The goal of psychotherapy work is to help you feel and function better, and to help transform negative experiences into positive and favorable solutions. Ideally, psychotherapy work helps alleviate hopelessness, distress, and maladaptive coping behaviors, and assists in a healing or restorative process to rekindle hope, enhance mastery in life skills, heighten self-esteem, improve mood, and reduce stress. Length of treatment can be short-term or long-term depending on what you need. However, mutual participation between psychotherapist and you are important in order to create meaningful and individualized treatment.
You know therapy is working when you feel less worried, afraid or anxious; problems are being resolved; relationships are improving or you’re feeling better. You have the right to end therapy at any time. It is best to meet at least once before stopping therapy.
