Dr. Trainor is seriously the best!!! Amy, the front desk person is very sweet and always greets you with a smile! I have been coming here for about 10 years and every time has been a smooth process. They take appointments on Saturday’s which is convenient. It’s a very cute, clean little office. Right in the middle of downtown Willow Glen so you can grab a bite or walk around before or after your appointment.
The only caveat I have is that their glasses are super expensive and overpriced, I understand it’s private practice but the prices are pretty steep even after insurance covers $ 140.
I will still continue to come here for my eye exams because the quality attention and service I receive is great!

I found Visual Eyes Optometry on Unilocal after my previous optometrist told me they no longer carried Chanel Eyewear. Visual Eyes had a very large selection of Chanel, and also other high end designer brands.
I was helped by Nori, who was very friendly and helpful. She took the time to review all pricing and options so that I could maximize my insurance benefits and get the best product to meet my needs.
I have happily found a new optometrist!

I like this place. This has been my only eye doc I have ever had and I see no reason to change. They are nice and they check my eyes. Not sure what else people want. I gave them the 5^th star because they have appointments on the weekends! Not having to lose money taking time off to get my eyes check is fantastic.
See you guys in a year.

Great facility with a large selection of regular glasses and sunglasses. The location is really nice on Lincoln. There’s some street parking and small lot behind the office. Lots of local shops and restaurants nearby.
The vibe is this office is pretty hip and modern and the staff is really friendly. They explained the exam process and my exam was done by Dr. Sung. I found her to be friendly, knowledgable and able to answer my questions clearly. It was a thorough exam.
I plan on returning to pick up a pair of frames soon and would recommend VisualEyes and their staff to my friends. Keep up the good work.

VisualEyes is located right on the main drag in Willow Glen, very convenient. I didn’t have to wait at all to get checked in, and have the checkups done. Overall the checkups were conducted in a professional and crisp manner.
I do have a couple issues: first, the front desk didn’t spell out their fees before the tests, although they make you sign a form that says they will. I’m charged for a «contact lens fitting»! I’ve been wearing contacts since 1996, haven’t seen that before.
I was examined by Dr. Sung. I found her to be competent, and I assume she is good if my eyes actually had a problem. But her «bedside manner» is very dry and hmm… remote. You’re in, you’re out. I’m sure it suits many others.

Dr. Trainor is great. As he’s doing an exam, he explains everything as he does it and makes sure to tell me when I can blink and what a test is going to feel like. He answers questions really thoroughly and I don’t feel like I’m being rushed. He seems to actually read the chart about why I am there before I arrive so I don’t have to explain my vision history every time. Also the office staff are nice and I’ve never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to see the doctor.

They have a great selection of glasses and while selecting glasses the ladies that work there are very helpful.
The reason for my lower rating is that when my glasses were ready, they called my number and apparently left a voicemail because I didn’t answer and didn’t recognize the number. I never got the message and had been waiting for my classes for about a month with out a call. They didn’t call me back at all or call my back up number (my mom’s phone number). My glasses have been sitting in their office for two weeks and they didn’t decide to ever notify me again other than that one voicemail. I found out all this by calling them and asking and they preceded to tell me that my glasses had been there the whole time. I moved back to college so now they have to ship them to me, AND they are making me pay for shipping because of their mistake.
Moral of the story: be on top of it and keep calling them to see if your glasses have arrived.

Awesome place if you are looking for an optometrist. I just moved into the willow glen area and was looking for an optometrist and this is definitely a great place. Patient and very professional. Recommend them !

Awesome docs and I’m self insured so they give you a nice little break. Plus their Chanel glasses!

I had the nose piece fall off my fossil glasses. Crystal at the front desk fixed them for 10 bucks in about 4 minutes. She even adjusted the frames for free; good stuff. Very friendly and professional place.

This optometrist has great staff and was very professional, friendly and helpful. For starters, the eye doctor, doctor Trainor was willing to talk himself out of a sale of some contact lenses I wanted– because he felt I wouldn’t be happy with the results. It was refreshing to deal with someone honest and forthright. Next, one of the employees, Amy, was extremely helpful and patient while helping me select glasses. She even laughed at my bad jokes. Then, I really wanted to pick up the glasses on a Friday, but couldn’t get there before closing– so she waited for me– great service.

I’ve been a patient for 12 years now and I have nothing but rave reviews for Dr. Trainor. I’m a picky person with my vision and he goes through it ever year with the same meticulous approach as the first time. Contacts could be pain to get right and he is right with you, holding your hand all the way until you are happy. I’ve moved 40 miles away but we still make the. Annual trek to their office.

