Dr. Adele Makow is a cosmetic skin specialist who provides professional advice and treatment to improve and restore the natural beauty of your face and skin without surgery. This is done by removing imperfections brought on by age, sun, acne and rosacea. Dr. Makow will give you options that include laser treatments, Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and medical grade skin care products. The staff at Renew are caring and sensitive and are most concerned with your comfort and results. The prices are among the best in the Bay Area. Dr. Makow is very skilled at making all your treatments comfortable. Consultations are $ 50, and you will get a good 30 minutes of dedicated time with the doctor.

Dr. Adele Makow is board certified in Emergency Medicine and was an emergency physician for 20 years before deciding to change course and open her own medical spa. She completed multiple training courses in cosmetic procedures and lasers which were easy for her to incorporate, given her experience with doing emergency procedures.

Dr. Makow has a unique perspective coming from Emergency Medicine in that she views the whole patient, not just the wrinkles or the scars or the acne. She understands that treatment has to be appropriate and fit in with each patient’s lifestyle, finances, and preferences. She understands the limitations of her practice, and does not hesitate to refer patients to a dermatologist when there is a question of skin cancer, and to a plastic surgeon when surgery is a better option.

Dr. Adele Makow received an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook. She completed an emergency medicine residency at Los Angeles County — USC Medical Center and board certified in emergency medicine in 1990. She worked for 18 years in the Emergency Department of Seton Medical Center in Daly City. Dr. Makow opened Renew Laser Clinic in 2007.

I wish I could give this more stars!
Dr. Adele saved my skin! I got some adult acne, and it was crushing me. I did everything in the books known to man. I tried every wash, and every mask. I drank more water than my bladder could handle. I eliminated all the «bad foods» and consumed all the superfoods. None of that helped. None. I was so depressed and upset.
In walks Dr. Adele, she consoled me and came up with a plan. I’m not in the least bit exaggerating when I saw my acne cleared up in one week. Now, my scars and red spots are slowly disappearing.
Dr. Makow gave me a realistic time line, and never over sold me on product or procedures. She really, truly listens to you, and makes you feel safe and at home.
Bottom line: if you need help with your skin, you’ve got to go to Renew Laser Clinic!!! I’d recommend this place to all my friends and have!

Renew Laser is a hidden gem. The facility is beautiful, professional and clean with the latest and best treatments available. However, most importantly Dr. Makow is so incredible. She is brilliant, educated and experienced in various aspects of medicine. I am truly impressed by her passion, expertise and the simple joy she takes in working with each client.
I’ve been seeing Dr. Makow for about 2 years and have always been ecstatic with her work. She is fast and very efficient while taking a methodical approach to the individual. To say Dr Makow is an artist would be an understatement, she really has vision and artistry, she is also honest and extremely ethical.
If your looking for a real professional who puts her patients first, look no further. You’ve found the best in Dr Makow!

Renew Laser Clinic is a Hidden Treasure. Dr. Adele Makow has an unparalleled eye for detail and artistry. She observes your skin with an unbiased attitude, takes a straightforward look and lets you know the varied ways she can help you. Dr. Makow is able give you a simple appraisal of what would be most beneficial for you within your personal budget. Her gentle and calm manor allows you to feel confidant and relaxed. You will feel very cared for.
On another note, should you care to take your relaxation to a whole other level, treat yourself to a facial with Angie. You arrive thinking you are getting a simple facial. You float out of there feeling like you have been drifting along on an island vacation for two weeks.
You might be surprised at how long the benefits of her skin care last. Simply delightful and refreshing. If you are feeling like unfolding and letting go… give yourself the gift of a facial with Angie.

Not sure what to think of this place. Came in and had a consultation for $ 50 that maybe lasted 5 minutes. The doctor did ask me questions about my main concerns but I felt she was rushing through it. Anyways I got the procedure I wanted right after the consultation, I was in and out within 20 minutes (this includes the paperwork I filled out as a new patient) with a total charge of $ 344. I was scheduled for a check up 2 weeks later at no additional cost. This appointment literally took less than one minute. Again, I was asked questions but I felt we had to be in a rush so I just answered and got out of there. The office is nice and the receptionists are friendly but I don’t think I’ll continue treatment here. I think with so much competition offering the same services the doctor should be friendlier and show more concern for potential long term patients.

