Baby sign language reduces frustration, accelerates verbal development and strengthens cognitive skills. It also enhances child-​parent bonding through time spent teaching signs to your baby.

Research shows that preverbal infants can communicate through the use of sign language long before they can verbalize their needs. At My Smart Hands, we will give you the skills and knowledge you will need to communicate with your preverbal, hearing baby or to create a more effective mode of communication between you and your toddler.

In our classes you will learn over 100 signs to use with your child. Classes are 45 minutes in length and are created for parents/​caregivers and babies. In a playful, educational and language-​rich environment, caregivers and children will build their American Sign Language (ASL).

History

Established in 2005.

MSH was created by Laura Berg a stay at home mom with a background in education. Here we are now, several years later and My Smart Hands is an international company with nearly 100 instructors and growing every day! All of the instructors have unique backgrounds but we all have one thing in common, a love for signing! All of My Smart Hands instructors are required to have formal ASL training. We pride ourselves in being an educationally based company that will deliver fulfilling and exciting classes to the parents that take them!

Meet the Business Owner

Christina H.

Business Owner

Christina Hoppner is a licensed Baby Sign Language instructor with the award winning My Smart Hands program created by teacher and author Laura Berg. Based in San Jose, California, she is determined to teach the world sign language one baby at a time.

Her interest in American Sign Language began in middle school when an instructor came to her class to teach the ASL alphabet. She was fascinated by the fact that you could speak using only hands and how easily she remembered each letter. Years later, after her daughter was born her interest in ASL turned to a passion for learning and teaching baby sign language.

Aside from her two biggest joys; her family and teaching baby sign Christina holds a Bachelors degree in photography and a certificate in make up artistry. She also enjoys donating to various organizations.
