Mighty Mike’s Handyman Service

Don’t bother to call this guy if you don’t have a LARGE money making project for him to bid on. As others have experienced, he just blows you off if you only have small projects that are not involving a lot of work and money: (

I got a thoughtful note from Mike, and as I suspected, he’s super busy, and has a ton of messages to get through. I also got a sense that he is indeed really talented. Mike acknowledged that the volume of calls he’s fielding is a challenge, and that he’s working on how to better handle it. I really appreciate his reaching out to me, and wish him luck in managing the demand for his services.

I looked at Mighty Mike’s website and liked what I saw. He seems to know what he’s doing. I’ve called twice trying to get a conversation, for two different projects, and haven’t heard back yet.
Attempt 1: call the number, get the answering service. A lady answers, yep it’s Mighty Mikes, and it sounds like she’s getting of a car. OK, no problem. Then I try to initiate a conversation however there’s no response other than background noise and distant voices – almost like being pocket dialed. This goes on for a while before I give up. Strange.
Attempt 2, a few weeks later, different project: I get the answering service again, and this time a conversation with the person taking the message. I’m wondering if Mighty Mike is available for projects? «Oh I’m sure he is,» she says. So I gave a one liner of the project, along with my name and number, I confirmed the number. A week later, still no return call.
By now, I’ve already had the job finished by someone else, who got back to me promptly, understood what I wanted, brainstormed solutions, got the job started and done in a couple of days work.
If Mighty Mike didn’t want to do the job for whatever reason, that’s fine. For instance too busy, not the type of work he likes to do, too small since only 2 days of work, etc., then no problem. I talked to a few other people who got back to me within a day, and with a 2 minute conversation determined that the project wasn’t a fit for one reason or another. Or heck, even an auto responder, «I’m super busy, currently scheduling out 3 weeks. If that’s OK leave me an email with a project description,» that’d be ok. But it’s strange to leave the message and not hear back, and disappointing because from his website, he seems to be good.

I’m not feeling any love here, fellow Unilocalers with 5 star reviews! What happened?! Called Mr. Mike based on the Unilocal reviews. Needed an airgap/​new valve/​close valve. Two days go by, no callback. I wonder if I wasn’t clear or if my message broke up (bad reception), so I leave another very courteous message. It’s now been a month later, I never received a callback.
I had disregarded the low raters, especially reading all the glowing reviews, but at least I know I’m not alone, which is why I’m also posting my 2 cents.
So I’m still in the market for a handyman. On the positive side, I found an excellent plumber PLUS emergency servicer (needed soon in this old house), and Wizard Plumbing was not just prompt, courteous and got the work done, they did it at a very fair price. So something good for me, not so Mighty for Mighty Mike.

Mighty Mike just finished 9 small jobs in my home in San Mateo 94 403. Mike did a fantastic job on all phases of this project. He came to review the jobs and he was exactly on-​time. He wrote up a scope of work with costs on each small job. He started the jobs when he said he would and completed them in a timely fashion. He kept me in the loop about his timing each day. He’s very affable, smart, and trustworthy. I was impressed with his honesty in telling me that some of the things I thought needed to be repaired or replaced were actually just fine and could be left alone. In other words, when presented with potentially further jobs and more income, he just told me the truth.
I am very pleased with the quality of his work and his attention to detail. I will be using him again soon on some other tasks that I’ve let go too long on my house. I will be recommending him to family members in the Bay Area.
If you have a wood deck that needs to be restored, Mighty Mike is your guy. He did such great work on my redwood deck that I cant stop looking at it!

Mike is very nice and professional. He gets everything I need done quickly and with quality work. I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again and to recommend him to anyone who needs something done around the office or house.

Mighty Mike has definitely been mighty! We just moved into our first house, and have had Mike help us with a variety of things, from installing a dishwasher in a kitchen where there had been none, to replacing missing wall molding so well that it looks like it had never been missing. He takes his time to make sure he does the job right, and the results are amazing! And he is kind of like a substitute dad, too — having a sewer problem? Mike knows a guy who can come out to fix it at 7pm on a Friday night for less than $ 200. Have ants all over your garage? Mike will help you spray them with windex because he knows how much you hate ants. He has been invaluable, and we definitely plan on continuing to use his services for all of our home’s repairs!