Dr. Makow is exceptionally knowledgeable, competent, and nice. Doing any procedure is nerve-​wracking and expensive. You want to know you are in excellent hands. This is the place. Dr. Makow does not sell you procedures just to sell you procedures. I have met with her on 2 – 3 occasions for consultation and explained what I felt my issues were from skin/​appearance perspective. She explained each treatment and what the outcome would be. She even said she would not recommend certain treatments because I didn’t need them. I would never go to anyone but her. Can’t say enough good things.

I wanted to post an update. After submitting my initial review, Dr. Makow reached out to me and sincerely wanted to clear up any misunderstandings. It went really well and she even had her office reach again to make another appointment during a later time that worked for me. During my visit, Dr. Makow and I had a great talk and realized that the my original concerns were actually more of a miscommunication and we were able to resolve them. Again, I have always been really happy with her and the treatments and highly recommend going here!

Renew Laser Clinic is as good as it gets. Dr. Mako if professional, reasonably priced and punctual. I’ve had a couple of small sun spots on my forehead Removed and purchased an amazing moisturizer 50SPF from her (only $ 38). She does not push products however if you ask for her advice she is knowledgeable. Her front desk staff are friendly and efficient. Renew Laser Clinic is a fantastic find in San Mateo.

Dr. Makow is the most professional person I’ve ever dealt with in regards to my laser hair removal needs. Being a doctor versus only a licensed medical aesthetitian, Dr. Makow is extremely knowledgeable. Having PCOS, she was able to answer all of my questions in regards to my condition and give me the best advice in terms of the most effective treatment.
Her staff is very courteous and nice both in person and on the phone. They have all been very accommodating to my schedule considering I don’t come home to the Bay Area often. What I appreciate most is that if you don’t see the results, Dr. Makow does the session for you again. I have come into Renew Laser Clinic twice and am very happy with what I’ve seen the second time around. My face and underarm treatments have gone very well and I like that she requests for clients to come within two weeks for follow ups to see progress and reaction to treatment.
It’s important to do your research on lasers before getting treated. Previously I have been treated with «in motion» lasers which I felt were much less effective. Since being treated with Renew’s Cutera ProWave, I feel that I have finally seen the results I have longed to see for a while now. I have no doubt that prior places I’ve been to before ripped me off because I purchase series of packages. I can see how this allows them to do less effective treatments because they know you will come back anyways. For this reason I really like that Dr. Makow doesn’t do packages because it guarantees you see your moneys worth with each session.
Highly recommend Dr. Makow and her staff at Renew Laser Clinic. Free consultation with no commitment for those who are interested.
Cons: pricey in comparison to other places I’ve been to.

Renew Laser Clinic is as good as it gets! Let me start this review by saying this is my first time doing a cosmetic procedure, (fillers and botox), but it is not my first time being in a cosmetic office. I’ve been shopping around and doing my research and finally settled on Renew and I couldn’t be happier.
I called to make an appointment, and very kind, and pleasant people answered the phone and gave me a ton of information up front. After making my appointment, they even called me back to see if I wanted more time for my consult and apt! I felt like they really cared to make sure I had enough time to ask all my questions, get the necessary answers and proceed with the procedure.
The day of my apt I was shaking like a leaf, but arriving at the clinic made me feel ready to go ahead with the procedure. The clinic is beautiful, the people are professional, and Dr. Makow is stellar. I could tell right away she was totally confident with her ideas in the consult and I knew she was going to make me look good.
The procedure was virtually pain-​free and easy, and I know I’ll be coming back for more before I even look in the mirror. Two seconds later when I see myself, my mouth drops open in shock. She completely erased the lines in question with the least amount of product.
When I showed my husband my own before and after photos he was floored. Renew is on my favorites list.

I cannot adequately express how impressed I am with Dr. Makow. She is a consummate professional in every sense of the word. She is incredibly knowledgeable, cares deeply about her clients, listens rather than sells, has a calming «bed side’ manner and is amazingly honorable. I’ve had several different treatments performed by Dr. Makow and along the way I’ve felt like I had a partner guiding me in making decisions; someone that is just as interested in getting results as I am — not someone that’s trying to sell regardless of what I want. Some procedures can be a little uncomfortable and Dr. Makow constantly monitors to make sure I’m always comfortable. Her office is staffed with warm and discreet women that enhance the experience of going there. If I could give more than five stars I would!

This place is amazing! I had my first treatment with Dr. Makow yesterday for laser vein removal and am so happy with the results that I am going back tomorrow for more! I had ¾ of the work done in one session. The back of one of my legs is pretty bad, so Dr. Makow will focus on just that area tomorrow. I tried the injections at another place in SM (and had to wear the awful compression stockings for two weeks after) and didn’t see any results. The results with the laser are instant. Also, with the laser, no need to wear the stockings. I am so happy I found Renew and Dr. Makow. I already feel more confident showing off my legs. I’m recommending this place to everyone! I’m already sending my mom and co-​worker there for consultations. You will not be disappointed!

