This place gets one star cuz i had to rank it, So I drove all the way over to the south side of San Jose and come find out this bakery is closed. Not only were they closed but they offer phone orders, but no one answers!!! Really great when your hearts set on tres leches and only 2 bakeries show up and the one you go to is freaking closed. FML feed me

I am a very picky bakery person and Sunrise with the new management is great. I followed the chef from Baking Specialties which is also very good. Their burnt almond is very good and they made a chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling and ganache frosting, yum. I’m looking forward to trying more.

Overall I was disappointed in this place. I tried a bearclaw and didn’t like it much; the almond filling was scarce and I did not like the texture of the pastry itself. The packaged Svenhart ones you can get in the grocery store are tastier. Much worse was the cream puff with chocolate icing. I did not like any part of it: the pastry was hard and tasteless; the cream was unpleasantly heavy; the chocolate icing was not too good either. I threw most of it away. (If you really want to taste a delicious chocolate covered cream puff, try one from Dick’s Bakery on Meridian Ave.) I got a burnt almond cupcake for my BF and he liked it; but then he likes most anything. I did think the peanut butter cookie I got there was good, so I may be back to try other cookies, but I will steer clear of the pastries and cream puffs from here.

Kara’s psssshhhhhh! No way! It’s all about Sunrise Bakery. Came in for an afternoon treat; left with a dozen cupcakes. Selection was awesome, delicious, and affordable. Burnt almond cupcake… YUMMY! This is the new South Bay cupcake spot! Get it!

All the cakes I have bought from here have all been great. The cookies and muffins keep me coming back.

This bakery seems like a cross between a French bakery and a Mexican bakery. I’ve never ordered a cake from here, just drop in to browse their already baked items. The presentation is a little sloppy, and the cupcakes are similar to grocery store quality. Though I do love their napoleons, I haven’t seen them the past couple of times I went. I also saw them set up at a table at the Santa Teresa farmer’s market.

Can we say DELICIOUS!!! Okay all, say it with me. DEE-​LISH-​ISH!!! (I hope I spelled that phonetically correct).
Anyways, I recently went to a family party and they ordered a cake from this place (I up and asked my Aunt where she bought that DEE-​LISH-​ISH concoction. It was a white cake with a passionfruit mousse filling. I’m not a huge fan of frosting, but OMG the butter cream on that thing was…**drool**.
Not to mention the cake itself was adorable. There were little swirls everywhere and it just looked so delicate.
Sunrise Bakery, you are amazing! I wish I lived in San Jose, just so I can delight in your creations as frequently as my diet will allow ((which is of course, never, but if I close my eyes the calories don’t count right?!?))

If you want to be disappointed, this is the place to be! They have a hard time following simple instructions. First time it happened, my wife ordered baked goods for a party with very specific instructions for the deco. When she picked them up, they were very different from what she asked for.
Then a couple months later, we gave them another chance and ordered some individual cupcakes for easter with simple deco instructions. Picked them up today, and «lo and behold», they put together the individual cupcakes and slapped a very thick layer of icing on top with different colors! What we got was a big blob of gooey cake looking thing with a hint of cupcakes peaking through the sides. We were so disappointed and demanded for our correct order. They said it will take some time to get my correct order, so they offered to give us half of what we paid. We really were left with no choice since we needed something for our party.
Sunrise Bakery is 0 for 2 with our orders. We are not going back there again.

I’ve also tried a couple of the cake slices and their chocolate cookies are addictive.
So happy to have found it just recently and am looking forward to trying their sandwiches!

I live in Chicago and wanted to send bakery goods to my brother-in-law’s family who lives in San Jose. I needed these to be delivered. I called 10 bakeries in the area. Sunrise was the last one on my list. Sunrise was the only one who was so very kind and helpful. They promised to deliver them. They asked my price range and suggested these be arranged and delivered on a platter. He arranged cannoli, chocolate covered strawberries, upside down pineapple cake, and a few other desserts. I was so grateful. I received a call from my sister a couple hours after they were delivered to be told that everything was delicious and half gone.

I agree 100% to all recent reviews of Sunrise Bakery under new recent ownership and would like to add that over the past few years… if I was anywhere near North 10^th St (Specialty Baking) around 4pm to 7pm, I would make it a point to pickup 3 to 5 «oven hot» fresh loaves of french breads for $ 1.00 each. I found out from insiders’ tip they had contracts to make major hotels & restaurants house rolls & breads, sandwich baguettes for a well known chain and hi-​end all natural specialty breads and sold some of the extras over-​the-​counter. (Tell counter staff that GT «let the cat out of the bag» about the $ 1 oven fresh french bread from 4:30 –7:30pm M-​F with whole wheat my fav.
Finally, the classic european inspired pastries as well as cookies, cupcakes, muffins, etc. along side Mexican pasterlerias here taste as delicious as they look (artistically decorated) in the showcase. I believe several nearby sit down restaurants sell these same desserts on there menus at twice the price! I always ask for the pastry du jour or what’s the newest? with cup of fresh brewed french roast coffee. Their special order birthday and wedding cakes are made to order and well worth the slight extra expense vs the neighborhood supermarket stuff ! FYI: The Sunrise Bakery is just two quick right turns leaving the Cahalan 95 123 Post Office next to the Sports Authority store.