Mike is AWESOME! For years, Mike has been an invaluable resource to me for projects at my home and at my business and he has always done a stellar job. He really is a renaissance man – there’s not much Mike can’t do and I’ve had him do practically everything from the smallest task (like fixing a vintage doorstop) to more complex electrical/​contract jobs. He is meticulous, thorough, resourceful, creative, responsive (by phone and email), and opinionated which I love. If he has a better way of doing something, he’ll let you know. I appreciate that he cares about maintaining the aesthetic intregrity of a space. For example, I had him build additional shelves in a closet and he took extra care to make sure they matched the existing shelves that were 90+ years old. Mike gets the job done, he does it well and he’s an absolute pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him for projects big and small.

What a fantastic guy! I disagree with a previous review about Mike only taking on expensive repairs. He was happy to do a repair costing $ 150.

Apparently, unless the job brings Mighty Mike $ 1,000 in profit, he’s not willing to do what it takes to help someone with home repairs. I would imagine that no job is too small in this economy, but Mike should really remove the «handyman» portion of his description and just declare himself a full-​on contractor. That way, people who are looking for smaller home repairs ($ 50-​$ 100) won’t waste his (or their) time when he shows up and refuses to do any work.
Was pretty clear over the phone as to what the job entailed, but I suppose this was just a fishing expedition to see if he could drum up additional work in addition to the small repair requested.

Mike was on time, honest, did a great job and went out of his way to go the extra mile. Fantastic work and I’d highly recommend Mike. Don’t waste your time with others, mike is as advertised! (only better!)

Mike was prompt and helped me out with some «odd» projects — a door that was sagging and would not shut (large wooden front door), a broken garage door and a broken knob on an outside door. He gave me a fair quote and did the work on time. I thought he was quite knowledgeable and it was GREAT he could do all 3 «odd» projects w/​out me having to get a carpenter, handyman and locksmith. Highly recommend and I plan to use him on all my small projects.

When something breaks in the house and you think it’s going to cost a fortune and by a pain in the neck to deal with. Mike puts all of those worries to bed right away. Ours was a plumbing issue in the bathroom. Plumbers were quoting numbers that were high enough to make me look a little further. Mike’s quote was 30% less, he fixed the problem and further tended to a couple of thoughtful finishes and succeeded leaving us having done an excellent job and really happy about our experience with him. I don’t think my wife will get so worried when some issue arises in the future (and of course it will). Cheers Mike!

Mighty Mike isn’t just mighty, he’s AMAZING! He came to my house to look at the fence my dogs could jump and my landlord wouldn’t fix, laughed a little at first (it was pretty bad), but got super creative. I now have my own little oasis as my backyard and I can rest easy knowing my pups can’t escape. Thank you Mike, you really are the best :)

Mighty Mike is a handy man for sure. Very knowledgeable with experience on exterior repairs and painting. Gates and fences. As well as kitchen and bath repair, painting and remodeling. I really like his «on time» attitude. «Mikey on the spot.»

I called based on the reviews here on Unilocal to set an appointment for him to check the project to be done. Waited for him… no show! Called and texted him and didn’t even return them. That’s very unprofessional. Wasted my time. Unilocalers should be able to give zero star to businesses if they don’t even show up. If you don’t like my business, just say so, so I can quickly move on and hire someone else. Highly NOT recommended.

We have hired Mike for a number of jobs, ranging from building a basement door to installing windows, and he has done an excellent, efficient job each time. Mike is prompt, conscientious, reliable and friendly. He’s fantastic!

Mike is great! I needed by storm door repaired, we set an appointment time, and he was on time — even a couple of minutes early, which is a huge plus in my book. He was quick, friendly, and has very reasonable, fair rates. Seems like a great guy. I will definitely call him next time I need a handyman.

Mighty Mike is an independent repair guy who is great for fixing things and getting projects done around your house. He gives reasonable quotes and keeps his word about cost and time.
He also has an assistant that works with him so he can do larger projects and get smaller projects done faster. You’re not just getting a one-​man-​band.
We have used him to remodel a laundry room, adding a sink and new linoleum flooring; to add balusters and finish a stairway to a down-​stairs family room; to add a proper threshold to the entrance of our house; and to replace a toilet and broken sink drain in our bathroom.
I would recommend him for any type of job along those lines, and would also feel confident that he could do a larger remodel project as well.
