They really go out of their way to make you feel «important.» Dr. Mac is a «class act» and very personable, easy to talk to and a great conversationalist. They also pay close attention to the details when it comes to their eye exams and really helpful when choosing the perfect frames and lenses. There is no «upselling» here, but they do take their time and explain and offer different options. All in all a great experience and a great find!

I went today to pick up my sunglasses. The going lady that helped me was really friendly. She remembered me from awhile ago. I think her name is Christine or Christina. Bad of me to forget but anywho, she gave me my sunglasses and helped adjust them. Also helped with tightening my glasses.
I called since the box to my new sunglasses had smashed a bit. It was probably me. When I came back to swap it out, I waited by my car and the gentleman was nice enough to bring the new ones to me. That’s the second time they’ve done that for me
To me that’s going above and beyond. I probably need to go back since my new sunglasses falls off my face.

When i call for appointment, she asked for my full SSN number, why? they only need last 4 digitals, right?
The doctor is fine, but others are trying to sell more exams to you, feel this office wants to take your money too much.

Came here for the first time and I’m pretty sure won’t be my last. It’s super close by to where I live and super helpful and friendly staff.
I called and inquired about their business and the staff I spoke with on the phone was direct and helpful. She worked with my crazy schedule, which was nice, and when I came in for my appointment everyone was nice and friendly. Came in a little early for my appointment, but the staff constantly asked me if I needed anything while I wait. They expalined to me what to expect in their office and when the Dr arrived he was friendly and helpful. He was very patient with me and he explained every question that I asked.
All in all I had a wonderful experience with my Dr and their friendly staff compared to where I use to go. They really make sure you understand any questions or concerns you may have whether it’s regarding your vision or purchasing glasses.

If I Unilocaled after my eye exam, I’d probably would’ve given 4 stars. However, a couple hiccups occurred since then.
Had I Unilocaled after my follow up appt for my contact lens fitting, I would’ve given 3.5 stars because the young lady at the desk almost charged me for another exam. I had to mention I had a follow up exam and that I shouldn’t be charged. She didn’t sound very confident in what she was doing. May be she was new.
Thinking it would be easier for them to order a pair of frames I liked (since they had my insurance and all), I actually called a couple weeks ago and asked for them to price out a pair of Gucci frames. The person I spoke with said she’d call me back in half an hour. Well, she never called me back. I couldn’t help but think it was the same young lady who almost charged me for a follow up exam, but who knows. Less half a star bringing them to 3. i should’ve taken her name down.
Why the 2 stars? I was at another optometry office TRYING to order a pair frames last week (the ones I called Berryessa to price out, but never called me back). I couldn’t order them because I was told Berryessa Optometry claimed my eye exam and materials, which is strange because I hadn’t bought contacts or frames using my insurance. I also left work early to pick out my glasses so I was frustrated. They told me to call Berryessa Optometry to clear things up so I called the next morning and spoke to Arielle. However, she told me to call that other optometry place back to get a release. Obviously, I was very frustrated at this point. She was apologetic, I give her that. (I also know she wasn’t the one I spoke with when I asked for a quote on those frames.) I told her that I’m frustrated but I’ll get this sorted out.
Instead of calling the other optometrist office, I decided to call VSP first. Thank God I did! Long story short, I paid $ 89 out of pocket for my contact lens fitting so it wouldn’t be applied to the frames/​materials but they claimed it with VSP! No wonder, I couldn’t order my frames. The VSP rep called Berryessa Optometry and apparently they were aware about the mistake and they were meaning to fix it, but hadn’t gotten around to it.
To think, I had my eye exam in October. It’s December when I tried to order my frames! They didn’t have enough time to fix that?
** Edit** I do intend to go back and see Dr. Mac next year. We’ll see about ordering glasses there though.
