Calvert Dennis W, DDS

I’ve been seeing Dr. Dennis Calvert for several years now. It started when I needed a thorough cleaning, which his hygienist performed capably and cheerfully and at a very competitive price. When I needed periodontal surgery I went back. Multiple times now. As one measure of Dr. Calvert’s skill I have never had serious pain following one of his operations. I also like his tell-​it-​like-​it-​is communication style.

I’ll tell you what, after 2 weeks of non-​stop tooth pain, playing phone tag with my incompetent general dentist, and running into all these periodontist crooks who want $ 250 consults just to give you a price, I was ready to pull my own tooth out with some pliers.
Dr. Calvert is a refreshing breath of fresh air. Not only does he take a good amount of his time explaining the procedure, and the current state of my tooth, his front desk staff were also equally detailed and thorough in explaining the price $$$. They did a CT scan, exam, and consultation for no charge (not even to my insurance).
He also gave me a prescription for an antibiotic, which either by good grace of the placebo effect or pure science, got rid of my pain in a day! Mind you I have not paid them a dime yet, and to get this kind of treatment and professionalism, Calvert & Calvert now has a patient for life.
Hopefully I don’t have to pull any teeth for a while after this though…

Okay, so I should begin by saying I wish I could give this place 2 separate reviews; one for the utterly horrible chick they have working at the front desk (–10), and another for the dentists who make up the establishment (5).
For the record, I’m aware that in a mathematical equation; (–10)+5 does not equal 5… I am however allowing for good to outweigh the bad here!
First thing first:
Oh my God, who in their right mind, would put such a rude and condescending person at the front desk of any ‘hoping to be successful’ establishment?
My first time here, I arrived an hour early (my bad), but rather than noting that the, front desk woman let me sit for over an hour, thinking that the staff was extremely behind. Now… this goes back to a communication mix up between her and I, because the time had been modified, but none the less when I approached her about the concern she was rude and unapologetic for her part in the mix-​up. This alone, made me never want to come back, but a girl’s gotta have pretty teeth.
So…
Upon my second visit I was very to the point; in and out, and spent little time at that god awful front desk! I had my appointment pushed up the day prior, to allow for time to make another arrangement in my day, and was very happy to see that last minute changes were accommodated. I worked with the BIG Dr. Calvert because his son was out of the office with the flu. I must say though, that I really appreciated his demeanor, bedside manor, and sense of humor far more than his’ son’s.
In my previous meeting with the little Dr. Calvert I was almost insulted by his demeanor when speaking to me about my dental past years past… I mean there’s honest, or observant, and then… there’s just plain f’n curt. As for me… I am so not a fan of curt.

I had gone to another Periodontist first and was shocked (like many) when I found out the cost of an implant. I then met with Dr. Calvert and I was initially impressed with the clean and professional environment but was somewhat cautious when I found out how more reasonably priced he was compared to the first.
I’ve since completed my extraction, bone graph and several follow-​up visits with Dr. Calvert and we’re approaching the time for my implant. With each visit I’ve been more and more impressed. He’s very personable and takes the time to explain things (which is important in my book), and he’s very knowledgeable in his field. The office environment is very professional and I’m impressed with how well they keep up with technology. Dr Calvert was excited to show me a digital video (on their office iPad) of the procedure we were just discussing and it made it very easy for me to understand what we would be doing in the next procedure. It was great!
I’ve been very pleasantly surprised and impressed so I wanted to take the time to write a review. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve written a Unilocal review, but I know how important it is for a business and my experience with Dr. Calvert is worthy of the time and effort to do so. I highly recommend him to anyone!
