Envision Optometry is proud to be San Luis Obispo County’s primary eyecare facility for the Veteran’s Administration.

Appointments

Every effort is made to schedule appointments as soon as possible. Unavoidable changes in the office schedule may occur due to unforeseen emergencies. The office staff will contact you as soon as possible if your appointment needs to be changed.

History

Established in 1996.

Beginning with Dr. B Jeffrey Blue O.D. in 1982 and then merging practices with Dr. Glenn N. Graham in 1998. Dr. Jason D. Chang O.D. joined the practice in 2007, and has become the managing partner as of October 2014.

Dr. Krista M. Martin O.D., F.A.A.O joined the practice in 2015. Previously, she served our nations veterans as the chief of optometry at the Santa Maria Veterans Affairs clinic for the past 10 years.

Dr. Jason D Chang O.D.is the new managing business partner of EnVision Optometry beginning October 2014. He is excited to bring positive changes and improvements to an established and trusted practice.

This business worked together with another company in San Luis Obispo. I was in a bad situation… being Friday and having a broken corner on the end of one temple of my glasses. I was referred to Bryce by a lady who worked at another store, and this became all about helping a customer who needed a difficult temporary repair. This business actually gave me a part to use until Monday when my new frame would arrive! customer service and care is alive and well! on Monday, I returned the borrowed part, paid a small service fee, and returned the pert which may help another customer. Thank you so much! And, I received a thank you for returning the part as I said I would!

We have been going to Envision for years for all of our vision needs. Everything is GREAT here from the location to its doctors, to its front desk team. And let’s not forget Tilia, an expert fitter who helped me pick out amazing new frames. I, just this week, had an eye drama and they saw me right away. Super nice and professional people.

I always enjoy coming here. It is central, there is good parking, and the interior is clean and appealing. Dr. Chang is a pleasant experience every time: personable and knowledgeable. I have not had very much interaction with the front staff except ordering contacts, which has been painless and timely. I am now trying out contacts for astigmatism; something I thought was leagues out of my price range. Turns out, it’s not that much. Wish someone had told me earlier.

Dr. Chang was great. Took his time with me and explained everything well.
The receptionists were a little flaky. I stood up a the counter practically in front of one of them and she acknowledged the UPS guy, took something from him and went to the back all without speaking to me. Finally the other girl took care of me but she had no clue how to order contacts or that there were rebates associated with them… someone else had to help her. Then, the girl who did eye tests on me kept changing where I was suppose to sit. She seemed confused on the process. Are these people trained?
Luckily they did order my contacts and they came in within 2 business days. Hopefully next time, they’ll know how to handle customers properly.

This review is long overdue. I had put off getting an eye exam for quite some time but figured it was time for a new prescription. Dr Chang has a very easy going and approachable demeanor that made the whole exam pretty effortless. He nailed the new prescription and helped clear up a minor dry eye issue I had been experiencing. Hats off to the lab as well for getting the new lenses into a rather tricky pair of wood and buffalo horn frames. Overall great experience.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to an eye doctor. I’ve always been terrified to see an optometrist because I never wanted glasses or anything to be wrong with my eye sight. Upon my arrival I was put at ease by the lovely office and kind staff. Dr. Chang is very easy to talk with and puts you at ease. It turns out that I indeed needed glasses :/​I chose a lovely pair of glasses and got them around 3 days later. Quick huh! Then I decided I needed to try contacts because glasses got in my way at my job. Dr. Chang did beautifully at handling my disappointment with my first pair of contacts he gave me. He said I got a botched pair of contacts and assured me that the new pair would be better. I trusted him and yes they were better but not perfect. He is doing his utmost to get me to my perfect pair of contacts! Being hesitant to see an optometrist Dr. Chang has helped me over come my fear and my sight clear. All around great optometrist.

Dr. Blue is a wonderful optometrist. I recommend him highly. I was particularly looking for mono contact lenses and he found the right match and did not give up on me! He is also just a really nice man. Overall, he was interested in what I had to say and treated me like I knew what I was talking about.

