The Dancing Cat

Booked an hour about 3 days before our actual visit. The owner, Mary, was very welcoming and friendly. She did a fantastic job explaining the characteristics of each cat and her love for The Dancing Cat and each of the animals was very clear.
The room itself was very nice and cozy. There were snacks for purchase and plenty of toys to use to play with the cats in the room. The were plenty of cats to interact with and it was definitely a nice hour of calm and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of my usual life. Unfortunately I believe they are closing on November 15^th, but it was a great experience to visit while they were still open and it is clear that they have done a great job of sharing their love of animals with many people!

The Dancing Cat is such a cool place. It’s like a super chill cat club house; a haven for cats waiting to find their forever home and forever humans and a awesome hangout for any cat lover out there!
We arrived without reservations on Saturday and were able to be accommodated right away. We were greeted at the door by one of the owners, a super nice lady who told us a little about the place, gave us a little tour, and talked a bit with us about some of the cats on location. The Dancing cat mainly consists of one huge sun filled room which features a large comfortable sectional sofa on the far side of the room as well as a huge dining table in the middle. Behind the main entrance through a short hallway is a small back room deemed the quiet room where cats can rest in peace and quiet away from the main room. The cats though, who have full reign of the place, have no lack of space for freely running, playing and dancing about! There are cat walks hung all over the walls for the cats to get up high and explore from all angles of their surrounding. The cat walks leads up to either a cat porch where there are cat houses for the cats to rest and snuggle down in, or to over the windows where the cats can perch and human watch or just to lay about up there. With the multiple cat trees, the couch, tables, window ledges, the cat walks, elevated cat porch, and overlooks it seems like the kitties here are really enjoying a great life while they wait to find their forever home with their forever human.
We enjoyed leisurely hanging out and playing with these cats for a while. There didn’t seem to be any time limit as to when our visit needed to end and the whole time we felt completely invited and didn’t feel rushed at all. There is complementary tea, coffee and water while you hang out with the cats, and some snacks for sale if you get peckish. The owner though did not seem opposed to the idea of bringing a lunch while you visit.
While this place seems to be a perfect cat haven and an awesome chill hangout for any cat lover, this place also offers many fun events such as the upcoming Intuitive Perspective with pet whisperer and intuitive Rani Naik, children’s storytime with story teller Olga Loya, book reading by author Fern Field Brooks, and instructions on cat photography, just to name a few of the fun cat themed upcoming events this place has scheduled.
We definitely are planning on coming back to this cat café in the near future! While this place so far is listed as being a temporary event I’m really hoping they will be able to stick around longer and become a permanent addition to the South Bay! Fingers crossed!

Great place to hang out with some adult cats. Most if not all of the cats were all very sociable to humans. The whole place has an artsy feel to it too (edit, just found out Mary had the panels of cats commissioned by a local San Jose artist couple!). I can tell why the cats are all so relaxed — this place is a cat playground. Places to climb high, hide, lots of toys, etc. Mary, one of the founders, is extremely nice and also a cat whisperer. cats cats CATS!

I love the name. .. being a dancer and a cat lover. I love the space, the colorful lanterns and the murals. The first review I read made me think that there might be a specific time of day to go because at one time or another 8 out of the ten cats were up and about and playing. I was thinking how amazing it was that most of the cats played the whole time I was there.
Most people have mentioned that The Dancing Cat offers free coffee and tea and a few snacks can be purchased, however, it really is more about the cats than it is about a traditional «café».
The space was open and relaxing. I think it is a great place to visit. I will be back. Perhaps I’ll see you there!
It has been a year since my cat died so I really, really, really enjoyed being in the company of cats. Might be time to have a cat back in the family. .. .. .

Just got back from the Dancing Cat. It was a great experience. The place was calming and relaxed. Adoptable cats were so cute and we had a great time play/​observing/​being around the cats. They are doing so well I think they are staying open longer than ⁶⁄₁₃. So go check them out!

This place is so cute! These cats are sweet and loving! If my landlord allowed pets than I would have adopted one without a doubt! I made a reservation for 4pm and we came around nap time. All of the cats are sweet and friendly. The bf was never a fan of cats until recently. I took him here and he loved it! He got to play and pet them. Looks like this place is going to stay open a little longer so I’ll definitely be back. Even if I have to go home empty handed.

What a cute little place. Honestly if you are coming here and expecting a real café, you should be forewarned that they don’t actually serve any drinks but do ask for a $ 10 donation.
They also require reservations as to not overwhelm their cats, so be sure to call in advance to reserve!
The cats here are generally hiding because, well, frankly that’s what cats do. This is the U.S. answer to the Japanese craze of cat cafes so definitely don’t expect the same level of kitty-​interaction that you may have experienced overseas.
However, this is a fantastic cause, they are really here to showcase cats that need adoption and permanent love! If you are an animal lover, don’t hesitate to visit the Dancing Cat while they are still around.

Cute loungy place to meet some adoptable kitties. Staff is friendly and the cats are adorable as heck! Come check it out! :)

A cat café in town increases San Jose’s awesome-​ness factor by infinity. This is a marvelous place to spend time. I hope this can become permanent.

Had a wonderful relaxing hour with the kitties. It’s a beautiful peaceful space and the staff are awesome. If you love cats you will love the dancing cat.

Came here with my husband and two kids (ages 11 and 12). We have two cats at home but heard about the Dancing Cat and were eager to check it out and visit with the cats! The décor in the café is very cute, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The cats, of course, are adorable. As others have said, there is coffee and tea available, and light snacks available for purchase. You can also bring your own food and (non-​alcoholic) drinks. I noticed that some folks had gotten coffee from Roy’s Station in Japantown… great idea! We really enjoyed our time and were very tempted to adopt another furry friend. If you have a great home to offer a kitty companion, or just want to chill with some cute and friendly cats, definitely check out the Dancing Cat!

I took my 6 yr old son here, because we love animals but do not have any right now.
This place is VERY cute!!! Clean, quite and cozy. Has some tables with benches and sofas. Feels like you in someone’s living room.
There is a coffee machine and tea available.
The people are very friendly who volunteer.
There are toys you can play with the cats, too.
I work from home and sometimes just need to get out. I can see myself coming here to do my work.
We will come back for sure.
