I’ve tried their food a couple times and am always left wanting more. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, but regardless when the food is blah it doesn’t matter how nice the décor is. I will say that tannins pizza is good and they deliver for locals, which is convenient. Food isn’t in large enough quantities or quality enough to charge the prices they do. I’d skip this trip unless you’re just going for wine.

NOT A GREATEXPERIENCE… Let me start off by saying we’ve been here before, and it was much better. But that was not the case tonight. SERVICE: They were crowded tonight, and our server started off apologizing that they had two big parties, so the kitchen was taking at least 30 minutes on everything. We appreciated the heads-up, and were happy to roll with it. We even made sure to order our entrees at the same time as our drinks & appetizer, to give the kitchen extra time. Maybe it was because of having to deal with the two big parties they mentioned, but the wait staff didn’t do a good job. When they seated us in the patio, they offered to turn on the heater. Didn’t do it – we had to remind them. There was a place setting for only two of the three people in our party — had to flag someone down to ask for a napkin & fork after our meals arrived. Had to ask three times(finally flagging down the busboy) for sweetener for my wife’s iced tea. Had to flag people down for drink refills. They offered to bring more bread… never brought it. The appetizer took a long time; when someone brought it, he apologized and said the server wrote the wrong table on the order. The server also brought our check early(before our desserts arrived), but then we had to wait around longer after we were done with dessert for her to pick it back up & run our card. The other thing I noticed about our service was that the table right next to ours got two times the attention. I actually started counting after our entrees arrived and sure enough, two trips to their table for every one trip to ours. It’s not like we were ordering cheap food — our bill was $ 138 for three of us, and it’s not like we were unpleasant either… FOOD: Their bruscetta is always good. I had the ribeye, which was fine(not great, but not bad either). Daughter had ravioli, which she said was good. But my wife had the surf & turf special(lobster tail & filet), which she nearly sent back. She said the lobster was mushy and flavorless, and the steak was a lot tougher than a filet has any right to be. I was suggesting we go somewhere else for dessert, but we stayed just because it was getting late and we were already there. I’ll also note that the restaurant was nearly empty by the time we left, but the service was consistently poor all the way through — so it;s not like the big crowds were causing them to drop the ball. Overall…I like this restaurant, we’ve been several times, and I wouldn’t want one bad experience to color my judgment. If this was our first time there, we’d never go back. As it is, it’s probably going to be a while — there are plenty of other places that are CONSISTENTLY good.

Came in for happy hour today. Ordered petite lamb chops and they were the perfect size. Very generous on the veggies. The flatbread is also a fav! Must try

Love the Tannin salad with blackened chicken. It is a must try. Happy to see Veal is back on their specials for this week. They also have a great wine selection. Ask for their bottle list.

Came here with my husband the other day and loved the place. The device was nice and the food was yummy. My husband ordered the saffron Paella and I had the spaghetti and meatballs. Both dishes were great! They sat us in the little room called«the cave» and it was so cute(literally looked like you were eating in a classy cave). Will definitely be coming here again.

Tannins is in good location for folks in the San Juan, Sendero and Ladera areas. Easy access from the 5 and Ortega. Apps were ok, calamari wasn’t bad but not outstanding either. I had the Bolognese which was good but my friends came just for desert. The tiramisu and a cannoli, delicious! For a Saturday night it was dead at 10:30, so I would not come for the nightlife. We’ll have to try it again during the busy hours.

I always have great service and food when my husband and I go to tannins for dinner. Also the wine selection is amazing. The lasts time we were there the bartender jessica and I got to talking about how I was raising money for my sons school. She had the manager come by and he donated a bottle of wine and a $ 50 gift certificate to our golf tournament!!! It was a huge hit too! Thank you again jessica for going out of your way to make our day and year!!! Looking forward to our next date night so we can visit again. Oh and if you’re looking for suggestions on food-The filet, shrimp Scampi, tannins salad, and chicken Marsala are amazing. These are my go to’s

Service was great, but food is average at best. I’ve eaten here over a dozen times and have never written a review because nothing was worth writing about. Despite getting food poisoning twice, I’ve continued to use them for other dishes that were safer. The truth is that the delivery is the only redeeming quality we thoroughly enjoy. Until last night when they dropped the ball on a delivery for a large party I was hosting. Delivery never made it as a result of their internal error, and no one was there to take accountability to make it right. The owner Gabriel so graciously calls me on my cell and I’m assuming he’s going to make things right. WRONG, he starts threatening me with knowing where I live and accuses me of writing false reviews on Unilocal.I’ve decided to update my previous review with the complete story of this establishments normal practices.

So yummy! Service was ok but the excellent food made up for the service. Had Halibut with asparagus & veggies which was delicious!!! Every one in our party loved their meals as well as incredible dessert-crème brûlée, New York cheesecake & Chocolate Lava cake that was to Die for.

This is still and alway has been one of mine and families favorite place. My kids love the shrimp, bread dip and pasta. I love the weekly specials always giving their guest new exciting menue items with wine to pair. With young kids its not always easy finding a yummy restaurant that are sweet to my kids. Tanya was super kind and engaging with the kids giving them coloring sheets and making sure mom and dad were happy too. This is a place we Crave all the time its a must try!

Got an email for the wine tasting so we decided to come in, forgot to make a reservation but they were able to accomodate us Had some good wines to taste, good cabs and a good pinot noir(cant remember the names) the wine tasting came with some an appetizer plate, which included ahi, to me thats a wining combination. Ended up staying for dinner with our friends, they had seafood paella, squash ravioli, bbq pizza and i had tannins pizza(i added peperoni) all food was great, no complaints They had some live music which made it more enjoyable To finish the night we had some canoli and a nice lava cake. Will keep coming back since our night was great, we all enjoyed the service shawn and briana gave us, the food/atmosphere were great We will definetly keep coming back

Gally & I both had spinach salad which was delicious. Pook had fruit, bread & bites of salmon. Go Pook! We steered clear of wine but they have a great selection. The best part of this place was the waiter — Clay. He was so cordial & extremely, extremely, extremely,(did I say extremely?) handsome! He just made my 3rd birthday celebration btr by telling me he loved my dress!

Tannins is a cute little restaurant thats pretty easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Its located on Ortega hwy in a fairly small plaza on a hill. I went in for happy hour and i had a couple of drinks and a filet. The filet was very juicy and almost melted in my mouth. It was very lean just the way i liked it. The portion was perfect because i was on a diet at the time and this was the perfect little meal. Id definitely come back again for happy hour.
