Description

Specialties

Locatelli specializes in limited production Estate grown red wines. Currently on our wine list, we have our delicious Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zin/Petite Blend, Malbec, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc and Merlot/Petit Verdot blend among many others. We also have two white wines and a Muscat Canelli dessert wine too! Enjoy these wines inside our quaint tasting room or outside at our picnic area while taking in the views of the Salinas River and historic 215+ year old Mission San Miguel Arcangel. And while you’re here, be sure to pick up a bottle or two of the wine that is produced and bottled for the benefit of Old Mission San Miguel. A portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold goes to ensure this historic treasure is around for generations to come.

We’re located only two miles from Highway 101 at the north end of the Paso Robles appellation.

History

Established in 1996.

Locatelli Vineyards was started in 1996 from a 100 acre piece of raw cattle land on the north end of the Paso Robles Appellation. We selected the land not only for it’s close proximity to Hwy 101 but also for the uniqueness of the land which overlooks the 200+ year Historic Old Mission San Miguel. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were immediately planted on forty acres and later wanting to further diversify the grape varieties, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel were added.

In 2001, Locatelli Winery produced our first wines: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In fact, our Merlot was harvested on September 11, 2001. I remember hearing about the tragedy on the radio and then turning on the TV that we had in the office area at that time and running back and forth to crush grapes and then running to the TV and then back to crush more grapes.

Today we produce over a dozen estate wines including red, white and dessert.

Meet the Business Owner

Louie G.

Business Owner

The winery received it’s name from Louie’s (owner/winemaker) Great Grandfather Cesare Locatelli who immigrated from Switzerland around 1889 to the central valley of California. Cesare was influential to Louie in becoming a winemaker, as Cesare had been a winemaker himself. Although Louie never knew his Great Grandfather, he felt it was in his blood and began studying wine techniques from a young age. Wanting to grow grapes and make wine commercially, Louie relocated his wife and young family from Visalia to the Paso Robles Wine Appellation to continue the family legacy. Come taste the experience of tradition.