I used to come here as a kid with my dad. We loved the burnt almond cake! I believe it’s been under different managment a few times in the last 12 years or so. I didn’t come back until early December, and I was in a crisis.
We had a huge surprise party for my mom’s 60^th, and the cake from Greenlee’s never got picked up. I was in a rush and was just going to go to Safeway because I didn’t think any bakeries would be open at 7PM. Rushing down Blossem Hill, I thought of Sunrise and risked the drive by. IT WAS OPEN! I bought a tres leches cake that was a HIT at the birthday. (Cash only)
They look a long time writing happy birthday and could tell I was in a rush so they gave me free candles that I had wanted to buy. It was incredibly nice and hospitable. I was very impressed. I love that its family owned! Thanks Sunrise Bakery, you saved me!

This is a great find! The bakery is super clean, with a french feel. The staff is amazing. I went in here tonight with my boyfriend right at closing time, and they were very helpful and gave great recommendations. I had the DIAMOND and my boyfriend had the Cannoli. Both were amazing! Reasonably priced and great atmosphere. A+ in my book!

I am happy to say that yes, it is true! Sunrise Bakery does have new owners! Thank you to Maria N. for reminding me. I’ve been meaning to write an update. I’ve had Sunrise Bakery a few times now since the new ownership and they are back to having the best tres leches around. :) My dad’s favorite cake is tres leches so we decided to give Sunrise another shot when we found out about the changes. My mom called the bakery to ask about the tres leches and the person who answered (whom I believe was the owner) told my mom that she could come by and sample the tres leches to see if she liked it or not before she ordered it and mentioned new ownership. She went to try it and was very impressed and was able to get a freshly baked tres leches cake right on the spot! Sweet! The people that work there are very nice too!
What’s even sweeter now is that they sell their famous tres leches cake by the slice! Perfect for when you’re having the craving and don’t want to buy a whole cake! *Sigh* My sweet tooth is starting to kick in as I type and I want a slice of their oh so heavenly tres leches right now. Mmm!

I have been going here for about one year and it has always been good until now. Now it is GREAT!!! Keith has made this place a must try. I go their almost every morning and the guys at work love it! The sticky buns are the SH*T! He also started selling bread and the jalapeño cheese bread is great. I will never go anywhere else the place is GREAT!

What a great hidden gem, I had their cannolli, perfect amount of sweetness with a strawberry on top, the cream was a blend of whip cream and butter cream, very light flaky, pand by far away the best I’ve tasted. Their «Concha’s» (seashell a light Mexican pastry) were so light made just perfect. I have been back several times, and seem to be leaving with a bigger box each time, and all of this with such low pricing. Sunrise Bakery stands out as an reborn operation extremely innovative, creative and beautifully done with the nice warm welcoming colors,

This bakery has come under new ownership. The new owner/​baker/​chef has studied under some of the finest culinary schools of France and has all his certificates well documented and on display in the bakery, which would account for the perfection of his pastries & bread, combined with his authentic Mexican heritage serves this new age bakery that show cases the wonderful creations of both French & Mexican cusine.
With so many places closing their doors, it nice to see this little bakery come to life again.

I’ve heard a lot of stories about this bakery since the change in ownership, and had to try it out for myself. I have never made a list of what I’ve liked in a place but this bakery was well deserved
1. I was very impressed on how clean this bakery is everything looked polished, dusted and wiped down not a speck of dirt anywhere. It was so nice that I stayed to enjoy my pastry on one of their convenient bistro tables located inside and out of the cold.
2. I been to several bakery in the area to try out different pastry to get a feel for what I like and never once was I asked «what are you really in the mood for and let me see if I can help» until SUNRISE BAKERY. Even the head Pastry Chef came out to see if they can help (Thanks Keith) that went along way for me because all of the other bakery’s in the area just wait for me to pick out what I wanted and made me feel like I was the one bothering them.
3. One more to add to the list is selection! I was very impressed with the amount of choices I had for this bakery. I could go for a simple yet very tasty cookie or I could have went for one of their many fruit filled Italian pastries or a delicious cake that looked fresh and not something that had been sitting for weeks.
SUNRISE BAKERY is one of the most impressive bakery’s I’ve been to in the entire bay area. Thank you for my great experience and I hope other will get the chance to see what a true jewel this bakery is.

I buy my cakes from two bakeries only, this one and sweet passions. sometimes sweet passions is way too much cake for what I need and I’ll get my cakes from sunrise. The people are always nice, I have gotten cup cakes for a class of 30 frosted and decorated in the time it took me to call and drive to pick them up. they were fresh, tasted great and the kids loved them. They made the best cake for my son’s 1^st birthday January of ’07 chocolate and bananas, and for my daughter’s 9^th birthday ¹¹⁄₀₇ a great tasting Tinker bell decorated cake.
What ever I have needed I have gotten, the cakes are fresh, taste good and the prices are not bad.
It’s a clean establishment and they have a wide variety of choices.
All they need is to set up a website and they will be good to go…

Sunrise Bakery has recently switched ownership and I have noticed that the quality of the cakes has gone downhill. I ordered a white cake with custard filling for my husband’s birthday. I placed my order a week in advanced and requested that they put some sort of design other than flowers and his name on the icing. When I went to pick up the cake, a friendly clerk pulled out the box and showed it to me before sealing it shut. The name and design was perfect and I thought everything was fine until I took the cake home to slice after dinner. Instead of custard filling, plain white icing was used for the filling. Too late to take the cake back I called the next morning to complain was brushed off since I did not immediately take back the cake. I will not be ordering anymore cakes from this bakery.
