Tucked away in the heart of San Mateo I almost missed it. I’m always greeting warmly by the manager Very helpful. He created smart pulls in SF giants covers for my jackets. I LOVETHEM! It’s cool swing local artists work on beautiful stain glass pieces. They have a huge selection of colored glass. They custom custom pieces. They have so many other products. I always leave a happy customer.

I’ve just started my high school senior project here and the place is amazing. The people are nice, they can turn any photo into a pattern for you and their assortment of glass is breathtaking. It’s an open studio so you can pop in anytime from about 9−4pm during the weekdays. It’s a great place for beginners and experts and their gallery is pretty accurate in showing what you could make as a first project! Above all, the studio wants you the LEARN and it truly teachers well.

I called just to get more information about how classes work and the manager or owner or whoever he was was extremely rude and condescending. Asked me how I found out about him and I told him Unilocal. He said he was on the federal do not call list. Hmmmm well do you have a Unilocal page. Guess i will find another place first me and my girlfriends.

An amazing place — part clubhouse, part studio, part home — and entirely a community unto itself. The owner lives upstairs with his partner, while downstairs they have converted an old sausage-factory into an enormous workshop. The focus of the studio started out as solely stained-glass but has evolved to include hot glass, predominantly beadmaking/lampworking with some fusing. And all of these crafts are focused on starting you at beginner and making you into a true craftsperson. On any given day you can go in and there will be a half-dozen folks, some employees and some students, chugging along on their various projects. Stained-glass is taught on an individual basis, so no waiting for a group to form; you can go in and have something started the same day. The studio is also available late for those with a hectic work schedule, and there is an active crew in there both nights and Saturdays. The quality of the pieces that even beginners are able to make will blow you away — these are not your usual county-fair craft crap, these are professional quality projects. Need a stained glass piece repaired, or want some custom work done? This is your place. Friendly, efficient service and easily the best quality work in the Bay Area. Aanraku isn’t just a store, or a warehouse, or a shop — it’s a living thing, always evolving, and it’s not hard to make yourself welcome in the community!
