Did my best friends wedding make up and hair for the bridal party! They were so friendly, fun, and talented! We had the pleasure of getting our makeup done by Megan and Jennifer, and our hair done by Cassie and Courtney! Thanks so much ladies! You are the bomb!

Carlos is a boss! He gave me a killer haircut and had me lookin fresh as fuckkkkkkkkk. Friendly staff and cool waiting area. Free parking on the streets surrounding the salon.

I’ve been going to «Faces» for about 8 yrs now. The salon is very «hip», has great décor, free parking (!), and super Friendly staff! I get my hair cut by REBECCA, who is awesome! I can bring in a pic of a hair color or cut and she makes it happen. Fully satisfied!

My wedding party and I had our hair and make up done here for the big day. From the very beginning of my experience with Faces, I was quite pleased. They went beyond what I found with other SLO salons with following up on emails, sending additional examples of past weddings they’d done, and generally being quite accessible for additional questions. For reference, I worked directly with Shannon and Teresa.
As for the hair and make up? Even better. We had Megan and Jennifer for make up and Jordy for hair. All were incredible, smart, funny, and talented women. Such a pleasure to hang out with them the day of my wedding. They made us feel welcome and at ease.
Such a lovely experience, I couldn’t recommended them higher for a bride to be!

Ok. Fine. I take it back. This place has won me over. Thomas Setser cuts hair like a god. He is worth every penny and then some. Best of SLO, by far.

Came here to get extensions with Anita. I love my hair and I love Anita. She is a doll. She is super sweet to work with and she really does a wonderful job. If you are looking to get extensions this is a great place. I will definitely be continuing to get my hair done with Anita… she rocks!

I have been coming to Faces to get my hair done for the past couple years now & am always happy with it.
I love the fact that you get a reminder call the day before your appointments, we all have busy lives and sometimes you need that reminder! Plus the free bang trim (and neck if your hairs get cut short) is fab for the time between cuts.
I went short with my cut in the last 6 months & the amount of compliments I’ve gotten on my lovely cut & color is crazy.

After posting my review, Salon Manager, Teresa got in touch with me. Within three hours, she had researched the situation to find that there was a miscommunication between the make-​up artist and the receptionist who did the monetary transaction. Teresa assured me that the prices posted were accurate, and she immediately corrected the error by refunding the money to my sister.
Thank you to Teresa for her prompt and careful attention to the matter. Much appreciated.

Courtney’s been doing my hair for over ten years. She does my mom’s, sister’s and many of my friends’ hair. We’d be lost and ugly without her!
You’ll never find a hair stylist that fits so easily into your life and understands what you need.
The Salon is an incredible blend of modern and natural DIY touches and they sell some quality products.

I love my hair! Kate gave me perfect natural looking highlights and layers that aren’t to long or to short. I left faces looking exactly how I was hoping I would look!

Curtis is our new go-​to guy for hair! After a couple of humiliating kid haircuts on the Mesa, we decided we needed to get into SLO and find a professional. Last August we went in and got cut by 3 different stylists. While we were happy w/​all 3, the cut by Curtis really stood out. A few months later he did my husband’s hair and he looked great.
We slacked on getting haircuts again until this last week. Curtis cut both of my little peeps’ hair and a few days later did mine. My girls look like little superstars! He took my mess and gave me what I’m now thinking of as a «Kristen Schaal.» That’s a super cute look for me and I love it (although I DO look a little like Beethoven in the morning.).
Update: My kids have been getting raves from everyone for their cool hair. It may seem silly but having low-​maintenance, good-​looking hair can really mean a lot to tweens. They look fabulous!

Absolutely amazing salon. They are super friendly everyone has years of experience. Very spacious do no be fooled by the outside. They are currently working on a business «facial» so to speak. Happy to hear because their logo is dated. Something that will draw in a younger clientele I will say now.
Followed by hair stylist here. She is amazing. Ask for Jordy. She’s edgy and knows how to style an amazing haircut. I’ve taken three friends to her, all are repeat clients with different textured hair
Bumble and bumble products for very reasonable prices. Low markup.

Staff was friendly enough. They fit me in when I called the morning of. But haircut was pretty awful. I have thin straight hair, and have had good layers before that make my hair look wonderful, but now it just looks choppy and uneven.
Stylist didn’t really spend much time looking to see how she had cut it. Sides are different lengths, and there are some chunks hanging out the bottom. I told her to fix a couple (that I could see in the front) when I was there, but I couldn’t see the back.
When I told my husband I got a haircut, he said, «I thought it looked a bit uneven». This was before I told him where, and how much I spent — 60 $ plus tip. Ughh. What a scam!

