Dr. Lam believes that understanding the patient’s needs is critical to effective treatment. Established in 2007.

Our office was established in Dec 2007. It’s a state of the art orthodontic office with digital imaging and radiography. We are located next to San Mateo CalTrain station with ample parking spaces behind the building.

Business Owner

Dr. Lam received his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated top 5% of the class and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Having decided to specialize in Orthodontics, Dr Lam received another 3 years of training and earned his Masters Degree at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Dr. Lam speaks fluent Cantonese and enjoys practicing in a city with great cultural diversity. He enjoys various sports including skiing, badminton, tennis and, above all, golf.

I moved to California after having braces for only a few months, and needed to find a place to continue my treatment. Dr. Lam was welcoming, professional, and his staff was superb. He was very supportive in working around my insurance as it changed providers a couple of times, and subsequent treatments were painless and efficient.
I had a great experience with Dr. Lam, and looked forward to all of my visits after having my braces removed. Now that I’m done with all of my follow-​ups, I’ll miss him and his staff! They’re a great group of people, and amazingly professional. I can’t praise them enough.

It’s been a little over a year now, and I’ve finished my Invisalign treatment for my top arch. My bottom braces will come off in a couple of weeks. Throughout this entire process, I couldn’t have been more pleased with Dr. Lam. Every visit was pleasant (longest wait time was probably 5 minutes, and that’s because I showed up early), and my experience was hardly painful at all. When I first had my braces put in, Dr. Lam advised that I should eat lunch before getting them tightened on appointment days. I actually never had to do that. Sure, my teeth were a little tender, but I could always eat afterwards without much problem. Now, my teeth are looking wonderful, and I can’t wait to see my naked teeth again! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Lam!!!

My daughter is currently coming up on year one of two for her braces and Dr. Lam and his staff have been amazing. My daughter had a severe occlusion and her dentist wanted me to consider having her jaw reset! At 12 years old, that was not an option. I took her to doctor Lam because he was in my insurance network and had a lot of good reviews on Unilocal and I’m glad I did. Not only did he fix her bite (without a painful jaw reset) her teeth are near perfect just after a year! :)
Dr. Lam is very knowledgeable, easy to work with and his Saturday hours have been a total blessing! His staff are all very personable and professional too.
More to follow up on year two but I anticipate it all to be EXCELLENT!

So I finally got my braces off yesterday. It took about 6months longer than originally planned, although doctor Lam didnt charge me extra even after the fact that he gave me an awesome discount for my treatment! I had ceramic braces that were hardly noticeable.
If your looking for an amazing knowledgeable professional and supremely friendly orthodontist, Dr. Lam is it!
He was sooo flexible with scheduling (I had a crazy busy and fickle schedule with school and work and interning. etc)
My teeth look sooo amazing and they feel incredible. I didnt have too much pain through out my enyire treatment. Dr. Lam was always really gentle and careful not to injure me as my gums are really senstive and I have an impossibly low tolerance for pain.
Dr. Lam always asked about my school and checked in with me to see how I was– so not only is he super professional but he also cares about his patients enough to be friendly and inquire about their day/​life.
I totally recommend Dr. Lam!
He is awesome!!! Please pick him! I had a consistently good experience with him for two years and 6 months! Totally a stand up guy!

Feel so lucky to have Dr. Lam treat our family! I’ve consulted a couple orthodontists; and the treatment proposed by Dr. Lam is way the best! His quality of service is top notch, he’s very friendly, highly-​skilled, honest and trustworthy!
At first we consulted a different orthodontist who said my kid’s cross-​bite situation could possibly result in a more complicated case therefore proposed us to use multiple orthodontic appliances to fix it, for which the appliance requires daily activation (turn) and a headgear to be worn for minimum 14 hours a day *_​* gosh, I was like passed-​out after I heard this. I was really worried as my kid wouldn’t be able to handle such stress (neither can I).
As part of my habit I always wanted to get second opinion when it comes to medical treatment. I remembered I saw a great smile from my friend’s kid who’s pretty much same age as mine (under 10) treated by Dr. Lam. So I went to make a consultation appointment with Dr. Lam.
At the beginning I didn’t mention to Dr. Lam what the first orthodontist proposed, but then I was so relieved to hear that Dr. Lam said my kid’s case was not difficult but pretty common and braces can fix it! At that time I still doubted a bit because the treatment plan proposed by another doctor was very different. But given that I did not want my kid to be suffered from the different appliances proposed by the first orthodontist, I decided to undergo treatment with Dr. Lam.
It’s just a week from now, the braces ‘already fixed’ the obvious cross-​bite. WOW… YES!!! JUST A WEEK — It already pushed the upper front tooth out to align with the lower tooth (no more cross-​bite problem!!). Of course, we still have a long time to go to fix other alignment issues but I just can’t wait to thanks Dr. Lam for making my kid so relieved and happy wearing braces! Now my kid no longer shows the weird upper front teeth, but is ‘proud’ of his braces…(and we can forget the headgear thingy YEAH!!!)

