The Bicycle Mechanic is a full service bicycle mechanic shop and bicycle fitting studio. We offer the latest Retul 3D Fitting service to our clients. We can help you fit your current bike or fit you for a bike you haven’t even purchased yet! We also work on all makes and models of road bikes, mountain bikes and cyclocross bicycles. We service all parts from Campagnolo, Shimano and Sram as well. The Bicycle Mechanic has a full menu of service options including professional coaching. Please call us with any questions!

History

Established in 2012.

Thank you for considering The Bicycle Mechanic for your next bicycle service or custom build. My name is Chris Lombardo, I own the shop and I am a professional bicycle mechanic. This is my business and you deal directly with me. Please know that your complete satisfation is my goal. I have almost 25 years of cycling experience and it is my passion! I am experienced and trained to work on all makes and models of bicycles (not just the ones I sell). Whether it’s a minor tune-​up or a major overhaul, you can count on me to take care of you and your bike. I am proud to be a graduate of United Bicycle Institute and a USA Cycling Certified Coach.

Where are you from/​where do you live: From Bedford, NH. I lived in Miami, FL for about 10 years and now call Southern California home.

Riding Experience: Starting riding at the age of 12. I couldn’t throw or catch a ball to save my life but had spectacular balance. Watching Greg LeMond win his first Tour de France inspired me to ask my Mom for a sweet road bike. I remember it was a red Sterling with friction shifters. I never brought it back to the shop to be fixed, I tore it apart and rebuilt it a million times! I was hooked!

Most essential equipment to have with you when you ride: A good pair of shorts, helmet and a righteous bike!

Advice to newbie’s: Beyond anything else have fun! Don’t get sucked into what works for everyone else. If it works for you, enjoy!

I am brand new to road biking (you can probably tell because I called it that). I purchased a hand me down cycle from a buddy and went on a group ride where someone pulled up next to me (I was obviously that ‘new’) and throughout the ride gave me all kinds of tips and pointers. the best of which was to go see Chris @ ‘The Bike Mechanic’ in San Juan Capistrano.
I called Chris and without knowing who I was or why I was calling he treated me like a long lost friend that he was happy to reacquaint with. I called back several times over the next couple of days for advice on purchasing used parts and he gave me real advice, there was no pressure to come in and buy parts from him.
I set up an appointment to have a fitting done and have my new wheel tuned up; especially since I had changed the wheels, Brakes and stem with absolutely no idea what I was doing. He got my steed all set up for the fitting then spent over three hours making micro adjustments to my bike to ensure it would work the best it could for me.
I cannot say enough about the care and attention I received at his shop. He not only has a customer for life, but also a friend. I have only met him once but if he were to call me tomorrow and need help moving — I would be there in a minute; no pizza required.

Chris is top notch in every way. Cyclists in south county should consider themselves lucky to have such a knowledgeable, friendly cycle guru at their service. He was able to resolve a difficult head set mystery on my DeRosa King 3RS. His service is fast and pricing is extremely fair. Highly recommended!

Chris deserves my first Unilocal review, too.
I live in San Juan Capistrano and was so pleasantly surprised to find Chris and his shop. He reminds of the town cobbler — modest, experienced, skilled and more interested in his customers than churning out a long invoice. He is a delight in dealing with. He took the time to learn what I needed and then did only that repair on my bike that was necessary.
Now, here is an extraordinary experience that I challenge you to find anywhere else in fast paced O.C. On the Saturday before Christmas, I was pedaling around San Juan and noticed my chain skipping. I called Chris in case his shop was open on the weekend. I wasn’t surprised when it wasn’t, but I was surprised after I left a phone message when he called me back and offered to meet me in the shop. He fixed the bike and took me outside to watch me test ride it.
If you value your bike as I do, I’m sure you will find him a tremendous asset here In San Juan Capo and you will want to give him the repair and purchase business, so that he can stay in business for us enthusiasts, providing such remarkable personal, attentive and seasoned service.

I stumbled across the shop while looking for a BMC dealer (there are only two in OC) and was surprised to find it’s only a few miles from my house and I never even knew it. I stopped by, met Chris, and told him what I was looking for. He looked it up on his computer and gave me a price that was considerably less than the advertised sale price of the other OC shop, and cheaper than I could find online as well.
I’m really happy with the bike, the price, and the service. Chris is very knowledgeable about every aspect of cycling which is refreshing because so many of the employees at the big chain bike stores give me the impression that they don’t have enough experience and knowledge.

Chris is great! He was extremely helpful and gave me a ton of very valuable information. Took my bike in to get fitted and he let me know that my bike is actually too big for me. Chris was very honest and told me he didn’t want me to waste money on fitting a bike that was too big from the start. He watched me pedal on the trainer for a bit and took a few measurements and was able to give me some pointers and suggestions free of charge. I went home and made the adjustments that he suggested and my ITB pain has stopped bothering me. I am definitely planning on going back to get my next bike fitted here and may even purchase that bike from him.

Chris is an absolute cycling enthusiast who brings his passion for bikes to work everyday. I am very impressed by the level of knowledge and personal touch he offers. I have been to shops in the past where the mechanics rotate through, or they have a 22 year old doing all the work in back. Not here! And don’t let the name throw you off, he can also help you purchase any accessory, apparel, or components you need.

So far Chris has worked on two bikes for us and has done really fantastic work. My husband is very picky about his bikes and will not just take them to anyone. You certainly can trust Chris. He takes his work very seriously and does very clean, throrough, precise work. I have even seen him do custom work in his shop. We also took our daughter’s new purchase, a nearly 20 year old professional bike, and made it ride like new for a very reasonable price.
Don’t bother searching any further if you are looking for a friendly, professional, skilled bicycle mechanic. He also sells some beautiful bikes too.

Bike Mechanic tuned up our vintage Ibis road bike and did an amazing job. My husband and I were really impressed by the quality of his work and attention to detail. Bike is better than new. Highly recommend him.
