This review is for the Banh Mi sandwiches: The Vietnamese sandwiches here are not only expensive but not that tasty. When I lived in San Lorenzo, I was always scouring for banh mi sandwiches since my little brother loves them but there were never any good ones in town and My Tho is no exception. The sandwiches aren’t fresh, and the bread is stale sometimes. They don’t use good sauce or fresh mayo and there is no pâté in the sandwiches! Tucked away in the same shopping plaza that SiSi’s, Subway, Lil’ Ceasars and Lee’s Laundromat is, I’m guessing they get most of their traffic from the plaza, rather than regulars coming back. 2 stars, really nothing to try here.

Fast and ok service. Extremely inexpensive for good portions(for someone my size, I’m 5’3″ and 98lbs). Really good Vietnamese sandwiches. Good for lunch or dinner. They even sell cans of grass jelly drinks, which I love! And how many places in the area sell grass jelly?! For the true phở lovers though, this would probably be less than satisfying.

The phở is okay, pretty bland and not so great. Came here for Vietnamese sandwiches once and it took them a while to make. Overall, the food here is okay. I would not eat here unless I was desperately hungry!

For some reason I keep coming back and giving this place another shot. The food here is very bland compared to all the other Vietnamese spots around. The bread for the sandwiches are never fresh. The broth for the phở is way too gingery and the springrolls are super dry. To top it off, they’re pricier than most spots.

I always go here to get my Vietnamese fix on the fly. I gotta agree with my fellow Unilocalers in saying«yes, it’s not the best, but it gets it done». The phở and rice plates are decent, but the bun thit nuong is good(I’m a huge advocate for the loads of grilled pork they serve). One thing that was a turn off were the spring rolls, although the rolls were good, the peanut sauce was off in color and taste. I’ll keep going back though… does that mean I have mediocre standards? Na, eating mediocre often just makes you appreciate the good stuff even more!

This is my go to spot, phở sho!!!(hehee) I know, I know… not top notch in terms of décor, service, blah-blah, but this is MY review… Hubby and I hit this place up on the regular… they have just enough customers to keep it around, but not too many to where you have to wait for-ev-errrr for your table and meal. Love the Vermacelli bowl(Bun), their grilled chicken is awesome! Egg-rolls are a bit on the greasy side,(yes, egg rolls are greasy, but these go a little crazy) prawns(or shrimp, whatever) are yum and don’t taste like they were kickin it in the freezer prior to arriving on top of my noodles. So, yeah, good place.

I thought this place was alright. We don’t have much for Vietnamese cuisine in San Lorenzo, so it was nice to see one pop up. The phở is okay, but the banh mi was pretty good for the price. Super friendly people in here, and a it’s pretty nice for a small phở house.

Yeah– not the best around. We stopped here ’cause we wanted Phở and didn’t feel like driving too far from our destination in San Leandro. The people there were nice enough, but the Phở tasted like it was made of some generic chicken broth. It didn’t have a distinct flavor at all, and none of us were impressed with the meal overall.

Not too shabby. Considering there aren’t any other Phở joints in the San Lorenzo/Hayward area, it’s decent. I’m not sure what it was… but overall it could be better.

So in a desperate attempt to find a good local spot for banh mi, my trek has brought me to My Tho. I came here today with my olé’ buddy Dwight C.(The Ultimate Warrior from the Unilocal PLEY Holiday Party) and we decided to give the place a shot. We read the menu posted outside, $ 2.75 for banh mi… Not bad, cheaper that Tu Tai from yesterday. However, they charge another 50 cents to dine-in! What is up with that? You want to charge me 50 cents to sit down and eat my sandwich? There goes the first star deduction right away! I end up getting a banh mi dac biet and a strawberry shake. I swear it took forever for the guy to make the shake. I don’t think they have a blender strong enough to crush the ice because I think he put the ice into an ice shaver before putting it into the blender. Well the tapioca pearls in my drink were all stuck together and I almost gave myself an aneurysm trying to take my first sip. So after the 15 minute shake prep, he starts or sandwiches. Another 10 minutes go by and we finally get our order, which I have to drive back to Dwight’s house to eat because I didn’t want to pay 50 cents to eat at their location. I unwrapped my sandwich and had to look twice to find it. «What is this? A banh mi for ANTS!» This was by far the smallest banh mi I have ever had. Dwight then notices that they didn’t cut the sandwich in half, well duh, it’s soooooooooo small that it didn’t need to be cut in half. I take a peek inside and was somewhat surprised, julienned carrots and daikon with a good daikon ratio! Way better than Tu Tai and their grated carrots and barely existent daikon. So I finish my sandwich and realize that I am in a bit of excruciating pain. The jalapenos weren’t cleaned properly. The seeds were left on the jalapeño and caused my mouth to burn soooooo badly that I needed Kurt Russell and William Baldwin to help put out the fire!(When was the last time you saw a «Backdraft» reference?) In fact I am sucking on an ice cube while writing this review! All in all another disappointment in the local banh mi establishments! BTW — weird décor in the place! There is a wooden ornament of a woman breastfeeding a child on the wall and an empty RUNNING fish tank with a fake hermit crab inside. Strange…

