Dr. Taheri has extensive training and experience in all areas of pediatric dentistry. He has been providing superior pediatric dentistry services since 2000. We are committed to staying abreast of the latest techniques and scientific advances in pediatric dentistry by reviewing current dental journals and attending continuing education courses.

Dr. Naderi has years of experience and extensive training in restorative, general and cosmetic dentistry for adults. She is skilled at handling treatment of gum disease, cosmetic dentistry (tooth color fillings, teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and bridge work), oral surgery and root canal treatment. Dr. Taheri is certified specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. He was raised in northern California. He did his under-​graduate work at U.C. Berkeley. He received his Dental Degree from U.C. San Francisco School of Dentistry, which is number one ranked Dental school in the country. By then he could have started practicing as a general dentist, however he continued to complete three years of additional post-​doctoral training at U.C. San Francisco; Oakland Children Hospital and San Francisco General Hospital to become a certified specialist in Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Taheri is highly trained in all aspects of pediatric Dentistry such as behavioral management, conscious sedation and Dental restoration under General Anesthesia. He has published several articles in peer reviewed professional journals. Also, he is an active member of American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and California Dental Association.

After searching online for a pediatric dentist I found Shawn Taheri (I should have checked Unilocal before), I then took my four year old and 2 year old for a check up. I knew before going in both my daughters were going to need treatment done. After x rays on my 4 year old and a cleaning I was told she was going to need over 750.00 + worth of treatment, I felt a bit over whelmed next came my two year old, they could not do full x-​rays because she would not sit there and only did half the cleaning. I was told she was going to need 775.00 + worth of treatment plus 1200.00 for Anesthesia which is paid to someone else but before any of this work is done I would have to pay up front which is understandable. I knew I had good dental coverage so I was a bit overwhelmed never was I given a print out of my exact charges. I went home and thought about what I should do at first I was going to make an appointment and fix their teeth but instead I got a second opinion. I took my girls to another dentist and only come out of pocket 252.00 with less work needed to be done which makes me wonder. I also was charged on my first visit which I wasn’t charge at the other dental office for my first visit which makes me wonder what I paid for. I should have asked what I was paying for. ½ a dental cleaning and only two x-​rays on my two year old? Go figure with that being said like many others on here please check other options before you start paying money to them especially if you have insurance.

Stop and read this before going to Shawn Taheri.
My 4 year old was treated by Shawn Taheri but the billing showed Roya Naderi as the treating provider to allow them to bill substantially higher since Roya Naderi was out of my insurance provider Delta Premier. It just so happened that I had taken a picture for viber moment which I showed to the Shawn Taheri’s billing person who agreed right after she saw the image. Prior to that she insisted she was right. Then I found out from the billing person that since sedation charge was out of pocket expense it was not reported in the patient’s chart to Delta Dental, this I informed Delta Dental who stated to me that I should file a 2nd grievance which I did. Delta Dental lacks systems of controls when such grievances are filed. So take as many images of your kid and save them as you may be scammed!

This is a great clinic, very quick and kid friendly. They have movies on the chairs, not that they needed it, the hygienist was so fast and nice for the check up and cleaning. Dr Taheri is kind and honest. My son had his first cavity. Since it was the end of the year (and the insurance period) they squeezed us in the same day. They even threw in a free resin sealant since they were doing another along with the filling anyway. The filling process took less than 15 mins. They made my son calm and comfortable. I’m happy we found this place.

Since there is so many bad reviews on Dr. Shawn Taheri how can we report him to the dental board. As I’m reading all these reviews from 2013−2011−2010 it seems as it never got any better. I have my share of bad experience from this guy for paying for all this work that my daughter needed got a second opinion and didn’t have to pay a dime on so called cavities and fillings he had to do on my daughter and very blunt and rude he is to the parents! I had a horrible experience last year 2013 and this year 2014 thank god to my friend who works at a great dental office because she saved me from paying this unprofessional dentist who obviously cares more about the money than his patients!

