Purifying Pilates

I was completely new to pilates when I came to purifying Pilates one year ago. I would never have imagined how life changing the experience has been. My posture, aches and pains and strength have vastly improved. Renee and Martine are extremely well qualified. The atmosphere is encouraging and friendly. Highly recommend!

Purifying Pilates is an excellent place to work out if you’ve had an injury, or want to exercise just a little to get visible results. During a session, I barely work up a sweat, but I know I’ve worked plenty when I feel a just-​right amount of muscle soreness the next day. Due to a back injury, this is important so that I don’t create more problems from over-​doing the workout. If I have a sore spot when I arrive, the workout is modified to accommodate the issue. Purifying Pilates has been a fundamental component in healing, strengthening and maintaining my back. During my workouts, we target all of my muscle groups, not just the core. As a result, I have occasionally surprised my husband with my arm strength, and I’ve got better posture than him.
Rene and Martine attend supplemental Pilates workshops, which shows their commitment to keeping up-​to-​date on the latest techniques. They bring that knowledge back to the studio, which helps to change things up a little during the sessions, and keeps it interesting.
I look forward to my time here; it’s private and relaxing. The studio has it’s own restroom, a space to prepare and enjoy a cup of tea, and it’s convenient with cheap downtown parking directly behind the studio. Rene and Martine are very friendly, and make me feel comfortable exercising there.
They also sell things like yoga socks, toe-​stretchers (feels really good!), exercise balls, thera-​bands, microwave hot pads (Smart Spine, I think it’s called), etc. to use at home. There’s a small selection of nutrition bars and drinks for sale, too.
Thanks to Pilates, I’m pain-​free and active, two years and counting!

After doing Pilates off and on for over 10 years, I can honestly say that Purifying Pilates is the best studio I’ve ever been to, and Rene and her daughter Martine are two of the best instructors I’ve ever had. Both have studied Pilates extensively, and they take their time and care with instruction (vs. just «rushing through» moves like some instructors I’ve had in the past). I have been having private sessions here for close to two years now, and always look forward to my weekly workout with Martine.
