Michael J’s Body Shop

I can not put into words how I feel about the service I received from Michael J’s. Usually dealing with car issues is as bad as getting teeth pulled with no pain killers! Dealing with the GM Shawn Poirier and the Michael J’s team was like a vacation. I had zero worries and the customer service and attention to detail was second to none. I will be recommending Michael J’s to all of my friends.

Excellent experience and excellent service. Found a huge crack on my windshield over the weekend, and luckily called the right body shop for help. Not only did Jeff walk me through every detail of all of my options, but the service was so great that it really took away from being upset about the unfortunate incident of dealing with a cracked windshield.
The vendors they use for the glass replacement were wonderful. They came to the house (saved me the trouble of taking a day off from work) and did a quick and great job. Highly recommend!

I was recently here to have my car fixed. Pedro explained about what needed to be done. He was extremely helpful in taking care of the entire work. He even took care of a few touch ups, free of cost! The job shows very detailed workmanship and no compromises with respect to quality. The end result: my car now looks better than before. Thank you Pedro and Lisa for all your help!

Was in a hurry and went in for an estimate. From the looks of the lot i didn’t think they had time to do an estimate for me. Little did I know the receptionist said she could have one for me right away. Pedro the estimator man was very friendly and helpful, he was definitely looking out for my best interest. I will be returning to this location to get my car fixed soon.

RUBEN! You are the man! I got in an accident last week and the front of my Range Rover needed to be completely replaced. Ruben quickly assessed what was needed, ordered all of the parts and even fixed all of the other scratches and dents around my vehicle. He kept me updated along the way and just went above and beyond to make sure the car was as good as new before returning it to me — no corners cut here. The customer service here is well above average. I know very little about cars, but Ruben took out time to carefully explain to me exactly what he did. The entire staff was friendly and honestly made what normally is a pretty gruesome process, completely stress free. Needless to say, I completely recommend this place. Thanks so much to everyone at Michael J’s!

I’m actually Impressed. After reading the reviews for the shop here in Unilocal,I decided to take both my wife’s Escape and my BMW over to Michael J’s.
The customer service experience was above average, with Terri explaining every step and keeping in touch regarding the repairs, and the interactions with the insurance company.
She took care of everything, I did not have to talk to Allstate other than opening the claim.
Now, here’s the best part. I did modifications to the taillights on the BMW to accommodate and extra SMD/​COB LED bulb; in the accident, the right side taillight got damaged and had to be replaced. After I picked up the car, I was expecting I would have to modify it myself, but no!
The shop actually took the time to examine the modification and match it! WOW!, just WOW!
Thank you again, and I hope not to need more body work, but if I do, I will not hesitate to call Terri; I will also recommend MJ’s to all my buddies.

The driver side rear passenger door and wheel well of my Volkswagen Passat were hit while the park was parked on the street. When I got the car back it looked brand new. They did such a good job of matching the paint and replacing the trim that you can’t tell it had been repaired. Their customer service was top notch! I highly recommend them for their work and their customer service.

This body shop is amazing! Pedro is THE man for helping me out on my car.
I came in expecting to pay a good chunk of money out of pocket, for some small scratches on my silver 2015 car which had ripped off some paint on my front bumper. Their estimate was very fair and reasonable considering that they would have to detach the bumper and do a proper paint job, to bring it back to new. However, not only do they have very reasonable prices, but they also have AMAZING service.
Pedro explained about how I could use my insurance policy without affecting my premiums, gave me the option of a free retouch to see if that would satisfy me. At no cost! They didn’t have to do this at all but the fact that they did makes this business a top notch one in terms of service. It just shows that they’re not out here just for the money but for long term customers.
And when the retouch was done, Pedro said if I wanted to go ahead with the full redo, I can, but at the same time made me feel very comfortable in being able to walk away with the retouch. I was afraid of a big sales pitch, but there was none of that kind of feeling at all, much to my relief.
I would definitely return here and recommend everyone to give them a visit for any body shop work!

