Bear’s Hideaway

Love this place, love the dogs, come in late for ½ price glasses of wine. Only been here a few times, but I’d swear the dogs remember us. Bear comes to greet us every time!
$ 6.50 beers on draft? Yikes, a little pricey for a little hole in the way place, but
oh well. I don’t drink that much these days so an extra buck a beer, so what. We still love it. It’s all about the patio! Really interesting bottled beer selection too.
Possibly the only place within 100 miles I can go and feel happy and centered. Wish I was there now.
And occasionally smoke a cigar! They sell cigars too.
And of course then it’s off to the Basque restaurant to eat till you can barely walk.

Love this place. Laid back and super friendly staff with a wide selection of local wines and some great local brews as well. Super comfy and inviting back patio makes a perfect spot to kick back and enjoy a tasty glass of Pinot. Plus a couple of friendly old dogs there to greet you!

First of all I cant believe that I have lived in San Juan for over a year and tonight was the first night I have been to this wonderful little gem.
My boyfriend and I had a well behaved older dog and a wild puppy.
Lori was so welcoming and accommodating to us that we immediately felt excited and grateful to dine in this wonderful establishment.
Please take note that it is very important to keep your dog on a lease while enjoying a beer or glass of wine here.
Patio is elegant and comfortable. Got to meet Bear, a very well behaved sheep dog, and a super sweet small black cat named Lucy who allowed me to hold her and tell her how pretty she was.
My experience here was over the moon. In a small quite town, here is the sophisticated place to be. Customer service is an A + here.

The nicest place to unwind in San Juan Bautista. I will always want to spend time here!

There are a few things that make this place fantastic: dogs, owner, patio, alcohol (in whichever order you prefer). Bear and Tedi are sweet sweet. Lori is kind, personable and honest. The back patio is a fantastic spot to hang out for hours with friends and she carries local drinks including Brewery Twenty Five’s latest creations. Stop by this place. Bring a deck of cards, invite your friends. And if you forget your sweater, grab one of the many colorful blankets Lori will happily grab for you. Thirsty Thursday $ 1 off all beers. Wine Down Wednesday: buy one glass 2^nd = ½ off. Sunday from 5−6pm ½ off all already opened wines by the glass (plus live music). If you’re hungry, there’s a special menu where you can order from the Basque place down the road and they’ll deliver it to you.

Great ambiance: fun, conversationalist –super friendly owner. Cute, quaint, and cozy atmosphere.
Lots of wine, fun for small groups go chit chat. Highly recommend trying it out.

What can I say about this place? Have been here once or twice and have been greeted like an old friend when we walked in. Lots of options for wine, some beer, even options for the DD. Plus, friendly doggies and a gorgeous, quiet back patio area.
If I had to pick a negative? There’s only one bathroom but hey, it IS a small place.
Definitely worth checking out and is a great stop in a cute small town where everyone knows each other.

The place is awesome it has the best selection of quality beers and wine in the area. The atmosphere inside or out is wonderful. The beer is exceptional lots of great variety and seasonal flavors. The company of the patrons always friendly. Live music form time to to time various themes from DJs to a German duo. Bear and teddy the resident Australian Shepard’s will stop by to be pet and are wonderful bar dogs

Was in town on ⁰⁷⁄₁₉ with a rather large group… Was looking for a good cigar when a local recommended Bear’s. What a treat. I got a good cigar, had a chat with the owner and an introduction to Bear himself (on his birthday). I will definitely return to this quaint little spot.

We had a great time here. Nice selection of beer and very friendly staff. The Hop Notch IPA was great on a warm night. We will be back!

I recently got married at Jardines in San Juan and I was looking for a rehearsal place that was close and convenient for everyone. I found Bear’s and talked to Lori since Bear’s has a back patio. I wasn’t sure if she allowed parties there. Well, she instantly said yes and to make a long story short, it was the best, laid back evening EVERYONE had. We were allowed to pick up amazing pizza from Pizza Factory and the Wine/​Beer selection was so so good. Sometimes small town settings can be limited but her selection was phenomenal! Even now, we still go every once in a while because Lori’s craft brew game keeps getting better and better. We follow her on Facebook and usually base our visits on what she has on tap. (I know. We’re crazy beer people…) Anyways, go visit Bear’s! I cannot not say enough about the atmosphere because even the most uptight family members got a little tipsy and had the best evening!

Absolutely love this place. It is warm and friendly environment that provides a great location to enjoy great wines and craft beer. The outdoor patio is great. This is exactly what San Juan Bautista needed.

Visited this establishment yesterday evening. Very quaint cute place. Nice and relaxing. Dogs just add to the relaxing atmosphere. Nice outdoor setting. Would definitely return.

Hands down this is one of the coziest and coolest bar in the region for me. The outdoor area is great, especially if you have good size group. I am always surprise with the new selection that they have and I enjoy getting their invites for the special events. Lori is a very kind and cheerful lady to speak with and I love the patience she has to explain all the new brews and wines she is carrying and offering tasting. Another great feat about this place is the ability to order food from two great restaurants in the area. Bear, the owner, always comes around for petting and adding to the great atmosphere of the place. Me and my wife visit San Juan Bautista whenever we can and Bear’s Hideaway is a place we make sure to visit always. Its a great way to begin and end your trip in San Juan Bautista.

If you want a Bud or Coors, go down the street. Bears Hideaway serves real beer, many types of wine and port, as well as cigars. They have a great atmosphere to relax after a long day with the added benefit of its proprietors, Bear and Tedi. (Bear is very possibly the most gentle, calming dog on the planet)

We love Bear’s! Great place to hang out, great craft beers on tap or in the fridge and wonderful wines. Local restaurants will deliver as well if you feel like getting something to eat while you enjoy a beverage. Great place!

We love this place. Lori has been expanding the outdoor space and adding wonderful little touches that give Bear’s its charming ambiance. In addition, she’s added beer on tap (quality brews) and is working with other local businesses to offer dinner to her guests. I am so happy that her business is progressing. San Juan would not be the same without this little gem. Lori is knowledgeable about her products and extremely accommodating – she even brought us lap blankets when the wind picked up outside one evening. We have been to one of the musical events and the feel of it was both casual and intimate, and the artist was pretty good too.
By and large however our favorite part about Bear’s is Bear (and Teddy). Bear and his little sister Teddy are the adorable Australian Shepherds that occasionally stop by your table for a pet. I would still come to Bear’s if they were not at the establishment, but I go out of my way to come here because of them.

Nice place to spend an afternoon relaxing with a variety of wines, beers, and they even have non-​alcoholic beer.
If I am ever traveling through the area and with company that wants to take a break from the road, definitely will stop,

An excellent little wine/​beer bar. This is a great little place to enjoy and glass of wine or beer in San Juan Bautista. A comfortable atmosphere inside and outside. The other «drink» establishments in town are less than inviting, dirty, and don’t have the caliber of people you feel comfotable around. Plus, Lori (the owner) and her animals are awesome!

I really enjoy Bear’s Hideaway. Lori, Todd and Bear are wonderful hosts. They have brought together a great list of wines and beers. I haven’t tasted one of the cigars but I’m sure that they are good as well.
This is a place to sit and talk to friend over a good drink.
