Growing up Filipino in San Jose and being raised by a single father who cannot cook filipino food, we went to Goldilocks a lot! Breakfast, lunch and dinner! Of course before this location opened up, we went to the Hostetter location. This location is a lot smaller than the Hostetter location but I think that is OK since there is never a packed house here. Goldilocks used to be so amazing growing up and now the quality and service has gone down a lot! The bakery items like ensaymada for example have gotten smaller in size by half the usual size! All the meat dishes have a lot of fat verses meat on them. When ordering food even the portions they give you got a lot smaller! Very disappointing.

Food is good but dang, the employees talk so loud with each other about some party they went to and other topics. A short man who i think is in charge, was almost screaming when he laugh and talk. Can’t eat in peace here. It’s too freakin loud.

It looked promising and was convenient since I happened to be in the area, but it truly is just«okay.» I have major sweet tooth whenever I am in San Jose(hellooo, bakeries everywhere!), so I had to stop by. Everything here looked appealing. I bought a few cakes and other treats and taste wise… it was nothing special. The cakes were a bit dry and the flavor just so and so. I think the price is fair here, just not enough to come back.

This goldilocks is on the smaller side, compared to the very spacious one on hostetter, but since that one has closed down, this is the only location near me. Goldilocks is kind of like the panda express for filipino’s in the sense that it is convenient for ready made food. The food is authentic filipino food for those who miss the tastes of home or for those who want to experience a little bit of filipino culture. They also serve breakfast items such as longanisa and tocino(sweet meats). They also have a variety of bakery items such as cakes, pastries, empanadas, siopao(white buns that are plain or filled with sweet pork), etc. My favorite things they have are their mamons and their melon coolers. Mamons are little spongecakes that come in either plain, mocha, or with cheese on top. They are soft, squishy, and not as sweet as normal cakes are. Melon coolers are basically a blended cantaloupe drink with cantaloupe shavings inside as well. It’s super refreshing in the summer time!

Sliced buko pie got MOLDS. DONOTBUY from this store. They sell EXPIRED foods. Be careful or you will get sick from food poisoning. This store should be closed. Those sliced cake/pie portions in the box are old stuff with MOLDS but they keep selling them. Food inspectors need to check them out.

I am giving the Mango Cake that I bought for our company birthday team: 1 star. When I was thinking of a cake for our quarterly birthdays, I thought of buying a Filipino Cake, of course, where else, Goldilocks! I was told that the Mango cake is one of the best sellers so I bought a quarter sheet and a round one since they don’t have a half-a-sheet, this is to feed 25 people. When I served and let the folks know that it is mango cake, they were ecstatic. But when they start eating, they were quiet. I didn’t know why until I started eating. Mango cake? Where’s the mango? The cream is 1.5 inches thick and very, very sweet. And sad to say, no flavor! Please, this is not Philippines anymore that you folks are very stingy on the fruit. It tasted like I was eating a sponge cake with orange dusting — supposedly«mango». Most of the good bakeries here in the US are very sensitive on the«sweetness» of the cake and also put chunks of fruits. I think Goldilocks doesn’t care and still has the mentality back home, to pour tons of sugar in the cake and just put a speck of flavor. Never again I will buy nor recommend. Not cheap either.

Goldilocks is like an old friend. I grew up with them both in the Bay Area as well as during my travels back to the Philippines! It is the only place that I have dined in, where they will use a measuring cup for their cafeteria hot foods! Take note next time! LOL Interestingly, Goldilocks was really big back in the 1990s, before Jollibee came into play. They were always packed, but now with stiff Filipino restaurants popping up everywhere in the Bay Area, I am beginning to see fewer crowds congregating here and at other locations, especially after church on Sundays! Their biggest draw here is their fancy cakes for birthdays and weddings! They go all out and shebang and bedazzle it with all the bling-bling! After all, who wouldn’t want an «UBE» cake from Goldilocks, all covered in purple? Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

I only come here when I’m craving Lumpia. I love how crispy and crunchy it is. Its even cheap to get, but I forgot how much it was. My wife and I would come back to try their Lumpia again. The workers here are nice. And I love how they make their cakes for display.

Now I know why this place has only 2 ½ stars. We ordered our food and they forgot all about it. They were not even busy. When our food came, the food was cold. How can you go wrong heating food in the microwave! When she reheated my food again, she forgot it. I will not recommend this place and I will not come back either.

To start, it is so hot in here. If I’m sweating just from standing around, then the employees must be drenching. That’s disgusting being that they are handling food. The older Filipino ladies who used to work here were nice and gave generous portions. Now it looks like they’ve hired younger employees, probably in their early to mid 20s, and they give ant-sized servings! I’ve been here twice in the last week and both times, Lhizsamae has been unfriendly, not smiling, and irritable. She has an enormous attitude and she just makes my visit unpleasant. She’s quick to rudely correct you if mispronounce the name of a food item, she rushes you as you’re paying, and she gives you the stink eye if you ask her to stamp your frequent buyer card. She needs to go. The end.

