Silicon Valley E-Race Racism 2007 Run

I would definitely do it again next year. I will definitely wear warmer clothing because it was painful at the beginning, but I survived!
I thought the course was laid out nicely. Signs on where to go were helpful. All the volunteers were super friendly and motivational!
Some suggestions for the future…
–Signs for registration and where to go first (pay first at one table, then submit registration/​waiver forms at another table). It got a little confusing at the beginning.
–Since the finish line is in a pavilion with a grill, I say… have a BBQ next year! The event ends close to lunch time, so as Mimi L. had suggested to me, perhaps the organizers could charge an extra $ 5 or so to participants who’d be interested in hanging around afterwards for a BBQ or something like that. Maybe a live band afterwards? I liked the community vibe going on, and I think live music and food always makes events more fun! Plus, I dunno about the other runners, but after I finish a race, I loooooove to eat!

From my morning chronicle:
7:50am — Arrived at Lake Cunningham Park and texted Mimi. No response. Man… they better not flake out! It’s freakin 39 degrees out here!
8:00am — Found Christine and Mimi at the registration line. Cool. They didn’t flake. But they were dressed warm. I was in shorts and t-​shirt with frozen nuts. So I registered, paid my $ 30.00 donation, picked up race number, grab bag, t-​shirt, and looked for a heat source. Temp: 42 degrees.
8:20am — Sat in Mimi’s car with the girls. Warmed up and prayed that someone would change their mind. Let’s go home instead. Temp inside Mimi’s car: 80 degrees. Nice! Can I just wait in the car?
8:55am — Standing at the starting line. Trying to stay focus and wish the day could get a little warmer. Temp: Still 42 degrees outside. Overcast. Beautiful grey clouds. No sun. Dayam… I’m screwed.
9:00am — Race begins! Cruised around Lake Cunningham Park for the first two miles. Still not breakin sweat. Cold air into the lungs is not enjoyable. The sun is breaking through the clouds. Nice! A little better. Ran into Santa’s little helpers! Cute red boxers and jiggling gluteus maximuses! «I had to look… Sorry!» Arrived at 1.5 marker and almost 95% of the runners are going back! WTH!!! Lazy asses!!! Keep running! Same thing happened at Turkey Trot last week! All these glamour runners are quitting already! Bastards!!! So the girls and I keep going on to the 10K trek. We made our way out of the park and starting conquering the neighborhood streets. Not bad. Although it took some time to pace ourselves, the 30 degree inclines through the streets wasn’t difficult. Finally got on Tully road where we took a brief photo shoot with Mimi’s mother and friend. Said our goodbyes and headed down White Road. Landed back into the park and finished up the last two miles.
10:08am and 31 seconds — Finish time. That’s it Mimi! No more until 2008! I’m going to hibernate now. I’m proud of you both! GREAT JOB! Now can I put on my sweats!!! Its 48 degrees and MOTHAF***N COLD STILL!!!
10:31am — Texted Guri. No response. He’s probably in bed — sleeping. Nevermind… the Second Harvest Food Bank. I’m going home, take a super hot shower, and grab the first review on this event! HA!
Overall this is a small community run so I’m not comparing it to the larger race organizations. This race was a fundraiser to support a good cause. So five stars for the organizers and volunteers!!! Thank you!
Would I participate next year? Yes. Wear spandex. It’s hella cold around this time of year. In addition, you burn off more calories for the incoming holiday eats.

Time clocks along the route: No
Water stations: Yes. Total three — 1.5 mile marker, 3 mile marker, 5 mile marker. No sports drink.
Last minute thoughts: Someone put yellow flyer on my vehicle wind shield. It says 10K Run at Palo Alto Baylands on January 1, 2008 at 9:30am. OH HELL NO!!! I’ll be in bed. =)