I’m new to the area, and being a constant nomad, I’m always searching for a great place to get my hair done. After looking at the Unilocal reviews, I decided to try this place out.
One of the factors that got me in was that the prices aren’t too steep. The website says $ 85 for full highlights, which really isn’t bad at all.
I went in and saw Heather, a pretty, blonde, outspoken, tattooed hairstylist who was nothing less than awesome. I told her I wanted blended layers and blended full highlights with blonde and red tones. She suggested an auburn for the red because red fades so fast and I told her I trusted her and to go for it.
We had an engaging conversation throughout our entire appointment. There was never a dull point or feeling of awkwardness. She’s amazing! She was also very client-​conscious and made sure I was always comfortable and never in any pain (from detangling or whatnot). When she washed my hair, she did a gentle neck rub and I was absolutely in heaven.
The salon has a funky Urban Outfitters-​esque feel to it. It used to be a house so it has all these rooms, which was fun to navigate. The salon was busy (which is always a good sign). Women were all having conversations and laughing and it felt like the perfect social environment for a salon. You truly feel like you are having a salon day.
When she was done, I was completely satisfied with my hair. It was exactly what I wanted and she even kept my length while managing to trim all my split ends off (usually hairstylists just chop my hair to shoulder length).
I’ve been getting tons of compliments on my hair and people have asked me where I got it done. Its a great feeling and I will surely be returning to Faces & Alamode.
Oh and by the way, they don’t try to pressure you intensely to buy product (which I found was a nice surprise and added to the relaxing feel of my visit).
It was a thoroughly relaxing and positive experience. I would recommend this to everyone, men and women alike!
*Wanted to add an edit — in the past few months I’ve realized that I actually don’t like the way the layers were done. They ended up being kind of choppy and don’t really compliment my face. There was also some bleeding in my color.

I was in major need of a haircut and after much deliberation, I decided to go to Faces instead of Hep Kat, which I am glad I did! I called in the night before and scheduled an appointment with Victoria.
The salon is located in between downtown and the Madonna area with a nice little parking lot in the back. I enjoyed the set up of the place as it reminded me of the 1940’s.
Upon arrival, I was greeted nicely and only had to wait a couple of minutes. Victoria was adorable and extremely friendly! I explained to her the general idea of what I wanted and she was able to talk me through and give me good ideas.
I ended up with probably my most favorite haircut yet! My hair looked fantastic and smelled wonderful! I am definitely going back to Faces with Victoria! I know that it may be a bit pricey but it is well worth it and they do free bang trims.

Ok so Melissa kicks ass. Basically– that’s all there is to it. Sadly I no longer live in the area so I don’t see her anymore, but I would recommend her to anyone. She cuts great hair, does amazing color (like really amazing– I would often get stopped in the street by strangers asking me who did my hair). PLUS she’s really good at telling you when something is not gonna work. Also she (Melissa) helps people who are «styling challenged» like me– she really makes an effort to explain how to get the same results at home.
Anyways she’s the best! Go see her!

This whole place is great. Large salon with cool furnishings. Nice and friendly staff. I was greeted right when I walked in and offered some refreshments while I waited for Skylae.
The first time I came here about a year ago, and was looking for a change. Had a VERY vague idea of what I wanted. Told her blonde highlights, but not too blonde, and pretty much let her take it from there. I recall telling her «whatever you think will look best.»
A couple hours later, my hair was dyed and cut. It looked great in the salon, though I was a bit shocked at how light my hair was (it was originally straight black). I just thought I needed some time to get used to it.
The next day, I decided it was still too light for my taste, and gave the salon a call. Again, very friendly receptionist. I explained the problem and she made an appointment to get it fixed in the next few days.
I show up, Skylae puts some more toner to make it darker, and I’m out quick. No charge for the fix. And for months after I would get compliments on my hair, even from people I just met!
Fast forward months later. On a somewhat impulsive moment, I get my hair cut somewhere else. What a disaster. Blunt, choppy, and just ugly all over. I go back to Skylae, who was able to fix it without making my hair any shorter! Also got highlights again… turned out great.
Skylae is fantastic. I would definitely recommend seeing her!