I came here a few times to have my teeth cleaned. Other than the video games in the waiting room, I did not like the staff or dentist, they creep me out.
I found the dentist to be condescending and arrogant and made me feel guilty if I did not floss or needed extra cleaning. I’m glad my parents moved me away from this place.

pleas please please DO NOT go here!!! He told me my daughter had cavities and I got a second opinion and she didnt’ have ANY! He is condescending and arrogant! Plus, I originally got a quote for 900+. I got most of the work done somewhere else (because I have a friend), and for some reason, though it was only 1 thing he did… it still cost me over 900 dollars!
Save your money. Don’t go here.

Dr Taheri was very patient with our niece. We thought we may have to put her under anesthesia but he assured me that our 4 year old could do it and so could he. He walked her through the procedure without me being in the room and I left the room with confidence knowing that all would be well. She did great and loved the coins at the end to get a prize!

The only good thing about Dr Taheri’s office is that the kids can play video games in the waiting room.
If you want a condescending dentist who talks down to you and does not like answering questions, then you have found a winner here. 1 star, glad I switched and much happier elsewhere. I have to give 1 star as Unilocal does not allow 0.

I’m not doubting everyone’s experiences but I guess I was lucky enough to have a COMPLETELY opposite experience.
I brought in a 9year old special-​needs client who would not sit still for X-​rays or anything that involves having to stay still for more than 30 seconds. Dr. Taheri was extremely patient and thorough! He managed to find numerous ways to do what needed to be done. He did NOT up-​sell any services and was upfront about his limitation in services (i.e. he does not perform root canals or invisalign). Instead, he showed us where to go and how to save money by foregoing unnecessary procedures. My client and I spent a good amount of time there.
The only thing that would prevent me from giving him 5 stars is the very costly consultation. I guess I’m speaking from a social worker’s perspective (we’re used to work with under-​privileged population that can barely afford food and basic necessities). However, the amount of money we can potentially save would wash-​out the $ 417 consult… possibly even more.
I’m sadden by reading everyone’s negative experiences. I just hope the ones who have more positive experiences would take time to write their reviews.

This dental office not only have great doctors but a great staff. They took care of my daughter’s teeth cleaning. As a dental assistant myself, they did a very good job on my daughter’s teeth. The doctor was very gentle wth my daughter despite her loud cries of fear. The staff was also very amazingly patient with her. They kept her calm without my presence, whch was a first for me. Furthermore, the office is very technologically advanced. They have many games to keep them busy duing the wait. They even have tvs for the kids to watch during the cleaning. The most unique part about our visit was the fact that they had a reward system where the «well behaved» kids got a token to pick a toy from the toy box. All in all the visit was very pleasant, and I am glad to have my daughter come back.

Please Please listen to everyone because the worst mistake you can make for your child is taking them to this dentist. We took our daughter to him and he was completely rude, not only speaking badly and loudly in front of our child but the way he interacted with our daughter did not make it a good experience for her, she was so scared of the dentist by the time he was done, this was a cleaning and exam.
The other issue I had is that after reviewing her teeth he said she need almost $ 700 worth of work done, she is not even 3 yet. I spoke with his office desk people to confirm what was seen and got conflicting results. I decided to take our daughter to my normal dentist (who is awesome by the way) to get a second opinion because something didn’t feel right. Well good thing because it turns out that $ 700 worth of work was not needed. I am going to look into where to report this dentist because obviously they are making recommendations based on making money and not whats in the best interest of the child.

I agree with the previous comments regarding the pushiness of procedures and the dentist’s rudeness and condescension. When I questioned him as to whether my son really needed the procedures, especially considering the x-​ray he waved in my direction at a distance, he became agitated and bullish.
I was also not allowed into his inner chamber and was made to stand in the reception, talking over the receptionist to the dentist. I therefore had to share my conversation with the rest of the surgery and did not have an opportunity to take a close look at the x-​ray.
I am finding an alternative dentist and would recommend that you do the same so that your chldren are not subjected to unnecessary, traumatic and often painful treatment.
I am also looking to report to him the relevant authorities in order to consider his lack of professional standing.