I would like to mention that I am do not typically give 5-​star Unilocal.Once treatment begins, it may be difficult to change providers. Although price matters to most people, I feel that the quality of service matters a great deal as well. I’m happy with the services received here.
My treatment with Dr. Lam is ongoing but is nearing completion. I am happy with my results. The reasons that I give Dr. Lam 5 stars is because of these reasons:
Dr. Lam takes time to answer my questions. He is detailed and careful about the information he gives and he responds to e-​mails in a timely manner. His service and professionalism was better than other orthodontics I went to see for consultations.
In particular, I once asked him about amalgam fillings and personal opinions of them. his response was a helpful and informative one. He cited the American Dental Association (ADA), giving the facts presented to him in dental school as well as personal choices with it.
He was accurate about the length of the treatment and was not afraid to tell me mid-​treatment that I wasn’t wearing my rubber bands as much as I was instructed.
I’m glad my treatment was done here. Thanks, Dr. Lam!

My two daughters and I are currently seeing Dr. Lam. He’s Amazing! He is very friendly and informative. He answers all of my questions and his fees are upfront! He doesn’t sneakily add extra services or overpromise. He always explains everything completely. Our teeth have been making great progression :-) I would recommend anyone to go to this office.

I am currently undergoing treatment with Dr. Lam. I drive all the way to San Mateo from San Jose to see him, and it’s worth it. I am currently in college, and can only come home on weekends — few weekends a quarter. Dr. Lam is very accommodating to my schedule, which is always revising itself to satisfy studying needs. For this, I am extremely thankful. (He is also very accommodating to my odd, college-​student sleeping pattern, agreeing to see me well into the afternoon)
Dr Lam’s office is very aesthetically pleasing. All of his modern equipment is new, his hardwood floors are clean, his chairs are new, even his bathroom is spotless… with a really cool sink. I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled out, and he offered to give me a copy of my X-​Ray to give to the oral surgeon. He e-​mailed it to me and now it’s my desktop wallpaper. It’s so cool!
At the start, Dr. Lam explained my treatment to me very thoroughly and clearly. I am glad, knowing what he is doing to my teeth, why he is doing it, and why other treatments won’t be as effective.
Every time I visit I am greeted with a smile, and he examines my treatment progress. He then proceeds to either replace my wire, install new bands, or whatever. As he is doing it, he explains what he’s doing and how long it might stiffen or make my mouth sore for (which is helpful to a growing college kid… I need to know when I can eat, man!)
Also, when I call to make an appointment, I don’t usually get routed to some impersonal answering machine or receptionist, but Dr. Lam answers himself and addresses any questions I may have while setting up my appointment. Now THAT’s customer service!
Dr. Lam is friendly, knowledgeable, and an extremely well-​educated guy. I am glad he is my orthodontist. He is well worth the drive from San Jose to San Mateo.
(However, no matter how friendly he is, I can’t wait for my treatment to end; BRACES SUCK. He does make the process more enjoyable, though. I never dread getting these forsaken hindrances tightened: P)

Excellent Service! Orthodontics work is not the same as just pick a place to go dinner, or just try a new salon. You will need someone care about your need, and willing to provide you honest advise, and treat you just like a family friend. I have my braces on since April 2008, so far I have a great experience with Bay Meadows Orthodontics. Dr. Lam always is the one who comes to check out my teeth. I had visited lots of different Orthodontics office before I start my braces. Other offices are just «crowded»!! Packed of people, and lots of «associates» or «technician» to check out the patients. If you want a professional, honest, friendly dentist, you need to at least make an initial appointment to meet with Dr. Lam first, then you will understand what I mean. By the way, their office is new, computerize, the most important is they are super CLEAN! If my family and friends need braces in the future, I will definitely recommend Dr. Lam to them.
