Christopher Piano Service

I found Chris on Craigslist and was reluctant to call, but I decided to give it a shot. I texted him and he replied about pricing, etc. We texted back and forth and I talked to him on the phone. He seemed nice and experienced and was guaranteeing that he will not scratch or damage the piano. We needed to move the piano before our new furniture set arrived, so we picked a delivery date for Friday, May 20^th at 7pm. He asked me to text him the pickup and delivery address and I sent it to him on Wednesday, May 18^th. I asked him to confirm and I didn’t get a response. I sent text messages, called him, left voicemails, even sent an e-​mail after finding it on his website… still no response. When I called, it went straight to voicemail. So I thought, maybe there was an emergency. However, out of courtesy and professional customer service, I should get some response so I am not sitting and waiting for him, wasting my time. At the end, Chris never came and he never moved my piano. I had to scramble to find someone else to come move the piano, in time for my new furniture set. Luckily, I was able to find a reliable mover. The whole experience with Chris was very frustrating and disappointing since we set aside the time for Chris to come and pick up our piano. I finally got a text from Chris on Monday, May 23^rd with the reponse «I tried but no response». Are you serious? After all the calls, texts, e-​mails from me, you said you tried to get a hold of me with no response? How pathetic, he could not even take responsibility for poor customer service and lack of communication.
Do not use Chris at all cost! There are many more reliable, professional movers out there that will come pick up your piano on time!

Update! Chris came back to tune the piano a few weeks after moving it up the stairs. I am very impressed with his professionalism (and ability to play the thing!). Gave me great advice on where to start with learning and recommended another tune in a year. Awesome service. Highly recommended. Piano sounds great.

I found Chris through Craigslist. Being Craigslist, I had my doubts. But after checking out his website and talking to Chris, I decided he is the guy.
Chris moved my piano from San Francisco (think hilly streets) to the South Bay. He got the job done right and very professionally. Getting a quote over email and setting up the pick-​up and drop-​off logistics were very easy. Chris was friendly to talk to on the phone (and responds to emails promptly) and assures me he knows what he’s doing. This is the first time I have to move a piano but wasn’t sure what to expect. I do want to look for someone that specializes in piano moving and not a house moving company that says they can also move the piano.
On the day of moving, he showed up ON TIME. I was skeptical at first because I’ve heard from friends of bad experiences with movers being way late. I was worried because of traffic to/​from SF. He was right on time!
He came with all the equipment and moved the piano all by himself. Glad he’s a strong big guy. He was very careful in wrapping and protecting the piano and turning every corner.
The entire job took 2 hours (from pick up to drop off). Very efficient! I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs a specialized piano mover.
Note: if you’re wondering about the Unilocal $ 50 for $ 75 voucher, I asked Chris about it. He said it is only applicable for piano tuning, not for moving. Good thing I asked before I buy the voucher.

Wonderful experience. Chris is a no-​nonsense guy who will give you straight answers and get the job done as promised. Getting a quote was straightforward, price was considerably lower than competing offers, scheduling was a breeze, Chris was at the pickup location right on time, and moved that piano like it was a box of groceries. Checked the instrument over at the destination. What’s not to like? You have a guy who knows what he is doing and is not trying to jerk you around. It’s a combination that’s getting harder to find nowadays.
One thing to note. Check if that voucher they have on Unilocal can be applied to the particular service you are arranging before you buy it. There are limitations (reasonable ones, I think) and the way that voucher is described on the page is currently not clear.

Christopher saved the day! It’s Saturday, and I desperately needed a piano mover to move one piano from San Leandro to Santa Clara. I called several piano movers on Unilocal.Those piano movers either didn’t work on Saturdays, or quoted me outrageous prices to take advantage of the situation. Finally I called Christopher. He is the man! As promised, Christopher finished his last move, called me as he headed north, and showed up at the pick up location right on time. The move was more challenging than we thought — tight corners, steep steps… Christopher was very experienced and did everything with great care. He had all the tools needed to get the job done. We are extremely pleased with Christopher’s work. His price was very competitive, and he kept his words despite those unexpected challenges during the move. I really appreciate everything he has done, and I highly recommend him to everyone. You can trust Christopher!