I felt rushed through my son’s appointment. Also in the cleaning area you share the space with two other patients so there is no privacy. I was horrified to see my bill later for a standard cleaning and x-​rays, which I thought were covered fully by my insurance, only to find that the dentist charged for local anesthesia which I was not aware of at the time. I wont be returning to this office.

Please avoid this Dentist. He will try to «sell» procedures that are not required. He «discovered» 5 cavities in my son’s teeth. Though he was unable to show them on the x-​ray, he still insisted that those cavities need to be taken care of asap. We went for a second opinion to my dentist and as expected he found NO cavities in my son’s teeth.
So my advise is to STAY AWAY from this dentist.

I have never written a review before, but I feel obligated to warn people NOT to visit this dentist! I took my 4 year old daughter to her first dentist appointment where Dr. taheri badgered me saying that she had six cavities while looking at me with such disgust that I almost started crying. I have always been vigilant in the care of my daughters teeth and was shocked to hear she had six cavities! He then gave me an estimate of $ 1798.00 to fill her cavities! He told me he would give her oral demerol when he filled her cavities! I decided I needed a second opinion. At the new dentist i was informed that she had no cavities and that her teeth were in great shape. Dr. Taheri planned to drug my child and give her dental work that she didn’t need! I next plan to report him to the dental board on charges of fraud! Stay far far away from this dentist!!!

I’ve been coming to this dental office for many years and I have always had wonderful experiences here. The office staff is very polite and always answers all my questions. Making an appointment is seamless, and I am always seen on time. The dental assisstants were very efficient and kind.
Both Dr’s Taheri and Naderi are great!!! I brought my younger cousins, who are 6 and 8 years old, for their appointments a couple of weeks ago and I was very impressed with Dr. Taheri’s tactics in calming them down. He was extremely nice and explained everything he was going to do. I was really impressed with his demeanor towards children, he seems to really enjoy working with them. The appointment went pretty smoothly and both of my cousins were excited to come back for their check up in six months! I found out during the appointment that Dr. Taheri attended UCSF dental school and is currently faculty in the pediatric dentistry department. Knowing what a prestigious program that is, i was pretty impressed and felt that my cousins were in really good hands.
Dr. Naderi, who is the general dentist, was also really wonderful. She was very gentle and thorough during my exam. She explained to me the current status of my teeth and where I need to improve on my brushing. I really enjoyed her demeanor towards me, as I found her to be very calm and gave me a positive outlook towards visiting the dentist.
All in all our visit to this dental office was very positive and enjoyable. It is nice to be able to find dentists who take the time to show their compassion and kindness towards their patients.

My 2 year old daughter was complaining of a toothache last week so my husband and I decided to take her to see Dr. Taheri. I wish I would have Unilocal’d his business first or I would have never taken her to see him.
I will be honest, I rarely ever post reviews. But thought this review would be useful to others.
We enter the building and it is somewhat kid-​friendly. There is an arcade game for kids to play with and a couple of good reading books. Upon them seeing my daughter, we filled out the necessary paperwork and waited about 15 minutes before they called her in. They take my husband and I into this room with her where it looks like they are going to explain what they will be doing and where they take her xrays.
The first person to see her is the dental assistant. She was nice and explained what she would be doing to my daughter. She told us that one of us would need to sit with her and keep her in a bear hug so that she would not wiggle around while they are taking her xrays. my daughter did okay with the first xray since she only had to bite down on the piece of plastic between her front teeth. But xray 2, 3 and 4… this is where it seemed like everything went downhill. she had started crying and this is when I noticed some blood in her mouth. I’m assuming when they had her bite down for her back teeth xrays the plastic had cut the roof of her mouth. Instead of them being gentle and even wiping away the blood, they decided to just try to get xrays 3 and 4 done as quickly as possible, all the while my daughter is screaming. Next, they started her teeth cleaning. First they let her feel the brush and said it would tickle a little and that it would tickle her teeth. My daughter did okay with the cleaning… however, when the lady was wiping away the flouride, she didn’t do so well. The dental assistant wrapped gauze around her finger and swirled it around her mouth so fast, it was making my daughter gag.
Finally, she got to see the doctor and he just didn’t seem very patient. Instead of explaining what he was going to do, he was scolding her to not bite down on his mirror and on his fingers. I can understand she was probably doing this because it was her first time seeing a dentist and she was a bit scared. i just had the feeling he was losing his patience with her. My husband finally told the doctor he needed to slow down a bit. the doctor then tells us she has 9 cavities from what he can see. Mind you, he could not even get her to keep her mouth open. Overall, our experience with Dr. Taheri was not great. Just because you have a bunch of stuffed animals in your office, doesn’t make you a pediatric dentist. oh and one last thing… she didn’t even get a PRIZE!

