Because of her Unilocal reviews I thought she was going to be amazing, so I called her and left her a message. She called me back the next morning and was really rude as I discussed my case with her. You can tell she is definitely in this for the money. She even tried using scare tactics to get me in sooner. My experience with her was horrible. The only reason I gave her two stars is because she did call back right away. My advice is to go ANYWHERE else if you need a lawyer. I have no idea why she has such a good rating on Unilocal

If you’re looking for a detailed, compassionate, and responsive attorney that gets results, then you should check out Emily Phan. I originally called several attorneys while doing my due diligence; Emily stood out as someone who was experienced and knew the local Santa Clara County Courthouses very well. Among the 5 attorneys that I spoke with, she was the one who knew exactly who to call and gave relatively accurate time frames which she followed to a T. No over promising and under delivering like some other attorneys I’ve experienced in the past.
Soon after our call, she sent over the retainer agreement. As per the conversation the agreement was put in writing and I must say, among the 4 other attorneys, her prices are very competitive and she will work with you as well if you pay cash (like most attorneys will).
I then waited for about 3 months before I called her again. She didn’t harass me or email me again to push her services during the meantime.
3 months pass and now I’m ready to move forward. BTW, she usually answers the phone on the first call or if you leave her a voicemail, she usually returns my calls within a two hour period. (amazing! If you’ve ever had to wait for an attorney call back, you know they are notorious for calling back the next day or two, even when you need them to call back right away).
Anyhow, we met in her San Jose office and went over the paperwork. Everything was sent to me via email first so I can read in the comfort of my own house and not be hurried into signing the papers right away. So I felt immediately comfortable completing the forms and paying her based on our written agreement.
A few weeks pass and I needed to ask her a simple question and again, she was available and very polite when she answered my call. Great client focus!
All in all, she delivered exactly what she promised and she even called me when it was all said and done. I did not have to show up to court at all and she handled my case within the time frame as promised. She even wrote me a letter for a future employer to explain my past history and that she was currently working on it to expunge my record. (BTW, she prepared the letter for me within 2 hours after I called her and emailed to me right away as I needed it for my interview with HR!) As a side note, I did get the job I was applying for!

Emily was a great help to me. She made me feel comfortable and that I can trust her. It’s hard to find that in a lawyer when most of them just want your money. Emily help me save money where I can because she knows money doesn’t grow on tree. She was very honest to me and I really appreciated.

I hired Emily from her Unilocal reviews alone, so I felt it was my responsibility to give my own review. Due to confidentiality I will not go into detail except to say that I most certainly would not hire her again, nor would a recommend her. However, if you do decide to retain her services, get EVERYTHING in writing that she says.
When a very large discrepancy occurred, I felt that she was unable to cop to it, acted extremely condescending, and rude, without taking any responsibility for a very major error on her part. She did eventually give me a $ 500 refund, which if money was what I wanted, I would not have hired her in the first place. I am 100% positive, she hindered my situation rather than help it.
On a positive note, I gave her an extra star because I will say that she is very quick to respond to you via email or phone, which I know in this line of work might be rare.
When I review personal businesses, I know how important these reviews are, and only write them when i feel very passionately about a bad experience that I have had. That being said, this was only my experience.

Words can’t describe how great Emily is! I was in a bit of a buckle and needed my background cleared due to being accepted into the nursing program. I searched for a reliable, honest, knowledgeable lawyer that specializes in this area of practice… Emily is all that, if not more.
She responded back to my inquiry lightening fast, even though she was on maternity leave at the time I contacted her (seriously now, how great is that?). She told me that she wouldn’t be back until end of January and would book me a court date as soon as possible. A few days later, Emily contacted me and told me I was set for Feb, 14^th — yes today! Anyways, she made sure I knew that there was no guarantee that the judge would grant the clearance, but she reassured me that she would try her very best. She was extremely informative and patient with me since I had no idea what to do. She listed out everything I would need and answered all my questions– there was no doubt that I was in good hands. Fast forward to today and my record is now cleared! I couldn’t have asked for a better lawyer. I would vouch for Emily any day!

I guess I was expecting a little better service, because of the glowing reviews. Then again I don’t want her to «give» away her expertise without a retainer of $ 7500.

I was recently dealt a bad hand by the Santa Clara County police force. What was a private incident was blown out of proportion by an overly aggressive police force.
Emily Phan came to the rescue and applied her expertise and experience with the county and DA, and was able to help me avoid charges. Emily performed with absolute professionalism and was very honest and straight forward with the information and process. I had never had an incident with the law, so I was quite clueless as to the whole process. She helped alleviate my concerns and was responsive to my questions.
Emily always answered my calls and if she was busy, she returned my call immediately. She was very kind and understanding and worked hard to straighten out my issue. Not to mention, her fees were very reasonable for the level of service provided.

Emily helped me out of a jam last year. I won’t go into it, because… well… it’s my business :) LOL… but she was a godsend! I couldn’t believe I found such a wonderful attorney on craigslist. CRAIGSLIST… I called numerous attorneys who all sounded like high priced jerks but when I called Emily and heard her voice I instantaneously knew I’m going to be fine. She is very knowledgeable in the ways of the court system, who’s who and explaining procedures in a manner where I don’t feel like I am just looking at her and nodding my head pretending to know what she has been talking about for 5 mins. Emily was AWESOME. I called her for a consultation, she was professional, upfront and honest. She flat out told me her rates and how she could help, she never beat around the bush once. She gave me a lot of information about the case. Somone I knew was going to receive a felony and with all of her good advice they were able to bring it down to a misdemeanor without hiring a lawyer. She was a big help in the case. If I ever need a lawyer, she is the person that I am calling.
I completely agree with the first review. She knew all the players in the case, the DA, public defender and Judges. She definitely knew how the Santa Clara County systems works. Five Stars for her!