First time I felt slightly rushed because her other appointment had arrived while I was still there.
The second time around, most of the color is on the bottom and I would’ve liked a few more on the top that could be seen
Prices are good, but it can be quite a bit for a college student — Wish they offered some discounts for Poly kids!
–The important thing though, is that I’ve come out with great hair each time I was here =)

I love my hair and the lovely Rebekah at Faces A’La Mode’s loves it back. It feels like I’ve finally found my hair soulmate without a long distance relationship while I take up my home-​away-​from-​home nest in SLO for the time being.
The space, the music and Rebekah made my experience that far exceeded my expectation and I can’t wait to get my hair trimmed again by her. I know hair stylists are supposed to be good listeners but Rebekah is a GREAT listener! She answered my questions and pay close attention to what I am asking for and the result is just amazing. Love!

I had been a Faces customer for several years. I have spent, easily, several thousand dollars here. I’m sad to say I am no longer a client.
I’ve had mostly good experiences with the quality of work, however I have been a victim of their extreme lack of organization and professionalism.
Most recently, my stylist (again, who I had gone to for several years and spent a considerable chunk of change with), left the salon and I received no notification whatsoever. You would think that she would reach out to good clients and offer a referral or something (and if not the stylist, the salon should have at least for the sake of client retention). I needed a ‘do for an event and was left high and dry when I needed someone and had to find a last minute replacement who did a horrible job.
The biggest problem I had with Faces was, on all days, my wedding day. I booked my hair and makeup trial six months in advance with the SALON MANAGER. I had my trial about four months before the wedding and paid for everything in advance (at the recommendation of the salon manager, as she said it was easier to take care of it earlier rather than on my busy wedding day).
My friend, who was getting married a few weeks before I was, asked where I was getting my hair/​makeup done. «Faces, of course!» I tell her. She went in to her trial two months before her wedding. She called me and said: «they did a great job, but you might want to double check with them on your appointment. After they did the trial and I went to pay, it turns out they never even checked to see if they were available on my wedding day!»
Panicked, I called the salon to confirm my appointment. Lo and behold, they didn’t have me and my bridal party scheduled, despite having booked SEVERAL MONTHS before AND PAID. Thankfully, they were still available and I got everything booked.
After the scare, I called back two weeks later to triple check my appointment. I WAS STILL NOT ON THE BOOKS! Irate, I explained my displeasure and was assured again, by the SALON MANAGER that myself and my bridal party were on the books this time.
A few days before the wedding, I QUADRUPLE confirmed. I was assured everything was scheduled and that we were good to go as instructed (AND PREPAID).
I showed up on my wedding day with my bridal party and was met with frustration and confusion at the salon. They screwed up again and only had ME booked, not the three others in my bridal party. They had to call in extra stylists and the makeup artist had another wedding booked after mine. In the time that was set aside to do my makeup, she had to do three others. Because it was so rushed, I ended up looking NOTHING like my trial and I absolutely hated the way I looked in my wedding pictures! The stylists were clearly frustrated and the hurried and aggravated attitudes were not something I wanted to experience on my day.
With the situation clearly a fustercluck, Faces did nothing to compensate me for the inconvenience. When I went to leave (behind schedule), they asked me again to pay and I had to go back and forth with the receptionist advising I had paid six months before on the recommendation of the salon manager. Eventually, they let me leave.
Faces is not cheap and I paid full price for an express job. Yes, the stylists did the best they could considering the situation, but we NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THAT SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE! I should have received some sort of consideration due to their error — I barely even got an apology.
I have definitely learned my lesson and I now see a stylist who not only is talented at her work, but BUSINESS SAVVY and actually cares about customer service.
I’m really bummed my relationship with Faces turned out this way.
**EDIT** Upon posting this review, I received a prompt response from the salon owner with a very sincere apology and a generous offer to make up for my poor experience. While I am happy with my new stylist and may or may not return to Faces, I felt it was worthy to note on this review that the salon owner is responsive and does care about service.

I have to go here and see Melissa every time I am in SLO, she is just that awesome!
I have never had a stylist take the time to show me the little tricks so I can get the same results at home!
The vibe in this place is awesome, it is so laid back but everyone knows what they are doing. All the employees are super nice and helpful when it comes to picking out new products.
If you live in the area, then this is a must for you!

Jenna is the best I love my eyebrows so much thank you thank you thank you! Ive been coming here for 9 years and am always greeted friendly and treated really well! Thank you ladys!