Not the best place to get Vietnamese food. The Grilled Pork was very bland. The Phở was just okay compared to many places and the pork chops were very tasteless. Also, the tapioca drinks are aweful. They are not fresh and the pearls are frozen. The décor of the place is very blah and service was slow. On a good note, if you want a decent, not great, but decent Vietnamese sandwich, you can get them here. However, I would rather go to Lee’s.

on sunday, i was the 2nd customer at 12. sparse white walls with cutout images of vietnamese women is the décor in this place entrée: phở tai gan(5.75, 6.75) got the large pros –bean sprouts/veggies served on red themed oval plate, teaspoon was blue colored. sauce plate was a small sauce cup. chopstick was individualized. pointed ends made it difficult to pick up anything. –seems dining room ends are met by buying the cheapest utensil possible. –couldn’t tell what the comped tea was. it was jasmine plus an unknown ingredient. cons –broth was sweet tasting and clear, mostly msg and sugar enhanced. –only about 5 – 6 spoonful of phở which was stuck together when served. –7 pieces of stuck together tai(eagle dollar sized) previously frozen eye round., 4 piece gan. –menu pricey. sandwiches(2.75) costs .50 more if you eat in. –i don’t usually eat much for lunch. after this phở, i was still hungry.

This is a great little vietnamese restaurant, and the name is funny too. I usually get the Bun Bo hue and its pretty good for not being homemade. I get it very spicy and it taste just right. The lotus root salad and the raw beef with lime sauce is excellent. I usally get those on a friday night when im about to drink with my buddys. Phở is alright here but I have had better. Food: Good Service: Good Price: Decent 3 Stars for My Tho(ChuckL)

Good Vietnamese is a rarity in San Leandro and this is one of about 3 or 4 in the city. I don’t think this place even deserves 1 star. I went and it was just plain silly how much the food costs! I know how much these dishes should cost, and this place is just pricey for what you end up getting. The sandwiches were poorly made and the phở didn’t even taste like phở! Boo, for this place. Check out Tu Tai off Fairway for better food.

This is the second branch of the original My Tho in Newark. I love it because it’s so conveniently located near my sister’s place in North Hayward /Cherryland. Zip over the freeway, thru some residential backroads, and I’m there in less than 5 minutes! I’ve only had the opportunity to run in and grab their Banh Mi, but my good friend tells me that they only get Vietnamese food here(or at the Newark location), so the rest must be good. Just perusing the take-out menu I brought back, there’s already a few items I want to try! They don’t have the same wide selection of Banh Mi as the Lee’s Sandwiches chain(only 6 choices), but they warm up their hoagie-like French bread so that it’s soft. I believe they also use a little pâté too. I recommended the BBQ Pork and Sardine Sandwiches! Fantastico. ***** UPDATE: 05÷19÷07(date of meal) ***** So I finally ordered their phở. um, ew. Not good! Instead of being rich and beefy, the soup was light and. peppery? Is that normal? I should’ve just gone to the place on Mission. I noticed they had a hue-style phở, but I’m hesitant to try any of their noodle soups now. Why waste a meal on something you don’t like? The sandwiches remain delicious. I would hope their rice plates or bun are good too. but who knows at this point. They are still very nice people there, so only –1 star.
