This is the best place to see a movie! Comfy seats and you can bring in your own bag of food. They don’t even look! The VIP seats are a bargain at $ 13. Very clean & friendly service. They serve alcohol, as well.

First time here and it was $ 6 all day Tuesday! Saw Kung Fu Panda 3 with my family for just $ 36. Theater was clean and roomy. Sound and viewing quality were both great. Seating is stadium style, which is so nice. Affordable enough to splurge on popcorn and drinks. And they have Cherry Coke! Park in either the structure or across the street lot.

I love this theatre! They were the first in the area to become a luxury theatre and I’m happy to have them here in downtown SJC. I can come with my son and have a family day in the lower regular theatres or treat him with the full luxury experience in the upstairs theatre.
I’ve come to speaking events in the upstairs bar and had girls’ night out with my sisters. Having an adult drink while enjoying a chick flick with your girls… priceless!

Nice upscale theatre with clean comfy leathers seats. Book your tickets online ahead of time to choose your seats. Bonus: on Tuesdays movies are $ 5.50 all day and night (except IMAX or 3D).

watch out for the guy working the ticket booth… he has a nasty attitude towards customers and has bad customer service skills. if you hate your job, then why work there?

This is a gem find for movie theaters in regard to prices, cleanliness, throw back ambience with up to date amenities & current movies! The prices are great especially for a movie theatre where you can select your seats without waiting in line &/​or getting there early for those new movies without cineopilis price tags. There’s a vip screening room upstairs with full bar restaurant. Truly a great date or family night option!

It’s a nice change from the mega plex theatres. It has an old school feel to it and it was an awesome experience watching the Intern. Love it and will be back.

Regency Theatres is a jewel of a theatre located in the center of historic San Juan Capistrano.
I recently visited Regency Theatre to view «Straight Outta Compton» and must admit I was impressed with just about every detail of this theatre. You are able to choose your seats online as well as reserve them with a credit card and the tickets are a steal! ($ 10.50 for matinée) Once inside the theatre you are treated to a full bar complete with craft beers on tap, waiter service with a working kitchen offering burgers, pizza and appetizers, clean reclining seats and an amazing sound system. Every aspect of the theatre is spotless, from the aforementioned bar area upstairs to the bathrooms.
I do not go to the cinema that often but if every one was as great as Regency Theatre, I probably would!

We’ve been to this theater only a couple of times. Today we did not have a good experience. We reserved our seats through fandango. When we got there we were told half the theater had a leaky roof, so we would need new seats. Ok, no big deal, they gave us different seats. Got to our seats and people were sitting there and said they were told to sit there due to the leaky roof. They refused to move. Back to the concession stand to be assigned more seats. Back to the theater. People sitting in our «new» seats. Movie was about to start, so we sit next to them. Along come the people whose seats we are now sitting in. We tell them to please sit somewhere else because we aren’t moving again. The manager (I think?) was extremely unhelpful. The seats we ended up sitting in were nowhere near as good as the seats I paid for. Not their fault the roof was leaking, but why assign two new seat numbers if people are going to already be sitting there? The popcorn was also stale so we asked for a refund. We ordered food from upstairs and was told to get a plastic tray from concessions. When I asked for a tray they said we don’t have them. Ok whatever. The only good thing about our visit today was the nachos we ordered and the nice waitstaff, who went and got us a plastic tray.
Not sure if we’ll be back.

I’m quickly becoming a big fan of this place with their smaller theaters, bigger chairs, and a selection of food and drinks beyond popcorn and soda. It’s right next to the San Juan Cap depot station, sandwiched between the tapas and wine bars by the tracks. What better way to kick-​off an evening with your girlfriends than with Moscow mules, munchies and a Marvel flick? Rick’s is still movie theater food, so adjust your expectations accordingly, but on a sliding scale not too bad.

One of the coolest little theaters I have been too. Has tat old time theater feel to it with a modern flare. Love that there is bar service and a restaurnt all right there

This is a great theatre when you sit in the VIP Room upstairs. You can order a drink and some food and sit in your prearranged seat that you can buy in advance at Fandango.
I want to have a good seat but don’t want to arrive early so this is ideal. It is usually adults that are quiet and courteous and it makes for an enjoyable time.
The first time I went I got the front row and although it seemed a bit loud it was very comfortable and felt like we were the only ones there.
I would recommend this theatre to anyone!