Beware! I called him prior to the purchase of a used piano to get a price since this was a major factor in whether or not I would purchase the piano. I am on a fixed budget and would not have purchased piano if it was not in my budget. I provided the address, stairs, and included pictures of the piano. He quoted me a price which also included «tuning» the piano. The day before the scheduled move I called him again to confirm time and price we agreed upon. Next day he never arrived for the pick up after seller was waiting for three hours at a vacant house c a piano. Yes he did call me that morning to notify me he increased the price and would need my approval before he could pick up piano. I missed his call since I was at work and my father was waiting at my house for the arrival of the piano. When I did reach him he said he couldn’t pick up since I didn’t confirm the increase in price. I am confused as to another confirmation when I spoke to him the evening before from the sellers house again including all the details. I even agreed to the increase in price out of desperation since the seller and my dad were waiting. He then never returned my calls and later I found out from a professional tuner the piano needs to be acclimated to the new environment hence cannot be tuned the same day as the move. He lied to me and I believe is a con artist.

Totally agree with another reviewer. I was referred to Christ by my son’s mom. He was very friendly and nice. It took a while for him to help me get a piano and he promised me to come back tuning my piano because I paid him in advance. I never doubt about him and trust him 100%. He even promised me he’ll repair the piano for free if it had any problem. Then 6 weeks pasted and it was time to tune the piano. I couldn’t find him any more. In the past 3 weeks, I called him millions of times and left many voice mails & emailed him. Unfortunately, I never heard back from him. NEVER! It’s really really ridiculous and frustrating! I always trust people and believe what they promise me. He totally ruined it this time.
Finally he left me no other choices, so I have to contact my credit card company and disbute the payment to him back to March. It’s not a nice thing to do, but I really don’t know what else I can do. Hopefully I’ll get my money back. Now I have to get another technician to tune the piano because my son’s instructor said something wrong definitely needs to fix asap. I’ll be very careful from now on. Sometimes people are not nice & reliable as we think.

Christopher was prompt, easy to work with, and priced reasonably. I couldn’t ask for more in a piano mover. He had professional equipment and was extremely careful with our piano. The process was totally painless.

Christopher, You took my piano for donation and disappeared!!!
I called him almost 50 times trying to obtain the donation receipt and the calls were either sent to voicemail immediately or went to voicemail after a few rings. I spotted him at a supermarket parking lot (after 2 weeks of the donation) and he asked me to call him back that night (and why does he always ask customer to follow up instead of him calling me back???) and then of course, it didn’t happen as it’s always voicemails again.
I kept trying. it’s been over a month now…
Well, for 1 time (which was about 4 days ago), he called me back in the evening saying he would call me again in 5 – 10 min as he’s almost home so he could process the document. and he never called me!!! His auto voicemail box message are my responses again.
CHRIS, You know who I am so please call me ASAP!

Chris came to tune my piano today and the service was excellent. He is very knowledgable and taught us a lot about our piano that we didn’t know. Our piano sounds perfect. I would highly recommend Christopher Piano!

I give Chris the highest recommendation. Not only is he willing to work with you to take care of your problems but he really cares about pianos not just making a buck.
I had to find a someone to move a grand piano on really short notice because the first company my wife called came in and wanted to jack up his already ridiculous rate to move a grand piano across the room by 100% once he arrived on site. He clearly thought he could take advantage of the fact that the new floor being laid could not continue until the piano was moved.
I needed the piano moved that day or first thing in the morning. It was 3 pm when I started calling. Chris answered his call, unusual these days as other piano movers never even returned my call. He flexed his schedule to come out that evening to move the piano at a really fair price. His concern was to make sure the piano was safe. He took great care in moving the piano to make sure both the piano and floor were not damage.
He gave me some good recommendation on what to get to place the piano on the new floor and returned a few days later to move the piano back.
Chris is what you like to find these days. Someone who is fair and is willing to work with customers to develop a longer term relationship. Because he provides complete piano service, His willingness to work with me to get me through this challenge with the floor remodel and his quality of work has earned him my business going forward.
I highly recommend Chris.