This review comes after my optometrist of 20+ years retired. Whoa! He was the bestEST! It has not been easy finding a replacement, but I believe I have found a hidden gem in downtown willow glen. I scheduled an appointment for an annual eye exam & confirmed that they accepted VSP (choice) insurance. I went in and discovered that I had a scratch on my cornea and what appeared to be an infection. I was prescribed an antibiotic, followed the instructions and was ok by the next eye exam visit. Dr. Ngan took good care of my eyes. We discussed various contact lens options and my questions were answered to my satisfaction. I really like the office setting. It’s clean, nice selection of frames, staff is friendly and the equipment is cleaned just prior to your eyes being tested/​examined. Overall, I am happy with this office and will be back.

Dr. Trainor is the most meticulous and detail-​oriented optometrist I have ever been to. He really takes his time and always finds the right solution to any vision issue — I had many problems with finding the right contact lenses and he patiently worked with me until I found a brand that worked. He is great with kids as well as adults, and I always feel I’m being well taken care of whenever I see him. The office staff is fantastic as well — very responsive and professional, and also helpful in choosing the right glasses and frames, of which they have a comprehensive selection.

I do not normally write reviews, but I the services provided by Dr. Trainer at Visualeyes where exceptional. I had Dr. Trainer who is a great person. He is current on medical procedures, patient and trustworthy. His manner of explaining everything I wanted to know was very impressive. If only my past teachers were so good at explaining things. The office is nicely decorated, not that this is a big deal when dealing with my eyes, but it’s very comfortable and I like going there. I highly recommend Visualeyes if you want professionalism with a personal touch. Thank you Dr. Trainer.

Great service and good products (contacts, glasses, sunglasses). The doctor there really helped me find contacts that were comfortable for my eyes. Didn’t just stick with the Acuvue formula.

I have poor vision and Dr. Trainor is fantastic. He is always very current on trends and advances in the industry. I feel like I am always given every option for treatment and contact lenses. He even suggested I bring in my very (costco) old/​bent by my toddler glasses to see if his staff could try fixing them.
Front office staff is typical for the medical industry — hit or miss.

I really like this little optometry office.
Why?
1. The doctors are friendly, accommodating, and seem to know what they’re talking about.
2. Their staff is really great about helping you find the right glasses for your face. My husband and I have worked with two different technicians, and both of them were wonderful and helped us choose exactly the right frames. If you order contacts through them, they arrive within a couple days.
3. The store is inviting. It has an upscale décor without being pretentious.
I’m withholding one star because frames are not cheap here. But if you can get a good deal through your insurance, I’d highly recommend Visualeyes. I know they accept VSP.

Appointment Making: I had to wait a month for a Saturday appointment, but I expect that. Lots of availability during the week, and they’re open until 7PM on Wednesday and Thursday.
Atmosphere: It was a little harder to find while driving than I expected, as the storefront is a little further back than the rest of the stores on Lincoln, but easy to spot while walking. Once you get inside it’s a small office, friendly and personable staff.
Great equipment. I haven’t been to an optometrist in a few years, so having laser and computerized systems instead of puffs of air and whatnot for the glaucoma tests.
Staff: I saw Dr. Ngan, and she was excellent. Really fast in narrowing down my prescription and talking to me about my vision habits when it comes to computer use. Not at all judgmental about having not been to a clinic and other such things, hooray! She was also really helpful when it came to eye irritation form allergies and talked me through a ton of options.
Price: They gave me lots of options or the lenses themselves, similar styles in many price ranges. However, they’re all a bit on the high side, $ 120 – 260 for the ones I looked at. I would not recommend going here if you don’t have insurance. My bill came out to high $ 600s if I did not have insurance, but I was getting designer frames. With insurance it was only $ 100 co-​pay, hooray!
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend if you have vision covered in your plan. I’ll definitely be going back.

This place is pretty good. I’ve been a customer since 2001. I got contacts here and prescription glasses and they did my pre– and post– Lasik care as well. The staff is alright and the husband and wife doctor team is very professional.
The best thing about this place is the location and their inventory. They are in the middle of downtown Willow Glen, so you can do other stuff before or after your appointment. They have a very nice selection of frames and they can order anything out of the catalog. After Lasik, I even bought a pair of prescription glasses mainly for the frames.
They also offer a special discount to VSP insurance members.