Best body shop in San Jose. After someone took off my passenger mirror while parked in garage. I immediately got on the phone with State farm and drove to the shop. My insurance immediately sent over the claim while I was here, they ordered the part and taped my mirror back so I could drive until the part came in. Dropped off my car 4 days later and of course they got my car done in 1 day.
Jeff is the very best and has taken care of my car everytime I needed work… I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
**this is my third visit to this body shop after unfortunate events in which none where my fault***

It took 3 weeks for MJ’s to repair my car, which included to and fro negotiations between MJ’s and my insurance company (Liberty Mutual), but I felt this was much too long for a simple job and I had to be more involved in the process than I really wanted to be (following up etc.).
Once I received my vehicle, I did need to revisit because of post-​repair on-​lot damage at MJ’s. My rear bumper was scratched, one of my license plates lights was askew, and my new battery was irrecoverable. MJ’s fixed my bumper and replaced my license plate lights.
Despite this they did a good job on my vehicle, both in the initial repair and afterwards, exuding good workmanship and attention to detail. I would recommend them if they are an approved repair agent to your insurance company, otherwise things may take some time.
As a general tip: always take photo’s of your car before handing it over to any body shop, it will come to your rescue if you ever find something unexpected after a repair — as it did for me.

I am writing this review after having an absolutely stellar experience at a different body shop for very similar work (unfortunately crashed my Audi twice in Tahoe, two years in a row!).
From the start, the customer service at Michael J’s bothered me. There was no communication about my car or the status from the get go. From the time I dropped my car off, it took weeks just to get the insurance appraiser out there. All of which I had to coordinate (NOT my experience with the more recent body shop I chose). The wrong parts came multiple times. Okay I can understand this a couple times, but it seemed like it kept happening and kept adding more delays. We’re talking weeks, not days. To make matters worse, the staff member who I was working with kept missing deadlines of when he promised me my car back. I understand if there are delays outside of the body shop’s control, but BE TRANSPARENT about it. Don’t tell me over and over, «You’ll have it by the end of this week, I promise!» and then not deliver. On top of this, he wasn’t delivering me the status updates. I had to call weekly to understand why my car still wasn’t finished. It took so long that my 30 day rental car coverage literally ran out and I had an extra 3 weeks of rental car cost billed to me. Yes, you read that right, it took almost 2 months to repair my car (and it wasn’t catastrophic damage or anything).
I thought maybe this is just how it goes at body shops. Heaven forbid I crash ever again! But alas about a year later, I had a similar accident and chose a different body shop in Redwood City. I kid you not, I drop my car off 5 days before this Christmas, and they have it back to me on Christmas eve. Constant communication. Little to no effort on my part regarding insurance and appraisal. Free rental car coverage the whole time too!
After having a 10 000% better experience, I can say with confidence: do not take your luxury car to Michael J’s. They’re just not set up for fast turn around if your car requires a bit of special attention. Find a more personalized body shop that truly puts in 100% effort to getting your car back to you as quickly as possible.

Great experience getting my car repaired after getting rear-​ended. Terri did a fabulous job dealing with the insurance company to make my car «whole» again. Very grateful for her time and effort, the customer service and the repair job. Please ask for Terri. She will take great care of you!

I came in with 2 banged up doors on my mazdaspeed3 and Terri took good care of me. Their staff is very friendly and polite as well. I had to get insurance stuff worked out on my end, but Terri was patient and followed up with me. I didn’t know what to expect picking up my car, but i was blown away by the quality. The car looked brand new! They vacuumed it up and down, washed the car, polished the wheels, and even got this sticky mark off my windshield I’ve had there for months. They went above and beyond just the repairs. Take a look!

So happy with my experience!!! The staff that I came in contact with (Mike, Pedro S., and Lisa) we super courteous, professional, explained everything, and made me feel at ease! It was my first time dealing with an auto body place and I can safely say I chose right spot :).
They called the rental place to come pick me up (which I thought was awesome!) and they contacted me as soon as my car was done, I came the next morning (love that they open early btw) and my car was good as new, shiny and clean, like nothing ever happened :):):):)
I was so please with their service, and I would definitely recommend them!

I’m very satisfied with the job they did. «Pedro S» did a great job of explaining what would happen, he was very up front and honest about the way he does business. He provided a quote with all the details and was very professional and pleasant to deal with.
The paint matches and the car was complete as promised. Hopefully I don’t have anymore fender benders but if I do I know where to go.

