History

Established in 1999.

The Shutterman came to be as a result of my personnal experience with Shutters and consumers. My stepfather owns a shutters business, so after many years working for his company, went to work for other companies as an independant installer. This experience directly lead me to start The Shutterman. You see I started out working for a small family owned business. This background has given me a unique perspective, my customers are my first priority. We strive to make every customer feel as though they are the most important customer we have. It is this can do attitude that has enabled us to maintain such a high level of customer satsifaction. I would challange you to find a Shutter company that has a high level of customer satisfaction. We can back up our claims too!

I have over 25 years in the business. My beginings in the shutter business start when I was in high school or even before that. My stepfather owns a shutters business and I used to go into his shop even before I had a regular job. I really got involved more in high school being an apprentice installer and going on jobs. It was great experience to learn first hand what it takes to go to someones home and sell and installed. The most important thing I found out was that above all you are in someones home (respect it and treat it as well or better than you own home. Be considerate to the home owner and always remember that.

Jeff did my blinds a few years ago (custom blinds for very large windows). His suggestions were spot-​on and have served us well for the last 3 years. It was a really shallow window frame so nobody else even thought the job was possible. Jeff had a great solution to macgyver the installation for us. It’s been 3 years and they still look and work like new!
Last week, I got some shutters done by Jeff and it was another great job. Again, a strangely shaped window where Jeff basically had to rebuild part of the window ledge from scratch. He showed me how the shutters were sticking when he first installed them, then showed me how he did all the adjustments to make them swing perfectly. Premium install for sure! You definitely need someone who knows how to make these adjustments, not just someone who installs direct from the factory.
Just one star off since we had some scheduling delays; Jeff totally offered us a discount to make up for it, so it was handled very professionally. And in the end I paid him the full amount anyway because he did such a great job!
One last note: the prices are very good, especially for the level of service and quality of product.

I just got new cellular shades from Jeff Lee and they are fantastic. They are much nicer than I hoped, and are absolutely gorgeous. Everything went smoothly and I have nothing but good things to say about this business.
I knew in general what I wanted but had worked out the wrong solution. Jeff tactfully suggested other alternatives and he got everything right. I ended up with Graeber shades — much better than my old Smith and Nobles. They are a scrumptious color and look amazing. If you are considering new window treatments, I highly recommend that you talk to Jeff Lee.

DO NOT install shutters without talking to Jeff. he really knows his stuff. We had three other BIG companies and one small one come by, and nobody could figure out how to do what we needed without taking every cent from me. JEFF got it! He installed beautiful WOODEN shutters with 3″ louvers… lets lots of light in… keeps it out when I need it out. He made suggestions to enhance each window, and the costs were very competitive and even reasonable. He was more than happy to return to make some very minor adjustments (we should have known how ourselves). Material came quickly, and was installed perfectly and neatly. I am thrilled with this product and his service… check him out!

I am updating my review-​because I have not been as thrilled with this company our second time round. We got new windows in our house and unfortunately for us– they did not work with our old shutter configuration-​so we needed to replace all of our shutters. We were not as impressed with Jeff as we were the first time around. He seemed disinterested in getting the extra business-​and the response time has not been great. He almost seems bothered by having to help us-​which seems bizarre as we are giving him business a second time around. The quality of the shutters is still fine and we are happy with the look of them. The only thing to note is one of the replaced shutters had a defect in it-​so we had to have it sent back for repair.

We are located in Berkeley and after I got Jeff’s estimate (he personally came and took measurements for some old California Cottage tricky plantation shutter areas and wooden blind windows) I honestly thought it was going to be one of those nightmare contractor situations because so often, well… that’s what they turn out to be!
The shutters/​blinds took about 6 – 8 weeks just as he said they would. He suggested color matches with our new paint. When the installer arrived (Eli and his sister Judith) I winced, thinking they are going to really mess this up. They took all kind of measurements and said, «Jeff did a great job measuring; it’s tricky but let’s see…» Well, I’m a bit of a persnickety crafts person myself and I couldn’t be happier. Not only were all of Jeff’s correspondences with us on the spot punctual but his tricky measurements were perfect and the installer’s job was impeccable.
Thank you Jeff and Eli and Judith for a beautiful job as projected and performed!

The Shutterman is a company that cares about satisfying the customer. Jeff, the owner, oversees the installation from beginning to end. He makes sure that the installation is done with the greatest respect and care for the owners personal property. The Shutterman was the only shutter company that understood our installation needs and carried them out perfectly! We had three shutter companies look at our project and while they all had great sales presentations only the Shutterman (Jeff Lee) was able to sketch up and carry out the work as we wanted. Beautiful shutters painted to match our wainscotting and installed a couple of day’s ahead of schedule. Being in the trades myself I can attest to real professionalism. P. S. His price was a couple of hundred dollars less than the others which didn’t hurt either. If you need shutters consider The Shutterman, you’ll be glad you did.

We are loving the shutters and shade we ordered from Jeff Lee, The Shutterman. Throughout the entire process, he has been easy to work with and very responsive to emails and calls regarding our order. I was a little apprehensive about the amount of time it would take the get the shutters in, as we had zero window coverings on our home. Jeff solved that problem by offering complimentary temporary shades. On installation day, Jeff and Orlando arrived right on time. They estimated the job to take one long day or possibly a day and a half. They worked 9 — 4:30 and got it all done. Everything looks great and I would recommend The Shutterman to anyone seeking window coverings.

This was a pretty painless & great process of getting blinds from Jeff at The Shutterman. He was responsive to calls & inquiries. Brought a ton of samples. Gave me multiple quotes for different options, and was able to turn things around in a fairly short timeframe.
The installation was just as easy. 15 minutes, installed & cleaned up. Can’t complain about that!

Took months to get my shutters in. Then he dropped some guy off to do the work came back showered and shaved. The shutterman has good quality shutters but takes forever and has yet to come back to fix something that was done in December.

After calling several window covering companies to come in to look at a huge job and receiving little, slow or no response, I called Jeff afer I read his Unilocal review from Mike W. I received a prompt response, a clear estimate, and a stellar installation by his worker. Jeff was able to schedule around things that came up for me at the last minute, and was informative about the process and anticipated how the installation would go with incredible accuracy, taking into account some challenging areas that would need a little extra time.
I am impressed with this company, and will continue to use and recommend it to my friends, family and co-​workers. A big thank you to Jeff and his employee.
