I really don’t know why this place has 4 stars right now. There are so many other good unique delis in the area that I would not even bother coming to this place again. Bottom line is that everything is so basic. Basic bread, basic meat, basic toppings. Nothing makes me want to drive here and buy a sandwich unfortunately. Ravioli House, Espostos, and even Anderson Bakery at Hillsdale beats this place.

One of my favorite deli’s on the peninsula. Having a textural difference between my bread and insides is important to me. Most deli’s have breads that are just too soft. G&G has a wonderful french roll that compliments all it’s sandwiches. Went today in particular to have their Thursday Special breaded steak sandwich. It was so tasty… I recommend it to everyone… it is just not something you find many other places. If it is not Thursday, try the CCBA(Chicken, Cheese, Bacon & Avocado). Great family run place that I love to support

I liked the look for this old-fashioned Italian deli and the owner was very friendly. From the rave reviews, I had high expectations of the sandwiches. On a previous visit, the owner said she had fresh cooked turkey, but not the day we came by. Since I don’t eat meat with preservatives, we ordered: * Vegetarian sandwich for me * Reuben sandwich for Mr. L * Cookie for Little L The proprietor asked what kind of bread I wanted for my veg sandwich, I said whatever she recommended. It was some kind of wheat roll — the kind you’d find in the bread aisle of the grocery store, not fresh from a bakery. The roll ruined what could’ve been a good sandwich. Mr. L said his Reuben was unremarkable and blah. Little L loved his cookie — score on the dessert. I hate giving small businesses a low rating, but I felt like we wasted our money here. After rereading the glowing Unilocal reviews, I wonder if we stopped by G & G on a *really* off day.

Recommended to us by the people working at Romolo’s, we came here for a quick lunch. First, I cannot tell you how awesome it is to walk into a real authentic Italian style deli and feel like you’re at home. The owner, Renee, could not be more welcoming or kind. No wonder this place has been around forever. With someone like her behind the wheel, I can see how she has really loyal customers. I had the turkey/ham sandwich, and it was great. They make some sort of special mayo that has parmesean, garlic, an some other stuff in it – and it’s totally awesome. Second of all — — the sandwiches are monstrously huge. We really enjoyed our lunch here, and if we’re every in the area again, this is where we’ll be going to get a sandwich, for sure!

Lots of sandwiches to choose from. I was hoping they served a steak sandwich daily, but apparently that is the Thursday special. Regardless the food was great and they have an awesome pesto sauce/topping.

The best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. When I first moved to the bay area, over nine years ago, I remember going to a sandwich shop in San Mateo that was delicious. They made their own pesto paste and garlic mayo. I think this was the same deli. They pack on the cold cuts, bacon, avocado, veges and whatever else you want. Normally, I would only eat half a sandwich, but somehow I had a truckers’ appetite and ate the whole thing… yummm!!! It was so good and hit every sandwich craving I’ve ever had. I also had a cup of warm beef vegetable soup which made me think of my childhood.

We used G & G for a family funeral reception. They were great! The food was as terrific as always — and the garlic black olives were fantastic! Renee was helpful and we didn’t have to give the food a second thought. Everything was taken care of. Thank you Renee!

The best place for sandwiches! I recently asked the help of the owner Renee to help me out cater a company meeting for group 90 hungry men and women sales rep at a company in Brisbane. She went above and beyond on a last minute call to make the best sandwiches for me that everyone loved and enjoyed. I recommend G&G for all your catering needs!!! Renee is awesome to work with! She rocks! Thanks Renee…

Great sandwich place. I’m a big fan of their TCBA(turkey, cheddar, bacon, avocado) on dutch crunch. They also have a great Wednesday special, which has some grilled chicken, bacon, and bbq sauce. My girlfriend loves their egg salad. Slightly pricey, but a great place for a lunch. I recommend it.

You have to dodge drops of water dripping from an old air conditioning unit above the entrance to even enter the deli. The sandwiche was nothing special. Dry and bland. But they cut their own meat and service was speedy and nice.