Based on a friend’s referral, I went to Michael J’s to get a dent fixed. It was the result of an accident and affected an approximately 1′ x 2′ area. I was impressed by what I saw of the facility. It is professional-​looking and clean. From what I have observed in the office, the volume of cars they service is huge. The staff seems to have a good system for keeping everything on track. My estimator, Terri, was great. She was up front about the work and schedule, and she communicated well and often throughout the process. My car was there for 2−½ weeks, which seemed like a long time, but ½ week was due to my insurance’s estimator not responding right away. The work they did on my car looked great. I definitely recommend this place.
Update: I realized they also replaced a burned out bulb on my left headlight. Note that the damage to my car was in the rear. This means they checked the various functionalities of the car and took it upon themselves to replace a part completely unrelated to the body repair. Very cool!

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!
I went to Michael J’s to have 3 different repairs done. One was a recent accident where a person changed lanes without looking and the other two were a result of a minor accident that I had on a tight mountain road in the Sierras (my fault). I chose to have all three done at the same time to avoid headaches with multiple visits, rental cars, etc.
Michael J’s may have great reviews for their auto body work but I didn’t make it that far. Unfortunately I got stuck with Ruben the estimator (gate keeper of repairs for the insurance company) to get these items repaired and set up a time and date. The date was the day before my trip out of town. My insurance company agreed to have all of the work done for me. Ruben told me on the phone that these repairs would be done… Ha ha wouldn’t you know it?! The day before I leave town I go to drop off my truck and Ruben suddenly thinks that my «bumper repair might raise a red flag with the insurance company». He straight up refused to help me with a repair that had already been approved!!! I asked him to please check with his boss and he said «aint gonna happen» so I left.
Well there goes a great opportunity to have the work done on my work truck whilst on vacay. So you can clearly see why I’m extremely disappointed. Again this review is only for the estimating/​gate keeping process not for any repair or painting service at Michael J’s.
Does anyone out there have any recommendations for a quality auto body shop that will do what they say they will do?

Extremely good customer service! Jeff is really nice! My car was in an accident and they repaired everything within 10 days! Looks brand spankin new and they even washed my car for me after! They also put some new license plate covers that i brought on my car for me which was a pain for me because I had some cheap screws so they were nice enough to do it for me!
Only thing that was a little inconvenience (hence the 4 star) is someone told me my car would be ready by the following Friday and then Thursday Vivi called me to tell me it would actually be Tuesday so I had to call rental car company and postpone drop off date to Tuesday as I was paying a daily rate… Then Friday (original ready date) around 2pm I got a call from Vivi that it would actually be ready today at 4:30… So I had to call rental place again to make accommodations…
***Update*** had to come back because my interior/​tail lights were not working, maybe a fuse?! Vivi is so sweet! I called her on my lunch to see if i can swing by real quick and she said yes, so I came by and the mechanic (Anthony) took my car right away and started looking into it to see what was wrong! He was really nice and apologetic for the inconvenience… Vivi offered to get me Starbucks while I wait, she was really sweet and knew I was pressed for time so she was very accommodating and sensitive to my time! They fixed my light issue within 20 minutes!!! Thanks Vivi and Anthony for making this easy for me and fixing my light problem on my car!

I have never had better customer service at a car shop than at Michael J’s!
I was given multiple shop names through my insurance and of course decided to check them all out on Unilocal.When I came across Michael J’s, other customers had great reviews so I decided to go with them. From the time I called to bring in my car they were nice and helpful. The day I brought my car in for the estimate I was still shaken up from the accident, and they made the whole situation easier and made me immediately feel better about things. Terri was my estimator and she was beyond friendly! She even had the shop guys pull off the undercarriage of my car that was hanging/​dragging from my car to make it a little easier until my appointment day.
As I drove off from picking up my car today, I noticed there was a rattling noise when I would hit a bump. I went back to the shop and they were able to locate and fix the problem (spare tire not put back in correctly from the tow truck) quickly.
It took them less then a week (it was the holidays too), to fix my car. Absolutely impressed with their customer service and the service on my car. They went above and beyond my expectations!
