I went in today to have my senior portrait taken like every good senior is supposed to do. First off this business is inside of the owner’s house, so don’t expect to find a suite like I did. (They have private parking in the back that they would like customers to use also). We walk into the house and it seems vacant at first glance, so we call out if anybody was home, a girl promptly emerged from the photo room. She greets us and once the fees are all paid I’m led into a back room. A college-​aged female assistant (whom I know personally) dresses me in the customary female yearbook attire and fusses over my excessively uncooperative hair. The photo shoot went fairly well, the photographer has a cute sense of humor which brought easy smiles to my face. (The assistant was constantly fixing my hair after each photo which was a godsend). The photographer actually paid special care that my hair looked right as it’s easier to fix it in person than it is with computer editing software. He let me choose a photo out of the 10 that he took (as a teenage girl, I naturally disliked 90% of them). Overall the photographer is good, but it’s basically obsolete to buy photos due to the era of smartphone cameras. Also, the pricing of the photos aren’t exactly motivating to follow the age-​old tradition of buying senior portraits and keeping them forever. Basically I did this to get in the yearbook at least once, and was pleasantly surprised by the care and humor of the photographer.

We have used Jim Nelson’s Photography for years. We have been extremely happy with the out come of our company photos as well as the quality of service. This is a great team and we truly enjoy working with them. Having pictures done that we know we will be on our website, marketing materials, etc is a scary thought but they have been it an enjoyable process and the pictures have turned out great.

Steve is great! We used him for our school pictures, which i organized. Not only is he a wonderful man to work with, very accommodating, but a great photographer. I’d highly recommend him. They make sure the customer is satisfied and will reprint if not.

I’ve had 2 sets of photos taken here on 2 separate occasions and both experiences were so great! They understood exactly what I wanted and if I wasn’t satisfied with any pics, they made sure to take a few more until I was satisfied. What more can someone ask for? I leave a happy customer.

Need to get a replacement ID card for my daughter, the school sent me here as they have the information on file. It was printed from computer very quickly on the spot for $ 10.
There prices for general photography involve a sitting fee of $ 55 or so then you buy packages, seems pricey unless your doing a group or family photo.

The first thing I would like to say is that I have never given anything less than a 5 star review on Unilocal.My general philosophy is to only speak about the positive however I just received my daughter’s father-​daughter dance photos which were taken by Jim Nelson Photography and I needed to express my disappointment.
My daughter was 6 years old when the pictures were taken and she’s wearing a beautiful dress and her father is in his best suit. The dance was in the evening and it was chilly so she wore a jacket to the dance. The photographer didn’t think to tell my 6 year old to take her jacket off so she’s wearing it in the photo. Men don’t pay attention to stuff like that, but photographers — good ones, pay attention.
This isn’t like a school picture which can be re-​taken, this was for a specific memorable event with her Dad and cannot be re-​done. Highly disappointed…

Had the pleasure of taking family portraits here right after the holidays. We were taken in the next day with great customer service. We enjoy shooting with «?» And had some great shots. Loved the finished product.
1 star deducted for the gentlemen I had the displeasure of seeing when picking up photos. Sat in the front desk with customers and completely ignore me when I walked in. 10 mins goes by before he acknowledged me. Seriously, if you’re in front of your business then give the Courtesy of saying «we’ll be right with you» then finish your convo.

Well. They were great (Michael and wife) the day of our wedding. VERY helpful, minus them setting us up for pics I said I didn’t want. But whatever, I’m not the expert here!
Fast forward 6 months to when I actually get around to ordering. I finally order, have to wait and wait because it’s the «high school senior pic season» again whatever, I had already waited this long! But then it had been 2 weeks after when they were supposed to come in! So I call and they tell me the company who does the album left a pic out., Ok, when were you going to inform me? When I got mad enough to call YOU? Doesn’t seem like good customer service to me, especially with the price we paid and the fact that I w as debating using them again for newborn pics.
Plus, with every email and phone call to Sandy, I was met with «you need to pay your balance» I HAD! Stop telling me to pay for something I already paid for! Don’t blame me «not paying» for why it was late! I paid in full so get to producing me something for all that money.
So finally it comes in, originally I was going to have it all mailed, but at this point didn’t trust anyone so I drove the 2 hours to grab it all.
We asked them to «touch up» my acne since of course, my face decides to freak out the day of my wedding, well i guess that they thought the mole on my face, which has been there since I was 3 was acne and my entire album has it REMOVED. Are you kidding me? I said nothing. I was NOT about to wait around AGAIN and have my entire album re-​done. I don’t even know who’s to blame here, Jim Nelson for doing it or allowing it because they send it out. Either way we only dealt with them the entire time so someone wasn’t very clear about what it was we wanted fixed.
I mean it’s not like I am going to look at it everyday but let’s just day I’ll be taking our baby elsewhere.

Jim Nelson and Son Photography does an amazing job working with kids. They take the time to make the kids feel comfortable so that they can really capture that special moment. Every year they take pictures of my kids in their dance recital costumes, and we have a wonderful collection of beautiful photos that show my kids growing into beautiful young ladies. We have also used them for family protraits and loved the results. I highly recommend Jim Nelson and Son Photography.

We recently had our family photos taken here. And I must say that Steve is a great photographer. He knows how to get the great shots. Also he has great techniques to keep the kids smiling and happy during their pictures shots. This shoot was in his studio and was very well controlled. We hope to try some outdoor shoots in the future.
The pictures were online for us to choose which ones we liked. And the photos came back quickly and were perfectly done.
I and my family were very impressed with the work and the quality of the portraits. We will be back again.

My favorite! Started as our wedding photographer and has been doing all of our children and family photos ever since. Beautiful quality photos and great customer service. The «Kid’s Corner» packages are quite reasonable and I would much rather take my babies here, than a dirty mall for photos. For Easter, they have live lambs and bunnies for children to take photos with, which is definitely a highlight for kids. You never feel rushed and always get beautiful pictures.

Our family has had pictures taken by the Nelson family for well over 10 years. There is nothing better than working with a small, family owned company that is willing to go the extra mile to make sure the job is done right. We have had head shots, family portraits, high school SR (and a few months ago college graduation portraits) all done at their studio. It’s become a tradition that every few years we update our large family portrait now. We like doing outdoor photo shoots in the south San Jose area. I can truly say we have never been disappointed.

I used Jim Nelson and Son for my wedding in 2006. Steve worked with us from start to end and was very professional. Steve and his assistant were very helpful in advising us in the process and were both punctual and polite during the wedding. They were careful to stay out of the way of guests but they always got the shots they needed. I highly reccomend them.