I’ve never written a negative review for a theatre but this place deserved it! A woman had her kids running and screaming while talking on her phone in Spanish during the movie! Yet no employee was to be found… I tried ordering tacos from the empty bar and sat for 10 minutes before being asked to take my order. Not to mention the margarita was Terrible and super salty, and tasted virgin. I couldn’t ever imagine anyone wanting to come here! Save yourself!

A great theatre option. The ticket prices are still reasonable even in the VIP room compared to other theaters *cough* Cinopelis *cough* for the same experience. They have $ 5 movies on Tuesdays but sell out quickly. Love the location in old town San Juan. And love that you can order drinks and food with your movie. Also have happy hour!

My wife and I have been back a half a dozen times since my last review. It’s gotten worse, if that’s possible. The staff at the bar are surely at best.
There are just too many other options nearby to put up with an environment that is the opposite of inviting.
Somebody call me when management changes (again) and we will give it another try. Till then, we are going elsewhere.

I love going on $ 5 Tuesdays! The rooms are pretty small and I feel like for a theater the volume is pretty low. They only have a couple rooms so not many movie options & a bunch of young kids that work here/​run the place. Besides that it’s a pretty standard theater with a great interior design :)

I love this theater since they have redone it. It is super nice and the VIP theater is awesome.
They have a restaurant on the second floor of the theater where you can sit down and eat before hand. You use to be able to order in the theater, but now you order at the restaurant and they can bring it into you.
The seats are large and comfy. They do not recline, but they are still great. And they have their own side tables.
The price is great. Only $ 13 dollars — not much more than a normal movie ticket and you get a more intimate experience with a great chair and food and drinks! The food and drinks aren’t included in the ticket price, but it is a nice option to have.

Drove up to San Juan Capistrano to meet friends for lunch and then we went to see Jersey Boys at this quaint theater right in the center of town, near the train tracks.
The theater had a great remodel, and sitting in the VIP seating area was fab. There are only about 6 rows so row F is the last row, where we were. The view was fine, I would pick row D next time. If you’re farther up you can really lean back. Our chairs leaned back against the wall.
But no matter, had a fine time and really enjoyed the luxurious, beautiful padded leather rocker chairs.
Will definitely be back. From Carlsbad you can take the Coaster and it lets you off about 500 feet from the theater and dining.

We’ve been in this area many times but this is the first time we’ve been to the theater. We really enjoyed it. The staff is very friendly, the theater is really nice and clean.
We went to a matinée so it wasn’t very crowded, we didn’t stand in line long at all even though there’s only one ticket window. The seats in the theater were super comfy and large enough that you don’t feel like your invading any one else space. It’s a smaller theater compared to most others but that was part of the charm. It’s also in a great location, after the movie we walked around and visited a few shops.
We will definitely be back, and hopefully we’ll be able to have dinner at the restaurant next time!

Sometimes you want to watch a movie, and sometimes you want a movie-​going experience. If you would like the former, see a movie at the Regency in their VIP Theatre.
The theatre, itself, is nestled in a small picturesque shopping center, reminiscent of an older bygone day of California. The Regency is part of the growing trend of theaters offering a luxury movie seating. When you buy your VIP tickets, you pick your seats. The VIP Theatre is on the second floor and there is a bar next to it where you can enjoy a drink (or 2) before your movie. The seats in the theatre are extra spacious. Each one comes with a small side table and extra leg room. More room for comfort, less room for cuddling. Imagine a large home theatre that you share with your neighbors. You will most likely pay more to watch a movie here than other places, but if you are feeling fancier then it will be money well spent.
stray observations:
1. One of the urinals in the men’s restroom on the second floor is really high. I am a smaller guy, but the lip of the urinal was nearly up to my chest. there must be a traveling basketball team that loves to watch movies here.
2. They sell those gourmet popcorn in cone shaped containers which are most likely found at sporing events.