Coming from different states and working in the health care industry, I know how clients feel when coming to their appointments. At Renew Laser, I am always excited as I leave this clinic with a happy smile and great skin. I’ve had my fair share of clinic visits, derm treatments and facials, including laser hair removal. And I must say, I am happy to recommend this clinic to my family, friends, and colleagues! The Renew Laser team is very organized, clean and honest with their recommendations. Dr. Makow is fabulous and she is what you would expect from a doctor — professional, direct, and truthful — she would tell you what you need and what you don’t need. I come at the clinic for laser hair treatments, skin laser rejuvenation and facials. The clinic offers different treatments for the skin and Dr. Makow provides consultations for your needs. For facials, I have Angie who is very knowledgeable and effective when it comes to treatments. I’ve had facials for years and with Angie is by far the most effective facial I’ve ever had. You can consult any team member of your skin issues and they will tell you what products (or ingredients in your products) to avoid. I love that no one is pushy or pretentious (unlike other places). Renew Laser is a gem — quality, professional and effective services.

Dr. Makow and her staff are knowledgeable and professional. I’ve had both Botox and ultherapy at Renew and was very happy with the results for both procedures. I’ve tried ‘discount’ Botox offers in the past and I did not get the same results as with Dr. Makow. She understands the muscular structure of the face and the optimal injection site unique to each person. She doesn’t try to sell you on products or procedures you don’t need.

I was very disappointed with the laser hair removal. It hurt a lot, and I know it doesn’t need to, because I’ve had it done many years ago somewhere else, and I didn’t feel a thing. They used a soothing cream and cooling air. Here there was nothing — she only added the cooling air when I said the pain was unbearable. To make it worse, at this clinic I had to do it twice because there were no results the first time. When I said so Dr Makow looked visibly peeved. I really don’t think I was rude or anything, I just stated factually that I hadn’t noticed results. Anyway, after doing it again, she left the room without a word. I waited around thinking she’d come back, then asked the reception and was told I was done. The doctor didn’t even say good bye. I was originally planning to do more rounds, but this is it, I am looking for another clinic.

This review is mainly for Kristine, the wonderful aesthetician that works there. I came here to get help for fading brown spots from mosquito bites. Dr. Makow was perfectly nice, recommended some creams that seem to be working. However, I also got the SilkPeel facial, and that’s when I met Kristine who becomes your instant best friend. The procedure itself is comparable to a very light microdermabrasion, and you’d probably need 2 or 3 to really see results. However, it’s also just a great way to pamper your face. I think $ 120 was pretty reasonable. I didn’t feel pressured about purchasing anything either.

I drive from SF to San Mateo just to see Dr. Makow. I am an esthetician and have worked for a few Cosmetic Dermatologists in the city back in my day and I am more impressed by Dr. Makow than by any others. Each time I have gone to see her she is ready for me right away. That is a rarity in the world of Dr’s. So that is always a good way to get out of the gate! The office itself is beautiful and clean, with not too many products to overwhelm the eye and senses. I appreciate the minimalist approach when it comes to product display. I always get parking right in front and you gotta love that.
But above all my most favorite things about Renew and Dr. Makow, are these:
1) She is no nonsense and very honest and she is not pushy. ever. I hate pushy. There will be no hard sells in this office which makes the visit more relaxing overall.
2) Her fees are amazing! I had some veins treated today and I paid half of what other offices charge. She let me know before we began how the pricing would breakdown, so there were no surprises. I had sclerotherapy injections done at a very well known Cosmetic Derm office in SF, it hurt like hell and took forever and after two visits. I saw zero results. Today she treated me with a laser, and I just checked out my legs and I can’t believe most of the veins are gone. I am over the moon with the results!
3) She takes her time with you and you never feel rushed. She is not a chatty Kathy which is just how I like it… I for one, prefer that when a Dr. is using a laser or a needle on me, they are concentrating rather than blabbing to me about their family or their next family trip to the snow or just generally running small talk circles around me. Just make me look beautiful and call it a day, and don’t charge me too much while your at it! It is a tall order, but it is the order I am delivered each time I visit Dr. Makow. I already booked my next visit for laser hair removal and I am looking forward to more of her miracle work!