Chris just left my house and I could not resist writing this review right away. He was referred to me by a colleague of mine after bad luck with reaching anyone on Craigslist. I called him, he picked up the phone right away and was at my house in an hour. My job for him was to move a baby grand piano from one room to another. He came fully prepared with special equipment, disassembled the instrument, wrapped it in protective covers and dollied it to it’s final destination. While he made the whole job seem effortless, I saw how important it is to know exactly what you’re doing. Thank you Chris for an awesome job and I’ll be using you again!

Chris moved a baby piano that I had just bought in San Jose to my apartment in Redwood City. From start to finish (including the drive to Redwood City), it only took him and his assistant, Oscar, two hours to finish the entire job. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and a really nice guy who clearly loves pianos. He will be coming back in a week to tune my baby grand and I am looking forward to working with him again in July when I need him to move the same piano to my new house. His prices are very reasonable and he is very responsive when you contact him. Absolutely great!

Chris tuned and revoked our piano yesterday; after two moves and a lot of climate changes, it needed some TLC and it really got it. Chris restored its original sweet voice, which the last tuner didn’t manage.
Chris takes tuning seriously; he worked on the piano for nearly two hours, prompting one of my neighbors to get cranky, apparently about all the repeated notes — I personally found it relaxing; I should have recorded it!
I will definitely have Chris work on it next time it needs a tuning.

I’m surprised to read the negative about Chris, because he’s a great guy. Tried to get a console piano moved — try to get piano movers to answer the phone! After several tries — one didn’t go that far, one is retiring, to be fair — I got in touch with Chris. He said he could move it this weekend and they were having a special that’s too cheap to write here, now. A little back and forth and two days later I had my piano. He moved it alone with no problem at all — just a console piano, yes. On time, good job, wants to come back next month to tune it and I’m going to call him. Not just a mover, he expressed a great love and affection for pianos in general.

I bought a pristine-​condition Yamaha grand piano from Craigslist yesterday and contacted Chris of Christopher Piano to move it from the seller’s house in San Jose to my house in Dublin. He was able to accommodate my request for the very next morning (today) — a Sunday — and his rates were very very reasonable.
Chris was very prompt in getting to the seller’s house just before our scheduled time. He has all the equipment necessary to move pianos safely. Actually, I think his truck is setup purely to move pianos so he’s not a general mover. I hear mixed things about using general moving people to move a piano (which is why I contacted this business instead of using a general mover). It turns out Chris is an avid piano player and a piano tuner and he really cares about the safety of the piano!
The piano legs were carefully removed and each one was put into individual quilted fabric bags to keep each one safe and to prevent them from banging against one another. The piano itself was wrapped with a number of thick quilted fabrics/​blankets and carefully placed onto what looked like a dolly made specifically for pianos (it was a long, skinny dolly).
After carefully maneuvering the piano out of the sellers house and into the truck, the piano was then secured against one of the truck walls to prevent it from moving around. Again, it seemed Chris was very well prepared as he had my home address pre-​entered into his GPS so I drove behind him to my house.
At my house, Chris was preparing to take off his shoes to ensure he doesn’t track any dust/​dirt in the house without me even asking. Very professional. He was also very patient when I had him position the piano at the exact angle in my house.
And since Chris does piano tuning also, I asked him I’d like his tuning service on the piano. But instead of tuning it right then and there to make some additional money from me without having to make another trip out from San Jose, he suggested that I wait 30 days to let the piano settle into the new environment as that may cause the piano to go out of tune.
I’m very impressed and pleased I found Christopher Piano to move my grand piano. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking to move a piano!

I wanted to donate my baby grand piano to charity since I am downsizing and moving into a smaller space. I made an appointment with Chris at Christopher Piano for him to pick up my piano so he could find an organization to donate to charity. He did come to my house and looked at the piano. He said he could tune it and find a place to donate it to. He then went back to his truck and drove away. I didn’t know why he was driving away so I called him on his cell phone. He told me that he was going to park on the side street because the street that I live on is busy. I waited for him to come back but he never showed. I called him again but it went straight to voice message. I texted him and no response. I have no idea why he would leave and not come back. If he didn’t want my piano to donate he could have told me when he first saw it. So sadly, I have to give him a ‘1’ star.