I came to see Dr. Graham before he left, the Exam was great and the doctor made no changes to my prescription. The issue I have is that the glasses I purchased for $ 300 were complete garbage; I could not wear them because they gave me a headache.
I complained several times, saw the doctor again, and still the glasses were not right. I just gave up on Envision because they could not make the glasses right. I just went to Costco and bought glasses there.
Additionally, the Office seems to be profit motivated. I paid in full when I ordered the glasses, but at pick-​up time I was asked to pay an additional $ 20 due to an error.

Dr. Blue is such a nice guy! You can tell he loves what he does. He recognized me from when I had gone in a year earlier for my first visit. Not only did he remember my face remembered where I was going to schools and took interest in what I was studying. Since he graduated from cal poly you can tell he rally love the community and area! He also took time to help me look at frames after our appointment.

Dr. Cheng took over for Dr. Graham and he has been great. He caught some things with my son’s eyes that no one caught before so I am very grateful to have him taking care of my son’s vision.

I am new to the area and took my 14 year old daughter to Dr. Chang at Envision for her first full eye exam ever. The staff that helped us out were amazing and very thorough. Dr. Chang was such a positive person to deal with and could really relate to my daughter’s needs. I was SO impressed that I scheduled an appointment for myself the same week! I experienced the same great service and our glasses were ready in record breaking time! I would recommend Dr. Chang to anyone looking for amazing eye care!

Our whole family loves Envision Optometry, we have been going there for over five years now! Drs Graham and Blue are amazing, though Dr. Graham recently retired. He is replaced by Dr. Chang, who is fantastic as well! The office is large, modern, classy and clean. The staff are helpful, though some of them can be a little cold at times. But mostly they are very nice and competent! They have a ton of glasses to choose from, in lots of different price ranges and have great lens upgrades available. They are a little more expensive than, say, Costco Optical, but the quality of service is worth it in my opinion! I will continue to go here for as long as possible :)

Poor scheduling: Every time I’ve gone in for an appt (5 times), the wait was ridiculously long, 30 – 45 minutes. Once is an anomaly, but several times a horrible pattern. Makes you feel like they do not value your time.
Financial integrity questionable: They charge THREE TIMES the amount for the SAME contacts that are at Costco.
So for one year’s supply, i would be charged $ 150 at costco vs. $ 400 at Envision! How does that even make any sense?
High Employee turnaround: In the past two years, I’ve seen the front desk person change twice and the tech person change twice. High turnaround means bad wirk environment.
Moving on to another place of business.

I just moved into town and was looking for an optometrist. I loved the reviews on envision and called. They were able to fit me in for a same day appointment which is great due to my busy work schedule. I had my exam done by Dr. Blue. Amazing staff! great location. Great collection of frames. I was in and out in under an hour exam and new frames picked out. I would recommend this place to EVERYONE. Go. You will not be disappointed!
Ps Dr. Blue gets my vote for favorite optometrist of all time, which is saying something considering I’ve been wearing glasses since the age of 7. Very kind and informative sharing all of the results of your exam with you in an easy to understand way.

Very nice doctors. However, I felt a little ripped off. They have my insurance information and know that it covers an exam with a $ 25 copay. When I’m finished they ask for $ 50. When I ask why, they said the extra $ 25 was for some additional peripheral vision test they did that insurance doesn’t cover. Don’t you think the professional way to handle this would be to tell me up front that this is extra test is not covered so I can decide if I need it?
Feels shady, but to give them the benefit of the doubt, I should have said that I wasn’t paying for it since they didn’t tell me about it in advance, and give them the chance to take it off my bill. I didn’t do that though since I just don’t like confrontations. I’ll just complain here like an internet troll.
I will go back, but I’m not letting them do anything my insurance doesn’t cover again. I just need to cheapest way to get my prescription written on a piece of paper.

Glen Graham and his staff run a top flight operation. All kinds of great new equipment and the knowledge to use them and explain it all! The receptionist, Kate, is terrific on the phone and in person. If you need an eye exam and glasses — this is the place. Really, when I was done, it seemed like I was part of the family!