This is by far the best Deli in San Mateo. Make the trip to find this place on 37th. Their special sandwiches are exactly what I want when I’m looking for an authentic Italian Deli sando. The steak sandwich is phenomenal as is the meatball. My favorite part of this place is Renee. She loves her customers and call you«Hun». She’s a babe too!

Good Tasting + Piled High Turkey Sandwich + $.50 credit card fee = G&G Italian Deli. *They would get a 5 but they charged a credit card fee Tip: they will let you pay after you order /eat — but you might as well pay right then because we didn’t and had to wait in a 8 person line afterwords.

This place is soooo good. I decided to check it out one day and have had cravings for their sandwiches ever since. The bread is perfect and their homemade garlic sauce is fantastic! I usually get turkey and jack cheese with garlic sauce on the soft roll… mm. I have also tried the prociutto sandwich(i think it is called the sicilian) it is off the hook good. The service is also very friendly although sometime it can take a while if you go at lunch time. AMAZING sandwiches.

I like the Mom N’ Pop atmosphere. I got the Italian Veggie for $ 6.45. Just wished that they put cheese in it, rather than having to pay .60c. The daughter was working the register, while the mom was working in the back. They charge .50c to use a credit card. I also noticed that they do catering for parties. Overall, I liked the place, but wished that they had an eggplant sandwich with red sauce.

Good sandwiches, reasonable prices. They have tables if you want to sit down. BUT: Second time that I made it all the way over here only to find this place closed! Last time they were catering now it’s vacation. Seriously? Is this a business or a hobby? The food here is good but I’m not coming back only because I can’t waste my time every time the owners decide to capriciously close down for the day.

Great, wide variety of really good deli food. Absolutely fantastic. Having said that, I’m used to great potato salad and macaroni salad, so technically I’d give them 4 stars. But everything else is so good and that’s just subjective anyway, everyone has their own way to do it. The plus is not only their great food, authenticity but the people that run it. Not to mention many of their customers have been going there for decades! It’s that good.

What a little gem of a place! I needed something solid to eat before heading to the ice cream shop across the street(another review here.) I spotted the deli and suggested to S that we head on over to check it out. As we were looking at the posted menu — a gentleman passed us and said to us as he entered the deli, «This is the best sandwich place in San Mateo County!» Oh yeah? We were intrigued by his comment — we followed him in. Apparently he’s been a patron for the last twenty years, so he must know what he’s talking about… They have daily specials — and the special sandwich of the day was Italian Steak. S and I decided to split a sandwich so that we could still have room for ice cream. Renee, one of the owners, introduced herself to us. She assembled our sandwich — soft Italian roll, pesto, mayo, lettuce with breaded steak and melted provolone cheese. I’m glad that I split the sandwich –I couldn’t have eaten the whole thing. The owner, Renee, has been in business with her mother for the last 19 years taking over after her father died. After chatting with her, I could tell that the deli was her life and passion. She cares about her customers and the community she serves. I’m not often in the area — but I’ll make it a point to visit again soon.

I really wanted this place to become my new regular spot(I live only 3 blocks away) but unfortunately the sandwiches were just not that good. I hate to do this to a mom and pop with such nice atmosphere but the dutch crunch was hard and a bit stale and what was inside was nothing to write home about. I’ll give this place another shot in the future because maybe they just needed newer bread but unless you want a place you can sit down with a nice atmosphere, hit up Lorenzo’s instead.

Solid little Italian deli with super friendly service. Got the Sicilian Classico which was Prosciutto and Provolone on Dutch Crunch with a side of cheese tortellini and a meatball. Tasty and super filling to boot. The lady working there took really good care of us as if we were regulars. Definitely coming back to give some of the other ‘wiches a try with a bunch of the other deli items.

G&G is one of those family style Italian delis that just get it right. The sandwiches are made on fresh bread, the cold cuts are tasty and the whole sandwich is damn good. There are usually some good specials each day. I like the Italian veggie — its a bunch of veggies piled with a little egg salad and then topped off with balsalmic vinigrette. It sounded weird at first, but its one of my favorites now. The other great thing about G&G is that its affordable. Plus the service is great –they are friendly to all their customers.
