Ubiquiti Networks

I contacted the business again yesterday and provided them a copy of my complaint with the BBB and suddenly they were able to finish their «investigation» on my missing product and ship me one overnight. It arrived in my office today. Miraculous how these things work. I update my review and move to 2 stars here because they fixed the situation, but it would have been nice not to have wasted my time on umpteen e-​mails and phone calls leading nowhere. I read the review giving them 5 stars on their support staff and I have to believe that that service is provided for their LOCAL customers. I’ve never encountered a company with literally NO phone number to speak to someone before. The phone number they provide is an outgoing message telling us where we can e-​mail for various issues; apparently the support e-​mail was useless in my case until BBB was involved. I hope that others don’t have the same experience as I did.

Utterly atrocious support, probably the worst possible experience you could possibly have with a company.
No phone support whatever, long response times via email, clueless replies that don’t address the actual question.
Avoid.

Will Smith once said (in the iRobot movie) «you are the smartest dumb person I’ve ever met!» And this statement applies oh so well to Ubiquiti Networks. They have the capacity to make a good software interface — functional, easy on the eyes but the fact that it’s fully java-​driven is lazy, if we’re being honest.
Then there’s the hardware side of things. Good performance, but bone-​headed choices on their end make it a nightmare to get fully functional. I purchased a UAP-​AC access point and my existing router did not have enough voltage to properly run the AP so I ended up getting the Edgemax Router because it supported 48v POE which is the requirement for the AP to function properly. Come to find out, some overpaid genius at Ubiquiti decided to ship the Edgemax Router with a 24v power supply and there is actually a 6-​page forum on this issue at:
I’m quickly finding out that a 2.5a 48v power supply is NOT all that common. I’ve tried Radio Shack, Altex, a computer parts surplus store and everyone’s shocked by the high voltage and immediately asks «What are you trying to power?» The «official response» from Ubiquiti on third-​party power supplies (as they do not currently offer one of their own) is that if an issue arises from the use of a third party part, your warranty WILL be voided.
So to sum it up, this product has been out for almost a year, and in a year’s time they have not developed a 48v adapter which is required to get this to work with THEIR AP and they are taking little to no responsibility for this and basically saying that when they do develop one it will be an «accessory» that early adopters will have to purchase at an additional expense. Companies that strive for customer satisfaction will win a customer for life. Companies that fail to realize the importance of that struggle with retention.
The other thing that kind of agitating is that Ubiquiti Networks AirRouter could solve this whole thing if they would just come out with an updated wireless AC router. Instead in 2014, they choose to still ride the market with a single-​band wireless N router (aka the AirRouter). I hate to see good companies make bad decisions but what can you do?
