Literally was the only person there and still didn’t receive my taco after 30 min. The people came in after me and got their tacos within 5 min. Definitely not going back.

I am thoroughly disappointed that the Torchy’s is not keeping this place very well. I went on a Friday night at around 6 pm. It didn’t seem so busy. There were only three parties in front of us in the line. However, the food took a little over 20 minutes to come out for a to-go order. I got a Mr. Orange and The Independent. It looked NOTHING like the picture on their website that I just pulled up. For one thing, I basically got a sliver(not exaggerating), a SLIVER of very blackened salmon. I couldn’t really tell that I was eating salmon. Next to it on the two very dried corn tortillas were some scant shavings of what must have been queso fresco and eight sad black beans and some grilled corn. I don’t know what«relish» they meant, but I guess they must’ve relished not having to make much of it. I mean, it’s corn and black beans. I thought at least I’d get something else to fill up that taco. For an almost $ 5 taco, you’d expect that. But what I got was a sad, disappointing empty corn taco. Not a Torchy’s Taco. Not Damn Good. It was Damn Bad, actually. And not in a good way. Oh wait, I’m not done. The Independent was equally disappointing. I don’t even think I got any fried portobello mushroom in it. I was basically a refried black bean taco all mushy and poopoo-like. They DIDNOT have any mushroom in it. My dad got the chicken fajita and the beef fajita. He said the beef fajita was too salty, but in all fairness, he is super health-conscious and doesn’t put salt on much of his food anyway. He seemed to like the chicken fajita. The husband got The Democrat and the Fried Avocado. There was a lot of barbacoa in The Democrat, so we appreciated that since everything else was so, well, sad. That summabitch was an ugly taco though with the cheese all mashed up against the meat on one side. The Fried Avocado was literally ONE small, miniscule fried avocado. It was the tail end of an avocado that my husband gave to me because he thought there’d be more where that came from. There wasn’t. The rest of it was just plain avocado. And it was NOT stacked up high like the picture looks like and like we’ve had before. So sad. Honestly, at the end of the meal, I felt like the pitchfork the Torchy’s devil dude held had been shoved repeatedly where the sun don’t shine. Excuse my graphic depiction, but really $ 30.85(not including tip) for such mediocre food is just unacceptable. The only redeeming quality of this meal was the chips and queso. I should have gone to Chipotle down the street instead. At least I know what I’m getting myself into. I thought I knew you, Torchy’s. I guess I was wrong. In the words of Gordon Ramsay, «Damn, damn, damn. What a shame.»

I love Torchy’s. Whenever I come from California, I always make a stop at the one on 1st street in South Austin. I was dismayed when work took me to San Marcos. When would I find time to go to Austin for my trashy taco fix? Low and behold, a Google search showed me that a Torchy’s opened in San Marcos!!! All your usual favorites(mine is the Wrangler TRASHY and a side of queso). Ask for the secret menu. This place is clean, fun, and delicious. Definitely love the vibe here. Feels like Austin. Upscale country? They have a parking lot and tons of street parking, too.