I always come here with my dad whenever we’re out running errands. We always pick this place and I really enjoy it since it’s become out father-daughter brunch time. Today, we came pretty early in the morning so they were still serving some breakfast(longanisa, tocino, garlic rice, ect) but still ordered their regular entrees that they have. I honestly don’t remember the names of Filipino food(even though I am Filipino haha) but I know we did get the chicken adobo, diniguan, pork barbecue, and another item that had pork and bagoong in it. I’ve never had their chicken adobo so this would be my first time. I guess I was expecting it to be like my mom and dad’s since that’s the only recipe I eat but it was very different compared to theirs. However, it was alright. I feel like it was more on the soy sauce side than vinegar. The chicken was very soft though, so I really liked that. I always order the diniguan whenever I’m here and today I was a bit disappointed. It tasted how I always liked it, on the sweet/sour base but I’m always unhappy about the meat ratio they give me. It’s mostly the soupy part and there’s hardly any meat when I eat it. When I do eat it, it’s mostly the pig ear and probably fat… where the meat at?! :(( The pork barbecue was delicious though! I can’t complain about that. I love Filipino barbecue and this one was done right. Of course Filipino food is known for making their food salty, sour or sweet and their barbecue sauce is sweet, always. I love it! I can probably eat it all day, yummmzz! There was a lot of fat on the pork though ;(but majority of it is meat so yay for that, Goldilocks! The pork bagoong(idk what it’s called) I did not try so I can’t say anything about that. It looks good but there looks like there’s a lot of fat and oil in it because the lol would sit on the top which I don’t exactly like. Overall, I will still find myself coming back here even though I do see flaws in their food but I love my Filipino food! :) 3 stars, Goldilocks.

9÷10÷14UPDATE: they used to close up 15 – 20 minutes before closing. Today however marked a whole new outrage. They’ve completely prepped the close an hour prior. All the food trays were removed. The staffed had mopped the floor and a guy stood readily aside waiting to mop up after you’ve walked in and as I entered the lady let out a big sigh as if I were intruding. It’s horrible. I wonder if anyone from their Corporate Offices even read these posts. Who knows, perhaps they encourage this them to prep closing. I do know that the experience is night and day compared to Lundy. No one ever seems attentive. They always expect that the other has helped you. They always seem to be eating more than working. I just think if they focused a little more on service, smiling, and being less talky talk then I’d come more often. I also don’t like how they’re already closed down 15 minutes before closing. The location on Lundy, they serve until 7pm then they close the doors. Not here, once 7pm hits, they’re out the door and they give you the«stank eye» if you come in anytime after 6:30pm. I only come when I’m absolutely craving a fix.

I love filipino food but I really think that Goldilocks is seriously over priced for the quality and amount of food they give. Their customer service sucks too. They are not friendly there really. Their baked goods and sweets are good just don’t expect any more than that.

Whenever my friend Gel is in town, this is our Saturday morning breakfast spot & it always does the job ;) You can’t go wrong w/garlic rice, tecino, longanisa & pancit like ever! It’s always good from here too, just a little overpriced! Note to SELF: next time I go in on the weekends, ask for the breakfast BUFFET?! Yessir.

Goldilocks is probably one of the most commercialized Filipino bakeries/restaurants in the area. Honestly, I usually just come here for the halo halos, which I’m not gonna lie — they are pretty fantastic. Unfortunately they raised the price, and now they’re $ 6 if you get it with ice cream. Totally worth it though, imo. If I ever buy anything other than the halo halo, I usually only buy from the bakery. All of the hot food looks like it’s been sitting out for awhile and I’m sort of hesitant to eat it… I DO like the lumpia shanghai, though! My favorite baked goodies from here include the cuchinta, puto, sapin sapin, and the cake rolls(ube, etc.) are pretty great. Prices are pretty overpriced in general… :( Overall it’s just a mediocre Filipino chain restaurant/bakery. Doesn’t really give off a homecooked kind of feeling since it’s a chain restaurant, and not so much a legit, hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Definitely my go-to place for halo halos, though!

We made a quick stop at this Goldilocks in San Jose because we wanted to bring some polvoron back to Hawaii with us. I’ve been to several other Goldilocks in the Bay Area and two in the Philippines. We love the bakery items and the polvoron and the Halo Halo. As noted by some other reviewers, this location is a little less than exciting. The grandmas were stirring the containers of greasy meat every once and awhile and ignoring us as much as they could. But, the Ensaymadas and polvoron were very good. The cakes looked very good but we did not get one. We decided to have lunch elsewhere. Tip: Come here for the polvoron and bakery. Or, come here if your physician told you you need to eat way more greasy meat.

I only come here for a small handful of items: Leche Flan, Special Mamon and their cake. If you want the inside scoop ANY Filipino establishment is most likely to be overpriced or can be easily made in any Filipino household by a Lola(grandma) or even mom. I used to come to this place more often back in the day, but the price and the portions just aren’t worth it. As for Leche Flan, my family likes to buy them for parties if I am unable to make it myself. It’s really dense, rich and sweet. The Special Mamon is a personal favorite, it’s a really airy pound cake that can induce that tightness in your chest when you eat it to fast. What exactly makes it special though? The cheese topping! Cheese and pound cake doesnt sound so appetizing at first, but it just works! Salty and sweet, contrasting flavors just work in mysterious ways. For two large Leche Flans and two special Mamons it came out to be $ 18 about $ 7.50 for flan and around $ 2 for the Mamon. Definitely a bit pricey, but it’s a good thing I don’t frequent this place.
