TeachBar specializes in tutoring, test prep and small workshops focused on enriching a student’s academic experience. Tutoring includes math, science, and English Language Arts topics. TeachBar test prep specializes in SAT, ACT, HSPT, CSET and other standardized tests. Its small classes are enrichment based to help students expand their horizons in all different subjects. TeachBar thrives off being affordable, accessible, appealing, and advantageous.

History

Established in 2009.

TeachBar is a learning lounge where local students, parents, and other community members meet, exchange ideas, and discover new insights. As a community-​learning hub, TeachBar acts as a third-​place to learn, refresh and connect.

Started in 2009, TeachBar has served an average of 500 students a year at its center and local schools all around the East Bay including Berkeley, Castro Valley, Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward and Fremont areas.

TeachBar stays encouraged when students get their desired score on a classroom or national standardized tests. Moreover, TeachBar appreciates the relationships it has established with the students, parents and communities that it serves.

We’ve been going to TeachBar on MacArthur for help with AP Calculus for two months and in that time my son’s test grades have gone from Ds to As. He loves the instructor and understands the material immediately and the atmosphere is great for learning. We’ll use them for all of our tutoring needs from now on in any subject — can’t recommend them enough.

You’ve got to be kidding me right? Teachbar? Oh man, I couldn’t even believe it. Seeing a place like Teachbar being opened up in this area is like a divine treasure. More people need to know about this place.

Inside the Bayfair mall is pretty dismal. But Teachbar strikes me as a beckon of light. As I’m passing through the mall (too cold to walk outside from Target to where I parked today) and wondering what type of business could actually thrive there… as well as if I should hit up the drive thru Starbucks, I see this great concept café. Loose leaf tea was nice as well as the server. Several people on the back room studying, and yay for a chessboard too. The coffee situation could be improved. They use a single serve machine, but would probably be better off brewing 1 cup at a time the way those super hip coffee purveyors (bicycle, blue bottle, verve, whoever is cooler than them now) do. It would cost them less money than those pods and taste better. Coffee isn’t really their thing though, it’s clear that they’ve geared their selection to the teenage kids (cup o noodle!) that are there most. Which is good, know your customer. In short, if you’re running errands over there, pop in for a tea to support this business. Would be great to see it grow.

Considering I’m the first to review, I’ll give this place five stars! Just kidding… That’s not the ONLY reason…
Located in the Bayfair Mall this place is a great alternative for young teens. Instead of loitering and doing deviant things, people of all ages can come to enjoy some games of chess, study, or relax while drinking some awesome tea. I was just there with my kids and tried their Drink of the Day for only $ 1, which was the Black Cherry Iced Tea, your choice of either black or green tea. Now this was my first time there, so I wasn’t all for spending mucho dinero for what I wasn’t sure about, but that Black Cherry tea was soooo good, we went back for more. Seriously, we were done before we got out of the store. Great Tea, Great Concept, Great Job… Brava!