I was referred to this doctor by our regular dentist for my 22 month old son. I had been there before for my older son, It was very disturbing he would say things to him like «your mom is going to leave and go away if you don’t stop crying!!!». This time was no different again. Very rude front desk personnel. I felt he reccomended unnecessary procedures when he said my 22 month old needs steel caps for the cavities? I had a friend who had to get those for her 4 yr old daughter because she had infections and a root canal. He also took X-​rays while my baby was sitting on my lap screaming and crying. The x-​ray does not aid in the diagnosis of chewing surface cavities. Just because the insurance would pay he would expose a baby and a mom to radiation and traumatize the baby? He only has 12 teeth in his mouth for heavens sake?

I am not the type of person who normally writes reviews, but in this case I felt compelled to address the positives and negatives regarding my experience with this dental office.
Positives:
The care my children have received has always been fine. Since my kids have anxiety about going to the dentist, this office has been great in providing options to mitigate this concern. Additionally, the reception and billing staff have always been friendly and helpful. From the perspective of my kids, they are also thrilled that there are a couple of video games in the waiting room to entertain them while they wait.
Negatives:
Dr. Taheri does not seem to have a good bedside manner. I feel like he is reprimanding me or asking me what I am going to do rather than educating me and giving me options for treatment. He also does not seem to relate well to children (which is ironic since he is a pediatric dentist). When treatments are required, I am usually given an estimate of what the cost will be. At my most recent visit, I was charged the estimated amount at the time of check-​in. After the treatment was completed, an additional item was included and charged for that was not on the original estimate. The dentist should have known that this would be needed and I should have been informed. Additionally, my son had a stubborn loose tooth that wouldn’t come out on its own (even with parental attempts). Dr. Taheri indicated that if the tooth hadn’t come out by the time of the scheduled treatment, that he would just remove it without charge. However, when the treatment was completed, the tooth was never removed, even though I had reminded the staff at the beginning of the appointment. Once I brought it to their attention, Dr. Taheri indicated that we would bring our son back in to have the tooth removed. That is the last thing I would want to do to a child who just suffered through the anxiety of a dental appointment. Why would I want to tell him that he has to go back in for more work?
In Dr. Taheri’s defense, I will say that he called us after the appointment to apologize for the misunderstanding and offered to complete the work in a future visit without charge.

I must be honest, this is a overall nice pediatric office… The staff are professional & Dr. Taheri is great for standard dental services. By far a 10* from that perspective.
The loss in ratings is the way in which the office handles «special procedures».
My three year daughter required extensive work and the manner in which the office conducted the treatment. She was taken to the enclosed glass room in which I was asked not to go into… Rather they asked me to wait in the lobby. Only a few minutes into the procedure I was asked for consent to papoose her for her safety.
I understand this is their protocol, however it traumatized my daughter dearly. I have since had to change dentist and am happy to say that she no longer fears going to the dentist.
